What about Phillippe Lamoureux

I've read all of the negative things about bringing in a new goalie at the break, needless to say it's gonna have to happen if we want to win the wcha. There's no way we can keep winning these 6-5, 7-6, type of games eventually we're gonna need a goalie that we can ride. The goalies on this team aren't bad they're just extremely inconsistent.

What do you all think of bringing in Phillippe Lamoureux at the break, he's already signed a letter of intent to come play next year. Granted I would love to see Ziegelman come here, I know he would help the team and i don't think it would hurt the chemistry. Another thing is if he came here, he wouldn't be in Minnesota which would be big. Blais can't keep letting this home grown talent go to the UM.

I think one major problem would be the fact that he is still a Senior in HS. I'm pretty sure it is a requirement to have a diploma before starting college. I believe Phil has signed for the 04-05 season. He still has another year to play in Lincoln. Besides, if Minnesota takes Ziggy mid season and UND takes Phil, where does that leave Lincoln in the goaltending department?

if Ziegelman was so good why didn't CB bring him in at the beginning of the year? also, you've got to be sure the next guy you bring in is going to be your goalie. if you bring someone in now, it'll ruin the confidence of the young goalies we have! also, CIRCUS, change your name, you're cramping my style

I'll make a guess on Lamoureux, without any firsthand info. First of all, Starz makes the point moot by pointing out he isn't eligible.

In the Herald Hakstol had comments about all the signees:

In it he says that Lammy is technically excellent, and is now maturing and growing stronger. The kid is really tiny, so he may need some time to build up his body to handle the rigors of D1 hockey.

I'm sure if UND was interested in Ziegelman they would have been recruiting him already.

The reason UND is not recruiting Ziggy has nothing to do with his abilities. He is a solid goaltender and fine young man. It is simply a matter of numbers and the limited amount of scholarship money Blais has available. UND has a very young team with only three seniors and four juniors (not counting Sofie) and, therefore, signing another goaltender may seem impractical. Also, I doubt Ziggy would be willing to walk on at UND when he is getting serious consideration, and likely scholarship offers, from other reputable schools.

Besides, it would appear that Blais feels that the goaltending situation is set for the next six years. Brandt and Siembida are sophomores, Sedevie will come in next year and Phil the year after.

It is all about numbers.

Phil Lamoreaux is not coming in until 2004. They need a goalie either now or at the beginning of next year to compete for a national championship. This team is not too far away right now, and they are expected to be better next year.

One of the posters indicated that the goalies are not bad, just inconsistent. Other than the 2002 Gophers, tell me a team that has won a national championship with an inconsistent goalie? Also, consider in 1997 that the Sioux were sputtering with Toby until they went with Aaron Schweitzer. Toby was not a bad goalie, but horribly inconsistent. The same could be said of most of the goalies when the Sioux were down in the 90's and last year [Chris Dixon, Andy Kollar].

In St. Cloud, our goaltenders game up 7 goals on 25 shots on Friday night. That is a pretty high percentage to score on breakaways. This weekend was more of the same. Jake Brandt struggled in the USHL, which is why he was traded by Lincoln. Siembeda has obvious talent, but has not shown that he can consistently play to the level of a No. 1.

Its a little ironic that Ziegelmann was never given the credit he deserved because he played in front of a good team. The excuse was that his GAA and save percentage were inflated because he did not face many shots. Now, some persons excuse the low save % and GAA of our current goalies because its tough when the defense is doing such a great job and the goalies are not facing many shots. You can't have it both ways. If that is true, then Ziegelmann must have really been good. I think he's showing that in the USHL this year where he is the No. 1 in Lincoln and continues to have impressive numbers.

As for the comment that he would have been recruited if he was so good, the answer is that he is being recruited. Please also consider that Grant Potulny was not recruited by UND and Danny Irmen had scholarship offers from Minnesota and CC. I realize its tough to get all of the local kids, and UND's record speaks for itself, but it may be a mistake to let Ziegelmann go elsewhere.

I recognize and respect the argument that it may be disruptive to bring in another goalie at the break. I'm sure that the coaches have to weigh that against whether they think the Sioux can go very far this year if they brought in another goalie. Its obviously a tough call. However, they do need to address this for next year's team. I hope that Josh Siembeda steps up and plays like he's capable, but until he does, the Sioux need to find a top goaltender. Whether that is Nate Ziegelmann or someone else, it has to be a major concern.
