  1. If a player reallllllly stinks, his own coaches and teammates will hog tie him and turn the soap and fire hoses on. I used to play and coach the sport and there is nothing worse than a teamate that stinks so bad there is mold growing on him! DG
  2. If we are the higher seed over GVS, why were we playing the #1 seed in the region ( Michigan Tech) this past Saturday? DG
  3. It just wasn't 1 bad game, we have had 4 in a row! In checking over the box scores from Maine to present, the Sioux have not had 1 game with 30+ shots on net and have been out shot over half of the games. To come out Saturday and play at 3/4 speed all night against the Gophers is inexcusable. There was absolutely no offensive flow to our game while the Goofs moved the puck as a unit all weekend. Defensively you can count on one hand the number of shots our D blocked, something Sioux hockey used to take pride in. Saturday night our Big 4 had exactly 2 shots on net through 2 periods! The Goofs were extemely well prepared(good coaching), seemed always to be in the right position and skated as a team while we looked very disorganized and more like a bunch of guys playing pick up hockey. The most disturbing thing was that there seemed to be no senior leadership out of our defensive corps of upper classmen. They seemed more interested in trying to knock someones block off than playing good position defense. The offense spent a lot of both nights not hustling on the back check. Maybe Doug Woog is right when he commented that the Sioux don't seem to have the speed or snap of past Sioux teams or maybe they were leg heavy.
  4. Last year, for wallpaper, I just went to the "game photo" site, picked one I liked, Brady Murray cutting accross in front of a BC player, and saved it to my screen saver. It's great! DG
  5. The results from Mankato over the weekend didn't concern me until I read the line score and found out that not only were the Sioux outshot Friday but also Saturday and were kept under 30 shots on goal both nights! That is definately NOT Sioux hockey. Does this concern anyone? It sure as h--l concerns me! DG
  6. It's now official, Spirko is going to be a major headache to the opposition this year. We can now shorten Rastislav to "The Rat" or "Rat" and put that on the back of his jersey. How does this sound for a sports page headline in 2 weeks?"The 'Rat' destroys Gophers! DG
  7. Their nickname is the "Bison's" and the a_ _kicking administered by Schneider was indeed 3 years ago in the last game played in the Old Ralph. DG
  8. Canadian college football teams use CFL rules and field size. Some years ago sone ND juco football teams played Canadian teams. When they played in Canada they used the Candian rules, when the Candadian teams played here they used American rules. DG
  9. During Phil Jackson's tenure at UND it was not uncommon to have 6,000-7,000attend games at the Hyslop. Because we are lucky to get 3,000 to games now doesn't mean they should have planned a facility that only seats 3,500. The Betty should have been built to accomadate at least 5,000-6,000 with all games being played there. I think the chances of UND going D-1 in the future are better than fair and the facility should have been planned with that in mind. To put all conference basketball games in the Ralph severely limits the hockey teams scheduling flexiblity. By the way if they want to create that close environment for bb in the Ralph they need to bring the seating all the way down from the hockey boards to coart side and take the plexiglass out, like they do in NBA/NHL arenas. DG
  10. Lot's of great names left off this list, like Troy Murray, Phil Sykes, Ian Kid, James Patrick etc but by far the best offensive player I saw play in Sioux green and white was Tony Hrkac... his line mate Bob Joyce wasn't too shabby either. DG
  11. As I said on a different thread yesterday, If they hire from within without opening the positon to the outside I believe they are obligated to open the positon within 1 year. Most higher ed positon openings have that obligation. Maybe that doesn't hold true in this case if the salary money doesn't come from state appropriated dollars. If it is true that they have to reopen the position next year that would give RT the luxury of seeing how Hakstol does this season before he entertains outside applications. DG
  12. Just to add a little to my above reply, if the positon must be reopened within 1 year it gives Roger Thomas the luxury of seeing how D Hakstol does this season and react accordingly next spring. DG
  13. In most higher ed position openings the university can hire from within without having to advertise for the minimum 30 days. The flip side to this, however, is that within one year the position has to be reopened and advertised for the required 30 days. I have no idea if any of this applies to the hockey coach position or not because of the funding source. I thought Dean's salary did not come out of state appropriated dollars. If not maybe non of the above holds true, but because it is a state position, I think the rules still apply. DG
  14. Getting back to the Vanek thread, Thomas Vanek has never seen a player he wanted to check. Commodore, on the other hand, never saw a player he wouldn't hit. DG
  15. I just looked up the official NCAA rules and here is what it says: HR 64 6-19, Section 21 C: "Whent the puck is played above the 4' (1.22 M) it shall not be batted by the stick, and when it occurs there shall be a whistle unless: 1) The puck is batted to an oppenent, in which case the play shall continue. When a player bats the puck to an opponent an on ice official shall give the washout signal immediately." No where does it say anything about the opponent controlling the puck. It just says "batted to an opponent" What the heck does that mean? Huge loop holes for an official to interpret through! DG
