Satellite Move for The Fighting Sioux Sports Network
iceberg replied to cheesemover's topic in Men's Hockey
Thanks Marff for posting! VERY VERY much appreciated the ralph site doesn't have it posted and PSB has mentioned to me he has Sioux fans getting anxious wondering if the satellite was changing. Others wanted to get a system but were waiting to see if they moved. This confirms they haven't -

K means KU band (which is what we use) 17 means the transponder in the sky its just a bunch of techno stuff. As Baron Von raschke would say "This is all you need to know" 12044 V 4880 same satellite (whew) -
CSTV & ESPNU wont have a schedule until September. If you want to see all the home games and a couple football games, get a FTA system. Well worth it

what Satworks is it? The 3618 doesn't have a motor option but the 3688 does. All you would need is a motor. PSB has them. Setup is pretty easy. You aim the dish straight south and tune in your satellite that is straight south and the rest fall into place no extra cabling is needed sicne the motor runs over the same cable as what is already set up -

they're all feeds since they are up from 1/2 hour before game time to right after game is over. I'm using a 30" dish here in MN and G10 comes in really good. Usually a team/broadcast will use the same satellite the whole season. UMD used G11, Wisco used SBS6, Comcast local was on either SBS6 or IA8. The Alaska feed can be weird. Some nights its booming and some nights its a flicker on the screen. After 3 years of doing this, you get use to where the feeds will be Some of the hockey feeds I'll leave stored in the channel list for the next game. -

No other college hockey teams have an extensive FTA schedule as the Sioux but on a motorized, you will see the following WCHA teams -Most of the Wisconsin games on FSN North are on FTA. Satellites vary -The MN away games are usually on FTA. There are some exceptions -All UMD televised away games are on FTA unless they -
Minnesota is the only one with a big TV schedule because of their agreement with FSN (and MSC long ago) St Clown is all home games and thats it Mankato is all home games and that's it UMD is 17 games a year. a mix of home & road Bemidji is all home games and that's it Now last year Charter started doing some "sharing" between the 4 teams above (MN excluded) on cable (since Charter is in the 4 towns above). So when UMD plays at St Cloud (and isnt on local TV) cable had them. The main reason road games aren't carried (and we've been down this road before). The big one is money. If the home team isn't showing the game, then WDAZ has to send a whole crew to the opponents arena. This is the whole production crew and the truck to beam up the signal. That truck costs mucho gas money. They would have to pay for 2 signals (one from the arena to WDAZ and the other from the Ralph to cable companies. The original feed is raw (no graphics). Even if the opponent is doing the game, they still have to pay for the uplink. A few TV crews have a "when you come here, you can use our feed and when we come there, we use yours". When UMD is on the road, most of the time they use the same feed as the home team but use UMD announcers. But again they have to pay for the uplink.

I did a little looking through the old threads and last year (when they moved satellites) the info was posted last week of August and schedule was posted in September http://siouxsports.com/forums/index.php?s=...st&p=113048 -

unknown at this point. May be tomorrow, may be next week, may not be until October. Midco/the Ralph/WDAZ (since they all co-produce it) probably still has to reserve the satellite space for the year. Hopefully they use the same satellite as last year -
I just talked to my uncle who lives in Warroad and he said the tornado was a block from his house Golfball size hail. Some of the hail hit the ground with such force that it went 3 inches into the ground. Now to survey the damage.

biggreyant If they keep the same satellite as last year (IA8 AKA Telstar4) if your location is correct the dish does get aimed pretty much dead south IA6 (93W) is our true south satellite in the western suburbs (the satellite that is exactly south) and IA8 (the Sioux satellite) is 4 degrees off that to the east so it is pretty much dead south -

no problem cheese gave a few of us a scare there -
DAZ only carried I think 3 games during the year. SiouxFan5,...you would need a free to air system to pick up the games. There are dealers in Canada (www.kusat.com) is one that I have used before. They're in Montreal

the price on DirecTv is $12 if you have no other premiums. It goes down as you add premiums correct All home hockey games (and select road games) are on FSSN. A basic fixed dish setup will run you around 200 bucks. A motorized is a little more but you can scan other satellites up there. The dish is 30" and the receiver is designed to pick up the FSSN. Its like the old C-Band 9back yard dish) setups but a smaller dish PSB has them. He posts here (during the season). www.psbsatellite.com He's based in the Twin Cities but ships anywhere in the US

cheese these are from last years (05-06). IA8 (Telstar 4) 11991 V 4880 as pointed out, they were on G3 2 years ago (when we had the sucky reception) I've been checking the ralph site and it hasn't changed yet. When it does, we'll post them -
DaveK is interpreting the rule above as both sides can ice it. How can a team short handed ice the puck??
