  1. I was wondering if anyone seen if new recruits are in for UND Women's basketball I think i have saw number of them in pictures but one i have not seen is Beal which is one of the four star recruits. They still haven't updated their roster for the new recruits for this season and i see men's basketball has updated their roster with new recruits.

  2. I watched some of this and my take this is based on past history and top teams hard to argue with because they are top teams in Big Sky and MIssouri Valley and our history in Missouri Valley has been very inconsistent last two years. Second last year we lost some very close games that we should have won but didn't for number of reasons. We have very tough schedule this year again but we do get to play number of teams we lost too this year at home which i believe will be a big difference.  I don't think were number 37 team but only way to prove that is just play the games. My guess were around number 25 to number 15 team as we stand now. The big difference  between us and alot of the teams in top 10 is we are just not as deep with players ready to step up across whole team as we should be and i see improvement but its going to take time to build the program to that level. That said i believe if we play up to our potential we can beat these top 10 teams but can we do it through whole season  when we need to go next level of players across the team. Thats has been difference i believe but that may be changing with total shakeup in college sports and transfer rules we may see where the NDSU's and SDSU's players will be poached by FBS in the coming years.

  3. I am sure others have been there this summer i did see picture of some other recruits. I just think the UND athletic department needs to work on their promotional of their sports to the public. Like release of their schedules, rosters, and getting promotional pieces out on their players and coaches to the public to keep their fans interested and updated. I see this with other schools.  To keep interest and build a following you need a presence in your community and social media involved with the school that is the way it works today. I only see this with the hockey team but it needs to happen with other sports at UND and my guess reason we see it with hockey that is Ralph Englestad Arena people are involved for hockey but we need athletic department needs to start stepping up promoting other UND sports.  This will not only help for fans but also for the various sports in recruiting and retention of players in the future. That is my opinion and i may be wrong but then why we do it for hockey and not the other sports.

  4. I was looking at the women's site has 2022-2023 roster but has none of the signees listed wondering why that is now shouldn't they be enrolled for this fall by now so they can be listed.  I sure hope we haven't had any loss of signees over the summer. I still think this could be year where we step forward in the conference and become a factor to be one of the top 3 teams in the conference. If we could have year like that we could see us playing after the conference tournament. This is will how we rebuild this program to become a factor in the Summit League.

  5. If all these changes happen pretty much ends either the pac 12 or the mountain west conference because whats left of Pac 12 and Mountain West would make for one stable conference that could be market to the west coast for broadcasting rights. The Big Power conferences are soon going to leave the NCAA make their deal on broadcasting for big name sports in football, basketball, and baseball. The only chance for the Summit , Big Sky and Missouri Valley would be merger to move up in football to FBS and hopefully upgrade enough in the other sports that they may be considered to be apart of big power conferences when they make there deal to leave the NCAA. I think NCAA could become NAIA college organization for all small midmajor conferences and Division II and Division III. This looks like beginning of the end of how we know division I sports in the US and it all being basically under one organization for all levels of schools. If i am missing something i would like to see how others see this plays out.

  6. Any news how summer practices are going and if any of the newcomers are making impression to coaches or team as whole. Also is everyone there and if all are healthy now for the coming season. My hope this is productive off season because i really believe if everyone lives up to their billing we could become one of top three in the conference this coming year. Jackrabbits are going to be preseason favorite and probably will win the conference if they stay healthy. I really believe we can surpass South Dakota this year and next few years be playing for conference championship if this team develops and stays together.

  7. I agree none those schools want to travel that much especially to norther Midwest. If schools up here are wanting to move up FBS football it will need to be creation of new conference of teams from the area. That would be NDSU, UND, SDSU, USD, Northern Iowa, Montana State, Montana, Northern Colorado, Then possiblility of IDaho's, Weber, Southern Illinois, Missouri State,  and i am probably missing someone but i think this is how schools now move up to FBS football. I think it will take initiative of schools from Summit and Big Sky to get this done.

  8. I thought we would have heard who they have picked up for the coming season. I was looking at transfer portal sight large number of large forward and center girls have been picked up by number of schools so i am curious who we picked up. The site looks like musical chairs with number of teams loosing players and picking up players.

