  1. He does seem to be a players coach.  With how this whole portal thing is going that is a plus to be able to recruit and be liked.  I look at NDSU and i think Richman is going to have a hard time adjusting to this new way.   Look for UND to surpass NDSU in the future.   I wouldn't mind if Sather ran a couple plays once in awhile,  but I guess if you recruit the right athletes who needs plays!

I’d say from my sense, NDSU fans are getting tired of Richman. They’ve had a lot of success though under him and are almost always playing their best ball at the end of the year. This year seems like an outlier, for now.

They call him the Bubba of Bison Basketball.

A redshirt freshman that has played a total 25 minutes of college bb will be the 2nd best shooter at UND next year...that might be bit more absurd.

Eli King came in last year with limited minutes and look how he played at the end of the season.  I think kids like Hurlburt that are questionable Power 5 players are going to go to schools like UND prove they can play get some minutes and transfer out.

  4. Great hire ! I have a feeling this wasn't Mals hire.  I think she is on a tight lease now and better do the things the university feels is best.  I don't see her happy hiring another coach with a more decorated career then hers and just got done beating her team.

Now I hope to see a few more girls in portal and start fresh !  This hire could be our future coach ?

You can't take 13 guys out of the portal every year- you still need to have guys that you build up and develop.

Well im hoping Sather can keep a few each year and not need 13 each year. Only the best will leave

Wouldn't give up on Erikson... never know with big guys... he does have the ability to stretch the floor... while he may never be an all league player, he might be able to carve out a role in the future... and I was very down on this kid coming out of high school. Reports are that he has had a good freshman year. Not sure if he's ready next year, but I don't think he will be a complete dud.

But that is my point.  Let him go to UMary for two years. Pick him up on the last two years.  If he doesnt work out it was UMary's problem.  There is not need to take risks on projects.  Look what Tyree and Bruns did.  Took a chance on them and they both bolted.  It has to work both ways.

I would still go after talented high school kids. Who cares if you get 2 productive years out of BJ Omot or some random junior college kid. I agree with your other points though

Good Point.  Talented like BJ not projects that will take a few years to develop.  Let them go to D2 or JUCO prove their worth and transfer out.  Hate the way this is going but you either adapt or lose out.

What are you guys paying for

Wont get UND hockey but I use You Tube TV  ($72) and T Mobile Wireless ($50).  T Mobile internet is super fast getting 300+ download.

  9. I dont see us offering many high schools seniors in the future.  What is the point if they are good they leave and if they are not good they take up a scholarship.  Look in the portal and build a new team each year!    My opinion we wasted our scholarships on the two Bismarck kids.   They wont contribute the next two years give it to someone that competes now.   I do like Kraft and hope a local kid will stick around and eventually crack the rotation.

Did you watch any of the games when he was our starting PG? He’s just not a PG unfortunately.

We need an actual PG out of the portal.

Yes I watched every game this year. I saw Eli improve significantly from the first game to the last.  He has great vision and play making ability. His defense is top notch and probably one of the best rebounding guards in the summit.  If we can't find a top notch pg in the portal we will be just fine with Eli! This basically was his freshman year. Next year we will see a whole other level for him.

Great news. He will for sure be the focal point of the offense. Now we need a PG, a 3 and a 5. Plenty to choose from in the portal but gotta choose the right ones and them to choose us too!

Don't you think Eli is our PG?  I was so impressed with him this year. He just got better as the year went on. Plus his 3 point shooting really improved.

Would it be any different if another coach was here now?  Like, if we beat Omaha would BJ and Nacho be staying?

I guess we will see how many other players leave summit league teams. Sather just has a history of losing players pretty regularly.   Forget freshman go after the best D2 players and Juco. I guess this our reality now.

So far I see on the portal sites  that Cottingham and Davis are in the transfer portal . I was guessing this for Cottingham when she didn’t dress for summit tournament. Davis I also thought was possibility her level of play had declined and her shooting was not there this year. These two openings are necessary for coming year if Mallory is going to improve this team immediately. We need to see proven talent brought in ready to play.

I see that Walker Demers is in the portal I don’t know if she would be what we’re looking for but she does fit in with experience and has ability to play four or five position and be able to rebound. Her ability to score in these positions has struggled with but she has two years of eligibility left.

Can I ask where you are seeing these players enter portal at?   Thanks for the updates!

Aaron Kallhoff was the other finalist.  Sac State hired him this year as the HC.  They just went 6-25 after going 25-8 the year before. Not sure if there was a mass exodus but certainly not a good look.

He might have had a bad first year but he was ranked top 5 assistant coaches and mentored WNBA players.   Mal had never coached and came off a 2 win season.   I'd have taken a chance on a outside person.

Both of these hires took for ever last year and I believe this set plate f or the year we had. I was looking back at last year’s comments Sw Sioux said there was nothing to worry about and was confident we would be top of the conference. Many on here thought Bledsoe was a good hire and now he was let go right after the season. I thought he might give us avenue back into recruiting in the Twin Cities. Then Wimberley was hired  in August and here again is being let go very short time and I don’t what her responsibilities were for the team.  The bottom line they serve at pleasure of  Mallory but I am not sure if replacing them is going to make as big a change people are looking for. The offense and defense  we play still has to come from Mallory.

I think possibility for new coach for the program is Chole Lamb from University of Mary and played on South Dakota women’s team two years ago. She was very good player and was very intelligent in her play there. Second she played under Dawn Plitzuweit who was known for her team’s playing good team defense something she could bring to this team since she played most of her college career under that system. We need fresh start on teaching new system here because what ever we have been doing is not working.

Malory needs to find coaches that can help her to getting to better offense and defense in place for next year or her tenure I feel will be over here. I have to believe this is her last chance here that she has to build this program to top Summit team and the door is closing fast.

I like that idea of chole lamb. Would definitely bring a winning mentality to the program.
