  1. Understandable, I can see where you are coming from. We are also a few short games ago from taking 3 points from UMD though. I think the essential "home ice" is going to be what puts the Gophers over the top.

FINALLY - somebody admitted the obvious to everyone except metropolitan minnesota residents

  2. the ncaa has no control of the gophers sucking the last 3 months :D if they win their series they can hold onto the 13-14 seed, if they lsoe they are done and done :D and they shouldnt care if the seats have been sold!

your right - I guess I'm in a mood today. too many 4a-2p work days (have to go to bed soon) - too many years in metropolitan minnesota and all the damn arrogant goph fans that fail to realize all the advantages that come with an area of 3 million people

    think I'll move

  3. so are you saying even if ther gophers lose to scsu they will end up in the ncaa tourney because they will get special favors :D ? or just referring to the uw situation last year? im pretty sure that pairwise gurus have figured out the gophs losing to scsu would end thier season and they may even need a play in game win. just wondering

    go sioux!!!!!!!!

what I was replying to is it is good to know that NCAA won't care if the host team is not there as they already have sold 70% of the tickets based on the assumtion that they will be and they have their money

  4. what the conspiracy people fail to realize is that there have been over 7000 tickets already sold for this regional so the NCAA already has a good chunk of money for this regional. this will be probably the best drawing regional whether the goophs are in it or not.

really - do you suppose that it may be on the assumtion that the gophs will be there?

Even if that is true - no more will be sold and 1/2 those presales won't show up if the ucci group isn't there

oh - and when was the last time the host team did not particpate and what was the attendance to support that last statement? - just curious

  5. I guess for the Gophers to get a #3 seed they would need two of the top four to lose in the best of three this weekend. Doubtful, but you never know. However unlikely that scenario might be, if it were to actually happen it would be a great advantage for a #1 seeded Sioux team to play a Friday afternoon game against the winner of Thursday night's play-in game. I can understand there might be a sense of jealousy or whatever you want to call it in regards to the Gophers always getting the Friday night game, but I really think that in the Final Five tournament the #1 seed has a greater advantage playing Friday afternoon. Give the winner of the play-in game the shortest amount of rest possible.

ya - who cares about the winner of Thursday's game - well this year anyway

let 'em play on 16 hours rest - they deserve it by not being from metropolitan minnesota and not finishing in the top three

  6. While the businesses are closed, the skyway system is open. We have stayed at the St. Paul Hilton Garden Inn and used the skyway just last year for the games. The skyway is open and usable. There were many people using the skyway system.

ya know - your right about that - I think the only trouble is getting in and/or out - but if your in your OK

  7. The selection was made based on a mathematical formula that had been made public before the season even started. This is not basketball, there is no room full of guys picking who gets to go, THERE IS NO CONSPIRACY. The reason it was controversial is because the system which everyone had been aware of all season long had a team with a losing record ranked 13th.

The NCAA has absolutely no control over who goes to the tournament at this point. I don't understand what is so hard to grasp about that.

so - it was controversial? I never mentioned the word conspiracy and I grasped it just fine thank you

anyway - we'll see what shakes out after AA gets womped this weekend

  8. there have been many many threads and posts on this issue. oh well. it makes a difference because the top seed should usually get the afternoon game to get more rest for saturday title game rewarding you for beig the top seed but if the gophers make it to the final 5. then if they happen to win the play in game that thursday and all other seeds win like they are suppose to then the sioux and gophers would play friday night to ensure sold out arena blah blah blah, its a money thing.

actually - the #1 seed is supposed to play the Friday night game - but that can be changed by the "minny rule" and (if seeded 2 or 3) they get to bump the #1 seed to the afternoon game. If not seeded 2 or 3 - the minny rule does not matter as they would play Friday night anyway as either #1 or playing #1.

  9. Yes. You can either walk outside, or leave your coat in the hotel and use the skyway.

St. Paul Skyway system pretty much closes after 7p and weekends though. But, it looks like the weather will be very nice here in tropical metropolitan minnesota - may hit 50 on St. Patty's Day

  10. uw was a 12 or 13 i believe in pairwise. they were legit based on the system like it or not. its easy, if the gophers win their wcha best of 3 they could hold on , if they lose they are done

you guys keep saying that about Sconny last year - but it was a very controversial sellection - you cannot deny that - right?

  11. Disagree. Was not that impressed with DU and frankly don't understand the love affair with them. Throw Bozak in there and I'll still have the same opinion. I was 100 times more impressed with CC when I saw them than I was with DU. I said last week DU wasn't going to beat CC and no one believed me. Well, look at that, I was right. So I negate any argument that says there's only 2 teams in the WCHA worth anything. Just my opinion.

I agree with you and was dissapointed that CC did not win - I thought it would be hands down even though it was on DU's ice.