  9. Sicatoka i guess i don't understand eliminating mandatory number M/W sports but be compliant with title IX how you do that and still be compliant. I am assuming then we would be down to maybe three mens sports here at UND and still have half a dozen women's sports or maybe more to be compliant with title IX.  I thought and I may be wrong its just not scholarship equality with title IX but isn't there component of also on total financial support for the sports per scholarship player. I thought i read that some where to have equality for men and women's programs. I may be all wrong here on what i was thinking and saying here so don't blast me but educate on what your thinking.

My thoughts have been is that power 5 schools and certain number of g 5 schools are trying to align  themselves up separately going back 50 to 60 years ago when they were division I schools and conferences like  Summit, Missouri Valley, and Big Sky were what used to be what Division II schools. The reason is they could sign some big tv contracts for televising there sports and wouldn't have to split so many ways and keep overhead down to run much smaller tighter organization than it is today.  Also would be easier for them support title IX because lesser number of schools sharing in the profits. Also the recent popularity of Women's basketball may in itself help pay for title IX if was limited to top tier of schools.

  10. The question then becomes what are the advantages of being in division I sports for school in small midmajor  programs like UND going into the future. We will be playing for conference championship only and them maybe not if we have like South Dakota State with top coach and high amount of success because of his ablility to recruit and retain players. I don't want to be pessimistic but goal before was recruit raw talent and coach them up to where you would have one year or two window to go to dance and prove yourself. Now you get talent ready for that run and big schools just come in and recruit that talent away. The division II schools will be playing for at least some national trophy and will have post season. The only sport this will happen in division I will be mens football with FCS level where there are two levels for that sport. I maybe should qualify this to major team sports this will be happening the most with transferring of players from small midmajors to large schools. These changes were sold as giving players freedom of movement but now it is being exploited by big schools to help increase revenue and name recognition. Then you add in now the paying of players and sports betting on college games we are heading for some major scandal in the near future.

  11. This is going to be nice because we will be able to rotate many different lineups and be able to play who is hot at the time. This also should be that we will not playing players huge minutes and wearing them down and having bunch of injuries. Also we will be going from very small team on the floor to where we can be quite big. I suspect some of the older players on the team will see less playing time this coming year but i also think we should have much improved line-up. I am excited for this coming year and see hoe all these players develop and play important roles for UND Basketball.

  12. I was just looking at portal and I see Evan Zars  center is also going to Grand Canyon. Maybe Grand Canyon is loading up with talent to make a run next year in women's basketball. Like i say the Summit conference has had alot of experienced upper tier players transfer out this year and i wonder if it isn't these players want to improve their chances of playing in NCAA tournament or the WNIT tournament. Nearly all the teams but South Dakota State have lost one or two of their top players off their teams this year and question becomes are we becoming conference farm system for bigger conferences.

  13. I am sad to see Olivia Lane leave  i had hopes she might return with her sister going to  play in Crookston.  I thought she always played hard and gave full effort for us and i am sure she will be missed. I am surprised to where she is going but she must have her reasons and i wish her the best. I guess after the last couple of years maybe people just need to have a change with covid and now this past winter that has never ended.

This then brings us to the question is how are they going to replace her and will it be another transfer or high school grad. We are definitely goiing to need another big girl for the coming season. We played last year with not alot of depth for height and we lost Leet to graduation and now loosing Olivia we have lost all our experience at the front line. This is not to mention the loss of Van Loo who also transferred this off season. I have to beieve this has got to be priority now and i sure would like to see how they are going to address.

  14. I see Carlee Sieben is now in the transfer portal is this result of yearend performance appraisal for player by coaches and better for her move on to where she would get more playing time. I hate to see her go one of few North Dakota players left on this team. We will only have Manson left from North Dakota. I sure would have liked if we could have recruited one the North Dakota girls that went elsewhere.

