  1. Man, some of you guys are talking like we LOST today! It's a win and we are 3-1 just two years removed from an absolute train wreck.

There will be ups and downs along the way, but don't forget we are playing a lot of freshman (true and redshirt) and we don't have a lot of overall team depth.

People need to get off the freaking ledge and stop acting like the program is still a mess because I think we are headed in the right direction.

Hey, now. None of this duckies and bunnies talk! ;)

  2. This coming from the worst school in the BSC in both men's and women's sports!

There was a time when I would log in to SiouxSports, see that Bison Dan had posted and I cringed, knowing that there would be something that would irritate me (i.e. a good troll).

Now this same old lame stuff is being trotted out over and over again.  You are really slipping in your troll game, Dan!

  3.

If the answer is that one entity can use a trade nand of another IF the other is using it "in a different industry" then why would the Secretary of State disallow Haakenson from registering the Sundogs and roughriders?

Wild guess here...some entity is already using Sundogs and Roughriders (or something extremely similar) in the same industry.

  4. At first I was all happy because I'd get to vote three times:

    But then I got to:

Dude! I could have been able to vote in every category but one. I am a staff member that teaches a class on the side, an alum, season ticket holder, Champions Club member, AND my student email account is still active.

  5. Idowu (football) is Chemical Engineering, Moser (Volleyball) is in Accounting, Friesz (voted to keep no nickname) is in Health Sciences, and Bahl is in Entrepreneurship/Marketing.  Bunch of liberal arts students......

You have a completely different definition of liberal arts than I do.

  6. My interpretation of Kelley's message: "I let the committee fulfill the task set out for them, but it apparently created backlash. I am willing to override their decision, but not without being shown the committee erred."

Meaning, the people who are upset can plead their case. If the argument is strong enough, disregarding the committee members' decision could be justified.

All of the people who attended the protest today and were interviewed on WDAZ said Kelley's statement showed that he didn't care. If people really are passionate about no nickname, I hope they realize that it takes more work than signing an online petition, posting on social media, and chanting on a sidewalk.

I also think wearing clothes without a certain logo at protests would be helpful for giving the message that a mascot/logo isn't needed, but that is just my opinion.

  7. So you don't really believe newspaper quotes?

Unless you go out and personally speak to them.

I honestly don't. I fully believe that what a person says can be interpreted differently from what was intended (something that often occurs in every day conversation) or is manipulated to fit the intent of the author of the article.
  8. His conversation with the woman from Denver about "abstract" nicknames open to interpretation by each individual and how it resonated with him was hardly taken out of context.

Personally, I only decide I know the viewpoint of a person after I speak with them directly. But that's just me...

I just don't think it's fair to pass on conjecture as fact, especially on a site (among others) where opinions all of a sudden become gospel.

But really, unless you were there in Denver, I don't know how you can be certain anything wasn't taken out of context.

  9. If you want an aviation name, there's a really obvious choice:  Airmen.

But you'd have to alter the spelling a little to be sure that you can get full creative control.  Let's try a few options.

    Airmen.  Nope.

    Ayrmine.  Better, but nope.

    A-ermine.  Hey, that one works!

I gotta give you credit... You are persistent.

I may be in the minority, but I think this Ermine person is funny!  THIS is an example of how to portray a "character" on a message board!

  10. Lest everyone forget, hiring externally at the University of North Dakota is a bit of a process and has a specific protocol.  :)

When a person applies for a position, their application is screened by the HR department.  After the application deadline, a list of applicants that earned the highest points is forwarded from HR to the hiring department.  ALL applicants on the screening list MUST be interviewed.  After interviews have been conducted, the hiring department can decide how to move forward (reduce the list of finalists, hire someone, choose to go deeper in the pool of applicants, etc.).  If the hiring department decides not to hire an applicant, documentation must be provided with exact reasoning behind that decision.  At the point that the hiring department has made their selection, all of the documentation is reviewed by the UND Affirmative Action Office to ensure there has been no bias or unfair treatment to the applicants.  I believe most positions also require a criminal background check.  After all of that, THEN the hiring department can make an offer.

I don't remember the deadline that was posted, but the delay shouldn't be worrisome just yet.

  11. You would think that the FDA would put on labels how much "added" sugar are in foods and how much we should have in our diet, they have that for everything else except sugar and they lump natural and added sugar together when added is bad and natural is good.

I don't have a link, but I did see on the morning news show a few weeks ago that there has been discussion (mainly by health care providers...not FDA) on the need to indicate added sugar on food labels.

  12. is that referring to financial aid (a loan for tuition from the school that needs to be paid back)?  or is that referring to a student-athlete getting scholarship money for summer classes?

because in 2008 I was told I needed to pay for my summer classes myself, so I applied for financial aid and took out a loan.  My situation could have been different?? IDK??

I do know that there are specific stipulations that must be met before the UND athletics office will award summer scholarship money.  Things could have changed since 2008, but I suspect the coursework you pursued didn't fit the criteria.

  13. I agree assimilation has to happen, but is it?  Look at Europe - you have little cities within cities and there is little to no assimilation.  Minneapolis is a good one to look at.  Ever drive by what they call little Somali - looks like a third world country.

I can only speak for what I have seen around GF, but I think the youngest ones are assimilating fairly well (early teenagers and younger).  But I think that is pretty much human nature...change is typically easier for youth.

Depending on where they have come from, it is important to remember that many have experienced a very, very difficult life before arriving in the United States.  The amount of adjustment is beyond what at least I had generally imagined.  I know of families who slept on the floor for many weeks after first getting to GF because they were used to sleeping tents at a refugee camp.  Beds were too soft for them!  There are also people who have never seen a kitchen stove before.  It is my understanding that one of the first things given to families is a TV, so they can become familiar with American life.  Because that is an accurate portrayal...  :silly:

I live near some apartment buildings that house quite a few resettled individuals.  It isn't the threat of crime that scares me...it's seeing them learning how to drive!

  14. That is the first person that came to mind for me. I know goon is a good guy, but he isn't a member of media.

I will let Goon defend himself, but I seem to remember that he has posted about being granted a press pass.

Personally, it's social media contacts that worry me.

Edit: I realized that it could be interpreted that I think Goon has been using social media inappropriately. I just meant social media in general.
