Providence right wing Lee Goren named Sher-Wood AHL Player of the Week

SPRINGFIELD, MA ... The American Hockey League announced today that Providence Bruins right wing Lee Goren has been named the Sher-Wood AHL Player of the Week for the period ending Sunday, November 3, 2002. Goren tallied four goals and six assists for 10 points and a plus-7 rating in four games, helping the Bruins to a 3-0-0-1 record and first place in both the North Division and the Eastern Conference.

On Wednesday in Binghamton, Goren scored two goals in a span of 24 seconds and added two assists to spark the Bruins' come-from-behind 6-4 victory over the Senators. He added two more goals and another assist in Friday's 7-3 win over St. John's, and after being held off the scoresheet in Springfield on Saturday, Goren finished the week with three assists in a 7-3 win over the Falcons on Sunday.

In recognition of his achievement, Goren will receive a Sher-Wood leather jacket, presented to him during an on-ice ceremony prior to an upcoming game. In addition, Sher-Wood will donate five travel bags to Pawtucket Youth Hockey in Goren's name.

A native of Winnipeg, the 24-year-old Goren was a third-round draft choice of the Boston Bruins in 1997. After recording just one assist in his first six games this season, Goren has notched six goals and eight assists in his last six outings, and is currently tied for fourth in the AHL with 15 points on the year. A product of the University of North Dakota, Goren led the Fighting Sioux to the 2000 NCAA championship, and was MVP of the Frozen Four tournament, which was held in Providence.