Has anyone heard what is their plan on replacing Olivia Lane for the coming year. They are going to need big girl that has experience playing if they are going to compete this coming year in the Summit Conference. With all the shake up in Summit this off season they have good chance to be 2 or 3 team in the conference and this would put them in position to for post season play. As it stands now i would say if they can replace O. Lane they would be competing with WIU and USD for these top positions in the conference and that is giving SDSU odds on favorite to be number one team in the conference. They are already getting predictions they could be 4 or 5 seed in next years NCAA tournament. It would be nice for us to be able to get WNIT bid this next year if this team can come together with what's returning and new recruits coming in.

  15. I see ORU has two more girls in transfer portal the Moore girls which now  brings them with 9 transfers since the end of the season and leaves them with 5 players on the roster. This is going to be total rebuild.  This is not how to build up your conference with loss of talent that has transferred since the end of the season. I see Ezeudu is going to the Florida Gulf Coast University power in the Asun conference and has been to NCAA tournament frequently. I wonder if number of the top talent transferring has to do with the dominance the South Dakota Schools have had in Summit where they are moving on to where they have better chance to play in the NCAA tournament. The new commissioner will need to look into this i believe because its not healthy for the conference.

  16. I did little research on men's basketball Denver, Omaha, and South Dakota have updated rosters but all the rest have not and on the Women's side its even split with Denver, KC, Omaha, ORU, and South Dakota have updated rosters on their websites. I wish they all had updated rosters so we wouldn't have to look elsewhere if they have signed players or not for their team next year. It will be interesting to see how we compare as the year goes along on how long it takes us to post updated information.

  17. They need another big front line person for next year also as much as they need point guard. They need that big man who can create his shot inside on one on one basis and score from that 75% of the time. If they don't get that guard play and other offensive talent can be limited and you're forced to shoot from outside that will be contested most of the time or pretty much shut off even for guard that can drive because there will always be help on the inside to prevent that. This past year was prime example of that when we were limited two big men on the front court to finish the season. yes i believe with talent coming and talent getting healthy they could reach as high as 3 or 4 in conference for the tournament. Most of the Summit teams have been hit hard with Transfers this off season with exception of SDSU but with right year we could see where we could qualify for NIT or CBI post season tournaments. This is only going to be possible if he can get this team put together have very good offseason practices to build team chemistry. I am always optimistic in the off season so i may be way off on reality but in basketball one or two players can turn around whole team that's what i am hoping for the coming season.

  18. I can see that but my hunch will be Grant as the point guard for the coming year. We got to see flashes that he can create his own shot and he can shoot and score. He has ability to dish off but if he shows he can score he becomes more of complete package. Also his defense improved this past season and if this improves again as much as last year he could become very good point guard in the Summit Conference.

  19. South Dakota lost Watson and Krull to the portal and this will mean they will have whole new starting 5 come next season plus whole new coaching staff. The only two programs that are remaining pretty much in tack are SDSU and WIU and up till this past week we would have been considered with these teams. The loss of Lane now puts into question where we stand on front line for the coming season. We have recruited some talent to help on front line with the girl from Wisconsin (Nakiya Hurst) looks to be force inside from recruitment videos. The question they will have scholarship now to pursue another player and wonder if go  for transfer or another high school graduate. I wouldn't be surprised if they used on high school talent like Demers from Grafton. They also have McCarthy and Vanderwal freshman with Vanderwal redshirting and McCarthy playing limited minutes. This has to be big concern for Bernhard coming into this next season without any proven talent on front line now and not alot of depth at that area

It still surprises me that Lane left when she was going to be front line person to go to for this coming season. Also this team will have very good chance to play in post season next year. The final issue will be with so many transfers what type of offers she will get and i wouldn't be surprised she may have drop down to division II and if she will get full ride for the coming year. I might be wrong on this but i have my doubts especially if you want to place close to family and etc.

This off year is going to be critical developing this team by adding new players and getting them to mesh together and find their team roles for this coming year. I believe this team could establish itself behind SDSU in the Summit Conference and build foundation to where it can become competitor to them in coming years after that if they can retain and continue to add talent to this team. But key to that is retaining their talent and building program to where recruiting becomes a choice of talent wanting to play here from our recruiting area.

