SiouxperDave
UND gets to open with the defending champs. UND should give them a good game if Scheving is sharp.
Wilbur
Scheving is the man. He's got the stuff to beat Central Missouri State (thats who they play right?) The only concern I really have is who will pitch after him. Sukut has had an alright year, but they'll need a great performance out of him win or lose the first game. legend334
Some interesting things before the games this weekend, Central Miss. is going to start their ace the first game, Steve Sharpe 12-0 91 k's in 83 innings, I guess Central Miss is worried about JJ and his numbers so they want to throw their best first....also in their 9 guys they play their lowest batting avg is .319....mighty impressive, the Bison coach stated that he thought Central Miss hitters were better than the Gophers hitters....big praise but NDSU did play both schools so...Central Miss also has two pitchers who are 8-0....they definitely are a impressive team although they lost to Winona St earlyin the year....who knows who they threw though....wihtout a doubt tough game but hopefully JJ can stay ahead in the count and throw his dirty slider or curve for his out pitch... Hansel
One stat I found interesting, UND is 16-1 when Schieving pitches (in the one loss JJ went 4 innings and gave up 0 runs) and 21-15 when he doesn't
Corella
There are a couple of other interesting things about Central Missouri. The Steve Sharpe kid who is their ace and supposedly starting on Thurs was Iowa's ace as a SO. He will consistently throw in the low 90's. Their 2B and #3 hitter Ellante (sp?) started at Baylor, which has one of the top programs in the country, as a true FR. Joe Guillon transferred there from Nebraska this year, and he played in about 1/2 the games for the Huskers last year. They have very few players who went there straight out of high school, almost all transfering from a D1 school or from a juco. They only have 10 players who have at-bats this year, something that is almost hard to believe. Also, former Jamestown pitcher Jason Schutt, who is now at Des Moines Area Community College and has a pretty good chance at getting drafted this year, signed with CMSU in the early period this year. They have a program that would make a good run in the D1 NCAA tournament. It will not be easy.
tuggnutt
There are a couple of other interesting things about Central Missouri. They only have 10 players who have at-bats this year, something that is almost hard to believe. According to this link: http://www.cmsu.edu/athletic/baseball/04stats/TEAMCUME.HTM they have had 15 different players step to the plate this season. Still, a small number, especially for a DII school. Also, Sharpe looks as though he could be wild, throwing 12 WPs and hitting 7 batters. Patience will definitely be a virtue that the Sioux hitters will need to possess in order to succeed.
