If we assume that certain coaches have been kept around for purely financial reasons, wouldn't it have been even more cost-effective to simply wait until they were going into the final year of their contracts, and then maybe offer a one-year extension? I guess I've just never understood the rationale behind offering multi-year extensions for coaches no other schools are pursuing?
It's a good question. I guess I would say that by offering extensions instead of raises, he kept them around. The coaches may not have been recruited by other schools, but if they had a solid job they may have been less likely to be actively looking for work. This is assuming that Faison had the mindset that once the position was opened, the salary would have to be raised to allow for some quality applicants.
The coaches were performing just well enough that he didn't HAVE to fire them, but were complacent enough that he could keep them on the staff (and thus the back-burner) by offering extensions.

Hindsight is 20/20. Didn't Faison have to use some law about posting internally so many days before it could be posted externally blah blah. Then they interviewed candidates which took time. Better to get things right the first time. Also sounds like Faison has to play within the Athletic Department rules, which has been clear "We don't have much money for coaches so we can only offer them extensions instead of raises (Mussman and Jones). Those things are the smaller day to day things I was talking about that history will easily forget about. "Took too long to fire Jones and Mussman and took to long to hire new coaches." Both of which I believe Faison didn't hire? But did actually fire before contracts were up?
Those are smaller blunders than saying we will stay d2 while our peers move up. Which we all know we will do eventually but we just wanna wait.
History remembers the bigger picture.
I have posted this before, but I believe that Faison offered extensions instead of raises to these two coaches to save money because Bunning had run the Athletics Office into the ground. Plus, he had to address many big fires (debt, landing UND in Big Sky, creating NCHC) before tackling the football and basketball coaching situations. Having those two coaches do "just well enough" probably perpetuated the situation, but it also possibly helped stabilize the rest of the athletic department in the process. Now that the other issues have been resolved and the Bubba era has begun, I have faith that the next area of smoke to be addressed is coming from Jones' office. Well, I hope that is where Faison is aiming the extinguisher next, anyway.

That's not part of the equation on whether SDSU or PSU is the better team.
The fact is SDSU lost to 3 playoff teams, PSU lost to 2 non playoff teams.
If PSU beats UNI in the playoffs, I'll believe they are for real.
Except your original post states you think UND should have been in. That means you consider them playoff-caliber, and skews your argument that PSU lost to weaker teams. Stick with using UNC as your example.

BACKGROUND
"Husky women!" has been chanted by some UND fans for at least 15 years, largely at the SCSU cheer/dance team.Huh. And here I always thought those chants were directed to the guys playing hockey for SCSU.
I do agree with you, though.

I say keep it siouxsports.com since its historical, just like the logos at the REA.
I actually disagree with this. I am most definitely was a supporter of the Sioux name (hence my login name), but by keeping the site Siouxsports.com, you could lose any future fans who are wanting to talk about UND sports but wouldn't think to look for siouxsports.com. Instead, they could be searching for roughriderchat.com or fightinghawktalk.com (or whatever. ) and completely miss out.

I will continue to donate, and I will increase the amount I give to UND when UND increases the amount it gives to me.
(For those that didn't catch that: I am a UND employee)

My mom works in "food service" at UND and they are told the same thing.
I work at UND and over the past 8 years have NEVER been told I can't wear the Sioux logo.

There is nothing wrong with Mollberg, his family physician told me yesterday that he is healthy and ready to go.The irony is that, arguably, the most athletic quarterback on the team sits on the bench. I don't think they're mad at him, he's a terrific young man who hasn't complained a bit. It could be his style is geared more toward a wide open passing game instead of the conservative offense that Bubba wants.
Just a bit of HIPAA violation if a physician is telling people the condition of his patients.
I don't mean to discount your post, but talking about patients is a big no-no! I hope this physician learns to have more discretion in the future...

Quit lumping every Bison fan in to the UND SiouxVolley mode where no credit can be given because of who you are. Ive said numerous times you have a hell of a hockey program. 7 national titles is a heck of an accomplishment. Just as 12 national titles are or just one. A national title is hard to do no matter the sport, or division one plays in. I met a kid a couple years ago and when the person who introduced him said he was on a team that won a national title the kid says sheepishly "but it was D3"
I told him if you win a national title its something to be proud of regardless of the division you play in because you are the best at your level of play. I can never understand people not recognizing an other schools or players accomplishments.
I aaccidentally negative repped this post when I meant to give it a positive one. Sorry about that!

Well I can go back to pretending I don't care about Sioux football. At least hockey season has started. Good luck selling tickets to the Alerus!
Huh. I wouldn't have interpreted that as pretending--seemed like real hate to me.

thanks, I almost had to see myself out.
I am listening to the game, but have been keeping up with this thread just because of your posts.

Hard to hate on the Beavers. Back in college, we smoked them during a late afternoon game. I was at suite 49 giving a few Beaver fans a hard time (jokingly of course), they were actually pretty serious and say, "hey, we just appreciate you guys playing us". Made sense, as this was before they were in the WCHA. Pretty cool fans, and a program that really has a chance to do well in the WCHA. For as tough as they usually play UND, I feel like they always under achieve overall, but I would really like to see them do well.
..... just not this weekend.
A few years ago there were some Beaver fans in our ssection of the Ralph, and they were loudly cheering " Lets go Beavers " and joking around with us. Then the Sioux scored something like 5 goals. They looked at each other and started a "Let's go Sioux" chant. Hilarious!

Exactly...nobody is drunk, UND won the tourny.
Just to clarify: I was being lippy. Have a great night!
-
& Schloss tweets we won on some tie breaker rule - he must be drunk too
Even crazier: Coach Berry himself said that the team was given 3 points for a win and a tie to determine the tournament winner. Bunch of drunks!

It appears they are using UND hockey and its fans as a way to help them negotiate their contract with Directv (or was is Dish?)
They are running ads saying something about UND hockey on ABC call the satellite company and make sure you can still get the games.
I was like "Wait, what?! I've never seen a UND hockey game on ABC in years..."
Hey, whatever it takes...

We might have a friend in common. Saw this on facebook as well.
I remembered the sign being higher quality, but this would certainly be a step up over having no sign at all.
I can confirm that is the original Sack City sign.

Where exactly does the article state that he demanded that salary? Maybe your ire should be directed to the Board for wasting mmoney by offering too much to an interim...
