Out in Big Sky, MT on vacation. Went into Bozeman yesterday and was wearing my 2016 UND National Championship t-shirt. Had nothing F-N Hawks on it. 4 different people throughout the course of the day basically came up to me and said the new nickname is bad but the logo is worse. "Go Cats" stuff was everywhere in town.

The bobcat logo is pretty blah but so are most logos.  The thing that makes the bobcat logo cool is that it's completely accepted by their fan base and alumni as cool.  We may get there one day with our f'n hawk logo but it seems a long ways away right now

Once I saw "Jim Whitehead" in the article, my interest level and expectations went through the floor (Similar to when I see "bison dan").

Just another elitist grad school professor who knows all and better than everyone else and has ZERO understanding on how athletics positively affect the university in a myriad of ways.  He either ignores those tangible and intangible variables completely or is simply misinformed.

Either way, he stills knows best.  And if you don't have a graduate degree or dare I say, an unpublished thesis , your life is over and you are a waste to society.  He and his elitist colleageus have no time for imbeciles.

He is entitled to his opinion. However, even though he is smarter than everyone else, he is misinformed and/or ignorant regarding college athletics.

Can someone here check the numbers from his link.  I always thought that hockey is a revenue sport.  Those numbers can't be correct

Is Bill Gates allowed to criticize American higher education?

If you're implying that those two are a comparable example to Gates then you aren't credible

I think Gates has an honorary doctorate from Havard

That's a naive way of looking at it. I'd like to see a real board member from Grand Forks again. Fargo has 2, Bismarck has 2, and Hazen, Oakes, and Tioga each have 1. There are also 3 ndsu alums on the board to 1 UND. It makes a difference. Burgum comes across as a furtherance of imperial Cass.

I would like to see him working to help advance the entire state

Pretty sure it doesn't take a college degree to see that there are issues with the SBoHE, NDUS and some of the presidents within it and the relationship of all of them.

LoL,.  Agreed .   It's actually smoother at the sbohe now than in the past 5 to 10 years though

Ed Schafer is the right man at the right time at the right place.

    :silly:

I'm going to agree with you.  I thought at the onset that Shafer wouldn't do a lot just being there temporary and that his salary was to much for just hanging around for a few months but he is doing the hard work that needs to be done and not running away from the tough questioning that is bound to happen with this kind of cutting and slashing.  I can't imagine a new president getting this type of realignment and cutting accomplished so quickly and efficiently.

Today we hear more from UND.

    Interesting article from Port:

    http://www.inforum.com/opinion/columnists/4010818-rob-port-no-tears-should-be-shed-cuts-university-sports

What do NDSU and UND need to do to break even in athletics? Win more games? Is Port's NCAA info correct?

As near as I can tell, Port ignorantly left out champions club and team maker donations.  At both UND and Ndsu hes says that the difference between revenue from tickets and other revenue generated and the total cost of scholarships, coaches etc are made up from the university's general funds which is very much a lie.  Most of it is covered by each school's athletic fundraising club

a)they receive a good portion of funding directly from the school which is required to trim their budget andt.

Last year at yearend, when athletic year budgets are closed out and the university makes up the deficit, unfortunately UND had a much larger deficit for the university's general fund to write a check for to bring it in balance than ndsu.

The universities funding formula will likely see some negative changes next year, and it already wasn't very rewarding to UND compared to other schools.

Please explain how we're getting mistreated by the funding formula.  Not being argumentive but I just want to hear what I'm missing.  We did get a new Med school'

I've been drunk, and I've been happy, but I ain't never had the urge to tip over a car.  Would love to know how that scene went down.

At least tell me that it was pedestrian rage, or they knew the owner.  Or that it had a Quinnipiac bumper sticker, or Minnesota plates, or SOMETHING.  But a random Prius parked on a residential street?  WTF.

I'm waiting for a video via cell phone to emerge where they can positively identify many of those involved.

So, the sale of NC merch should save some jobs, right?  Or at least cover the incentive payout in Brad Berry's contract.

The timing might be very good here.  Maybe there will be a massive selling of Fighting Hawks merchandise and the majority will start wearing it with pride.

Donations, foreign student training contracts. Specific fees to aerospace students for fleet refreshing.

I see, it must cost a bunch to enroll in this program then.
