GeauxSioux Posted June 14, 2012 Posted June 14, 2012 Big Sky Commissioner Talks UND Name Change, Struggles At UM Fullerton says the state decision put the conference at ease. “It is a relief for all of us including the president of UND, who I just got off the phone with. He's very excited,” Fullerton said Wednesday. “We had spent the last year kind of assessing what the issues would be with our local Native American people in Montana; in Pocatello, ID; in Flagstaff, AZ; in Sacramento, CA, and we found that they were very concerned,” he said. The vote sends the matter back to the state's Board of Higher Education, which is expected to re-retire the nickname and American Indian head logo. Seven years ago the NCAA deemed it hostile and abusive. It threatened penalties against the athletic teams if the name and logo weren't replaced. Whether you believe there were concerns within the BIg Sky or not, it is good that the election is in the rear view mirror and UND can look forward. July 1st is coming quick, a new chapter for UND with the Big Sky. Quote
fightingsioux4life Posted June 14, 2012 Posted June 14, 2012 But, but, but, but........Rob Port insisted that the Big Sky was "only bluffing" and would never, ever even THINK of kicking us out! Seriously, this is awesome news. I am so looking forward to the first season of football in the Big Sky Conference!!! 1 Quote
