  1. As much as I want the Sioux to win and as much as I know they should, it scares me all it takes is one stupid pass getting intercepted or a premature whistle by a ref that can take a game from the better team. I love college hockey as much as anyone but one bad game and you're watching some pretender take home whats yours. GRRRRRRR Good thing we won't let it happen this year!
  2. Didn't this guy committ on like March 12 and now on the 23rd there is an article about it, why did it take so long for this to come out?
  3. By no means do I think Briggs deserved it but in a post game interview I heard on the radio he didn't think he deserved it and asked if his own family was doing the voting.
  4. I know baseballs supposed to be the superstitous sport but I hear you on this one, Saturday night was the first night that the Sioux lost when I wore my lucky shirt. Although I did put it on after we were down. Anyway I get real bent when the Sioux lose and I do believe in hexes. Somehow betting against my team works out most of the time. ND vs Wisconsin in redemption
  5. Without the vulgar you're right on and every Minnesota fan knows it too. The only team that gets more favoritism is Michigan but Minnesota's not far behind now that they got the final 5 every year.
  6. jloos stated is pretty good here. Consistency is the key word, and for a program of two rural towns with 10000 people max and no cheap recruiting scams thats amazing.
  7. I'm more of a RR fan than Central, only because I never attended there, but if you want to get down on the fact that the Lamoureaux's live in the south end of town and attend Central, go back to when I went to RR and the Roughriders probobly wouldn't have won state in 96' and 97' without Paul Murphy and Mark Bry. Again, not trying to bash Fargo hockey, but Fargo is dominate in so many other sports that I don't think they'll be in the ranks of RR or Central and Grafton. Maybe I'll be proved wrong in the next few years but year after year they haven't made it to the state tourny as much as Grafton. Fargo schools are almost like a AA school and should compete with them every year. In the past ten years or whatever they might have as many state champions but have only made the tournament a handfull of times, RR, Central, and Grafton PR are always there.
  8. Got it
  9. Fanfromafar, GF Central has won state around 26-27 times, GF Red River 11-13 times, Grafton/Grafton-PR 4-5 times, and I think it's Fargo North 4 times, and South is 2-3 times. I'm not sure about the exact times because I don't have one of the tournament programs in front of me, but I do know the Grafton teams have taken home the title more than any one Fargo team. Besides the one Minot title (the only west title), I think those are the only teams to ever win state. I know Red River and Central tied one year, but I'm not positive on the exact numbers. Central did win the first 10 state tournys, and I'm not sure if GF St. James was a co-champ sometime back then. Back to MN vs ND, two years ago when Central won it with Casey Moreland, Central had only lost one game the whole season and it was to Red River where half of the players, including and more importantly Moreland, were ejected. Warroad, who won state in A that year only lost two games the whole year, one to GF Central 2-1. It is only one example where ND's best played MN's best and by the score it could've gone either way. It does show though that when ND has dominate teams they can beat the best MN teams. Now if Central were to have played the AA champ that year who knows, but if Moreland was playing the way he did in the EDC regional through state I'd have to put my money on Central no matter which MN team they were playing. Moreland was just playing to good at the end of the season to bet against.
  10. I didn't know about the baseball programs and it's nice to hear that GF doesn't have those politics anymore. It never happen to me firsthand (cuz I sucked) but a few people I know it did. In ND person for person I think Grafton PR (my opinion) has the best talent. For such a small town they produce good teams every year. I know Warroad has used Marvin Windows to "recruit" parents for their hockey program, has Roseau ever used the Arctic Cat factory in the same way or have they all been true Roseau products? I don't want to sound like Warroad has just recruited all their talent in either, I know they have always had a great program but I know in cases like Wyatt Smith, it has happened.
  11. North Dakota hockey kinda only consists of the east with exception to 1991 or 93(Minot, Bismark final). Even in the east its usually narrowed to Red River, Central, and Grafton-PR. One Fargo team each year usually makes it to fill the 4th spot but never one dominant team from Fargo. I think the fact that Fargo has better football, basketball, and baseball programs it spreads out their athletic talent more. I don't even think GF high schools have a varsity baseball program yet, they didn't when I was there, they only had Babe Ruth league. Central has competed more in basketball and football than Red River in the past ten to fifteen years. Besides hockey, Red River has tennis. In GF alot of kids don't get the publicity in other sports like they do in hockey, and the varsity hockey players in GF are already picked out after squirts and you pretty much don't have a chance at making the team unless your parents know someone. I only say this because one of my best friends didn't try in RR tryouts and made it and another friend of ours busted his ass didn't make it. The guy who made it asked why he made it and not the other, "We know your better than that". Because of those politics he doesn't play hockey anymore.
  12. I have no proof that Tanabe was born in GF but I played hockey with him in elementary. From what I've been told he wanted to play for the Gophers so he moved to White Bear Lake. If thats true I don't know what happened and why he went to Wisconsin, the Gophs must not have liked him.
