  1. Scoring is really the only issue the last two years. In that role we had defects like Gropp and Gerlach, and players not pan out, like Wilkie, the Scandinavians, and (so far) Adams. Yon was clearly not going to be a scorer after Juniors, but that's what he was recruited to do. Hopefully our desperation for scoring doesn't force Pinto to step into a role he's not ready for. Weatherby and Hain can and should make big steps. Mismash needs to be consistent. Our D and goaltending will be solid.
  2. What's funny is he usually starts with an objective observation, and then his train of thought derails once his hatred of Sioux hockey takes over. Meth....not even once.
  3. How does a school with an 80 million endowment justify spending 300 million on athletic upgrades? Sounds like a pipe dream.
  4. Never heard of this college before, but by all means, use college hockey as a way to get your name out there!
  5. You and everyone else in the upper Midwest. The short contract feels like a signal to the Wild that he wants to sign there next.
  6. Short contract allowing the Wild to pay way too much for him in a few years. Well played Brock!
  7. Miami and UNO with only one each. At least Miami got us as an opponent, WMU vs UNO won't draw random eyeballs or many butts in seats. Early start for the Miami game suggests they have a PAC-12 basketball game on CBSSN afterwards. Speaking of which, hopefully some ASU games get on PAC-12 Network.
  8. Article in the Gerald (by someone not named Brad) blames it on Ticketmaster. Drop their greedy asse(t)s.

  10. Another issue with starting to charge so late is subscription fatigue. People are already subscribing to so many services these days; I'm always leery to add another given how under-utilized some of them are in my household. It's also hard to justify subscribing if you don't live in the area. The only articles not about hockey I read are the WaPo ones they have in syndication, which saved me from having to subscribe to that. Guess which of the two I'll probably subscribe to now. Also, will there be some free articles monthly, or 100% paywall? Most are like the former, but with the poor decision-making at Forum, the latter wouldn't surprise me.
  11. I literally followed the observation up with "not sure what can be deduced from it". He's the only journalist I observe wearing his employer's logo so it sticks out to me. That's also the least important part of the discussion. Not sure why that got such a rise out of you. The team's coverage will soon be much less accessible to the public, and that is what matters.
  12. He always wears GF Herald gear when being interviewed, not sure what all can be deduced from that but it's definitely a sign of loyalty. Forum may employ the beat writer but they don't control the feed. I'm not paying more to read about it than to watch the games and highlights.
  13. Not long until he starts tweeting cryptic lead-ins to the articles behind the paywall.
  14. We pulled Rowe's scholarship for less, curious what was different here. Didn't really make sense for him to play one year in the W, especially given their overage player limit.
  15. Mecca has 2 defining characteristics these days: over-commercialized, and dangerously large crowds. Motzko is...half correct given the ill-conceived name change.
  16. Fair enough. That's news to me. Surprised it wasn't mentioned/discussed on here.
  17. Doesn't mean it won't be updated at all. Stopped before the first round of NCAAs.
  18. Word on the street is Forum papers, including the Herald, will be subscription-based access in the near future. Probably why Brad isn't updating his areavoices site anymore.
  19. They look like they went for the 8-bit aesthetics but forgot to pixelate it.

  21. We can only imagine how civil and understanding Duluth's fans would be if a former Sioux had done what Pavelich just did...
  22. There are no rinks in Pullman; Wazzu has to go to Idaho for hockey, and Moscow's rink is a dump. Portland is unfortunately stuck with a WHL team that doesn't care about local facilities. Fewest rinks per capita in the US, and the Winterhawks' practice sheet as well as their secondary venue are... well..... let's just say it's mind boggling Seth Jones wanted his rights traded to Portland. Missoula has a nice rink but the school is in a financial mess after enrollment shrunk drastically over the past decade. The rink was also gutted by a scumbag former owner of the local juniors team. UW, U of O and to a lesser extent Boise State should explore college hockey. EDIT: having lived in two of the places discussed and having friends/family in all of the others, I know a lot about the locations mentioned. I'd love to see hockey grow in the region, and hopefully the rising tide from Seattle's expansion team lifts all the aforementioned ships.
  23. It's definitely a bad home schedule when Tech (absence makes the heart grow fonder) and Denver are the only highlights. Omaha just isn't the same without Blais, Bemidji is too frequent, and no Duluth/MN/WI.
  24. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQAVkB3rLdsiLNtwYyjRhVw This channel has highlight videos of Pinto, JBD and Wolanin. Hopefully Tychonick has a season worthy of a video next year.
  25. We yanked Rowe's offer after he flirted with going to London. Saying we lost him to Wisconsin is misleading.