  20. I really doubt if they will do anything especially to big time large schools look at North Carolina on their scandal few years ago nothing was done there but Minnesota they threw the book at them. This is about the money and if they come to hard down on these big university they are afraid they will just leave the NCAA and do their own deals cutting out the NCAA. TV wants these schools competing and playing on television and money talks its been like this for years. Look back at history number of big schools got a way  with murder on different violations even going back to UCLA and John Wooden so why would anything change now.

  21. I thought i would look up our transfer since Sather has been see what has happened to them. Shockey left UND for Quincy University a division II school and there he mostly started and averaged 10 pts. per game; Tyree Ihenacho went to James Madison was hurt at beginning of the year but he was starting at the end year and he ended up starting 14 games and scoring 3.7 points per game; Sebian Sims went to Northern Kentucky played in seven games and started in 2 games but played total of 48 minutes for the season and averaged 1.6 points; Filip Rebraca went to Iowa and started and played in all their games and average 5.78 points and rebounded 5.6 per game; Aanen Moody went to Souther Utah University in 35 games and started 7 games and averaged 19 minutes a game with 6.5 points per game. He was 3 point specialist for the team; Urbonacius went to University of Mary a division II school where he played in all games and started all games with 10.3 average; Dean Sean Eikens went to University of New Orleans where he played in 14 games and started 7 games and averaged 5.9 points but missed games to do injury; Carlos Ramsey Jr. went to Highland community College a two year college where he played in 25 games and started 24 games and averaged 17.4 minutes. He was name MVP of his team and is being recruited by division I schools; and finally David Atellbauers went to University of Mary and he played 19 games and started 12 games and averaged 8.0 pts per game.

I guess the good thing for these athletes is they are all still playing basketball but with each of them having different levels of success. Sims seems to me his transfer did least for him with limited playing time and team that was not much different to UND i believe in long run, The players that drop down to division ii improved there playing time while still being on scholarship money; Rebraca had best success of the group playing on power 5 team, the rest are playing and filling roll on their teams which may have not been a fit with UND. Finally Ramsey moving back to Jucco was probably right move for him to continue to play basketball.

I guess we will see how this plays out over the next few years but for most part these players move either moved them laterally or they moved down to be able to get playing time.

  22. I have my doubts when power 5 school like LSU is looking for the coach. A new coach will have extreme of setting his roster for next year with all the people in the portal right now and he can still choose high school players he wants to sign. I wouldn't be surprised the next coach has them in sweet sixteen for next year. The top power 5 schools have been winning now for years with one and done players and few transfer players added to the mix. New coaches today don't fear this like in the past.

  23. I was thinking similarly but with loss of Olivia Lane and transfer portal this may have become a larger goal than i thought. Even when you do good job of recruiting and develop players if you can't keep them build on that it becomes very big mountain to climb. Yes i know all other schools are dealing with the same and i believe that is true for 8 of the teams in conference but i don't think it is quite the same for the two South Dakota schools. With Conference tournament in Sioux Falls and both Schools close to the venue and it is there prime recruiting area its perfect fit for recruiting and retaining their recruits. They are close to home for parents to come and see them play at schools and then again for the conference tournament which like playing at home in front partisan crowds. Bernhard appears to have done good job recruiting talent but if that talent leaves early we are in this vicious circle of getting over hill because we never get to the last steps of winning  and dancing to big tournament. We will see how this play itself out over next few years will we become power in the Summit or Bernhard if has some success moves on like the coach at KC.

  24. This really surprises me but i think it has something to do with Erica her sister since she leaving. Erica did give up her senior come early and wasn't offered scholarship this year so i have to believe that may have something to do with this. We will never know the reasons but sure hurts us for next year because she was our only big girl with experience returning next year. I would think we will need to go to the portal and find big girl with experience if we want to this team to compete next year to earn post season spot.

I think the rules need to be changed some on the portal transfer because it is becoming increasing difficult for small mid major schools to develop a team when players are using them as stepping stones or other schools are behind the scenes recruiting your players after you have developed them into quality player. Otherwise small mid majors are going to be nothing more than farm system for the larger schools. I believe then we will see very few four year scholarship players at most universities because the schools will only want players that can produce from day one and if not scholarships will be pulled on nonperforming athletes. Another possibility will be scholarships will become contract and when you sign length and commitment will be contractual agreement with penalties if voided early by either party.
