Correct, and I suppose it's fair to state that a small percent of those state and Federal funds also come via taxes paid by GF residents.  Point I was trying to make is that the city doesn't bat an eye when it comes to paying $50K or more for things like library or downtown vibrancy consultants.......which makes this Washington project that benefits practically every resident in Grand Forks a steal that never should have took so long.

Is the city funding the library consultant?  http://www.grandforksherald.com/news/4425361-step-ahead-grand-forks-library-spending-about-80k-consultant

I may be misreading your comment and/or the article, but I don't think the library consultant is being paid directly via the city coffers.

    Carry on...

Supervalu has much more capacity to sponsor and advertise than Hugo’s, which is still locally owned.

True, but that doesn't mean that Hugo's doesn't have any capacity whatsoever.  Lack of competition can create complacency.

Hopefully Hugo's will use this as motivation to find ways to improve their presence, store conditions, whatever.  There are always areas to grow, in my opinion.  :)

Well at least the Herald finally put their grudge out into the open. At least the bias they have in their articles going forward will be able to be pointed out and expect the majority of the coverage going forward to reflect this negative stance.

Shame on him for taking a stance on buildings that fell into nearly $10 million in disrepair under previous administrations' watch.

Such passion over the demolition of a building that he can't even name correctly:

    Quote

These appear to be two buildings but they bear four names, Corwin, Sayre, Robinson and Larimore.

Bottineau should be closed immediately.  If we could actually get the constitutional amendment to a vote, I'd encourage every voter to visit Dakota College at Bottineau prior to the election.  That would be more than enough to secure its passage.

    Why do you say that?

--Honest question, no trolling or sarcasm.  I can't infer what you are referring to specifically...the size? Condition of the buildings? Enrollment?

  5. Sent in an email to all of UND:

Statement from UND President Mark Kennedy

I acknowledge the anxiety that my pursuit of the role as President of the University of Central Florida (UCF) caused many in the University of North Dakota Community. As one of the largest and best universities in the nation, UCF represented a rare opportunity which I felt compelled to respond to their invitation to pursue. With UCF making a decision to select another candidate, please know that Debbie and I will continue to work hard for the benefit of UND with the passion for its success and love for the state and its people that we have demonstrated since our arrival. I am committed to working with the UND Team to implement our OneUND Strategic Plan to deliver ever more opportunity for our state and students.

  6. I spoke with a UND athlete on Wednesday morning.  She mentioned that they had been told that a decision regarding cuts would be made that day, and that once the press conference had been set, they would be notified via text and would need to report immediately (maybe for a individual meeting...she didn't say).  I would guess that the WIH team had the same directive, but of course had a previously scheduled practice to attend that afternoon.

So, in a way, all of the athletes (and of course coaches) knew that something was going down on Wednesday, but not necessarily the specifics.  Until the leak, anyway.

    My interpretation, anyway.

I'm not paying that money for a regular season game. My ticket to the national championship game was less than 70 bucks, for comparison sakes.

If you have money and are willing to shell it out, I applaud you, but I'd rather keep that for things like... Regionals or Frozen Fours.

The team's record at Frozen Fours I have attended is 0-2, so I decided to stop attending high stakes games.  I don't necessarily believe in jinxing teams, but I don't want to take the chance, either!

  8. I have a theory that a lot of the very slow drivers (on 32nd especially) are Canadians that don't know how to convert kph to mph.

It still drives me crazy, but I am a little less angry when I encounter it, since I myself don't know how to convert mph to kph.  :)

Slight clarification.  He didnt say he hired Mussman.  He said he extended him.

    Carry on. :D

Except the comment was:  Berry was a no-brainer as he has shown he likes to promote assistants (Mussman, Brewster).

I read that as he promoted Mussman to head coach, which is not the same as extending him.

    Not that it really matters.

    Carry on.

The idea of playing football for a school on the upswing and having access to a town celebrating hockey and supporting the school in the off season was WAY appealing to many of the football players we know considering UND and hopefully being considered by UND.

Historically, football recruiting weekends have included attendance at a hockey game when the team is at home. They are usually seated in the section next to mine, so I can see them along with the coaches. I think one of the purposes is to show recruits a slice of college life at UND, along with the athletics side.  It is a great way to answer the age-old question of "what's there to do here?".  Sure, not everyone follows hockey, but seeing a few thousand people having a great time and cheering on fellow athletes is a pretty amazing sight.