CC is - in my opinion - the most dangerous team not to win the CUP and will make their presence in the Final 5

but then again - it all depends on what color the ucci group (host team by all accounts) perms are this year

  12. That rule pisses me off. I hope SCSU put the Goofs to bed for the season this weekend so we don't have to suffer from that stupid rule.

they sure could - it probably depends on what color perms the gophs decide to get this year

  13. 7 minimum:

Michigan State, Illinois, Purude...all locks, duh

Ohio State locked up a bid last night

    There's 4

Now you have to say 3 that are in right now are: Minnesota, Michigan, Penn State

Minnesota: Beat NU on Thursday and move them up to lock status. No doubt in my mind.

Michigan: Beat Iowa and they'll move to lock status

Penn State: I think PSU needs to beat Indiana, and then Purdue.

Out and don't talk about them unless they win 2 or 3 games in the BTT: Northwestern

    Golfing: Iowa and Indiana

See the problem is, it's not based on bids by conference. If 11 Big 10 teams were legitimate tourney teams, they'd pick 11. Obviously that would never happen, but its based on each team, not confernece affiliation.

You have to realize that the bubble teams have been getting pumped lately, whereas the Big 10 has a super high SOS and the highest conference RPI (actually might be 2nd now after the Duke/UNC game)

I think 7 is a VERY SAFE number. I think 2 of those 3 teams that are in "right now" will actually be in come tourney time, so 6 is feasible as well. If any of those teams lose in the first round, they are out.

    EDIT:

MSU advances to the Elite 8, Maybe F4. Healthy and very talented

Purdue also wins a game or two, no doubt in my mind. Hummel should be healthy and ready to play. They are a solid team and will beat up on a 10 or 11 seed.

Illinois will also be seeded highly and beat up on a poor opponent. They play great D, but I don't see them as a threat to advance real far.

Ohio State...one and done, I think they suck

Minnesota....all depends on the matchup, but I think we win one, maybe 2 games at most.

Michigan...wild card, I could see them making a deep run. they've beaten some top teams, and lost to some terrible ones. so streaky.

    PSU....sucks

I'd say 5 teams from the Big 10 win their first game.

obviously you have mistaken me and others here as someone who gives a sh*t about the gophs - let alone your hyped up bb team

oh btw - nice call by the coach - calling time out 1/4 second before the tying shot was made with 5 seconds left - too bad

  14. :whistling: I used the same guy from the King of Diamonds radio ads who claimed that the, ahem, "club," is only 3 minutes from the Xcel Energy Center. Actually, I timed the drive to downtown St Paul last night from 35E and 36 and it took me 4 minutes. Since breakfast is at 11 am on a Saturday, I'm not expecting too much trouble traffic-wise on the 21st.

sounds good - the "club" eh - I like it

  15. Exactly.

I knew and said they would be in - weeks ago - and I stand by that even if they are lucky enough to get by St. Cloud in 3 games next weekend and then lose the following Thursday night. Obvious reasons of course.

But - hey - what fun is it to have a team host two tourneys and not be in either one of them.

  16. Don't really care too much about the Final Five most years; especially when the Sioux Pairwise is low enough to lock them into the NCAAs...

Don't get me wrong; I enjoy the games and always go when the Sioux are there, but the last time UND and Minny met in the Final 5 Championship the Minny fans were especially obnoxious...They did beat the Sioux that night but the short-bus Gofer fans behind me apparently thought they just won a trip to the Frozen Four...I congratulated them on their team's on the big win but let them think they had just punched their ticket to the finals...

I sure wish those boys could have been around when the Sioux knocked the Goofs out of the regional a week later...

the old time goph fans that sit next to me claim that these games don't matter - the NCAAs are what really count - I'll make a point of reminding them of that again this year.

  17. the "Minnesota rule" does not exist correct? as if we finish 1st we will play the late game friday should we advance?

It will always exist - but it only takes effect when minny places 2nd or 3rd in the league and should then play the Friday afternoon game.

The first place team is scheduled to play the winner of the Thursday night play-in game on Friday night. This year it will probaly be ND playing on Friday night against Thursday night's winner between minny/sconny - my prediction.

So - the Sioux playing Friday night as the #1 seed is pretty likely - inspite of the minny privilege - as the NY Yankees of NCAA hockey more than likely won't finish high enough to involk this STUPID rule.

  18. Hopefully we didn't crush whatever CC had going with that OT goal today.

CC HAS to win at DU or it is possible that they could end up as low as 7th place as well as no chance at the NCAA tourney - Denver doesn't care (according to their coach anyway) I see CC winning easily as they have much more on the line - not to mention the fact that they are the better team.

  19. I still think there will be a lot of people at the games even if the goofs don't make it.

alot - yes - but the place holds 18,000 and it is never full unless the gophs are playing in the championship game even though it is said to be "sold out"
