  1. The "injury bug is irrelevant" comment could stick if that injury was a season ending injury but Keaton is back and 1-0 since his return.  When he was injured the team went 0-3 and 4-1 when he started and finished the game.  5-1 with Keaton, 0-3 without.  I believe they could make an argument !

You're right on the fact that every team has injuries but when it's the qb position and it's a team that's already young and inexperienced like und is, losing your starting qb deflates.  Your example is montana.  Montana has won some games with their 3rd string,  as where und was just lost with their 2nd stringer.  Plus montana is a perennial power team.  They just reload.

You mentioned , "you have to go by the product you have on the field" !  That's what I'm saying !

Argue about the injuries all you want, but UND's situation is not unique in college football, this year or any year.  Several teams have lost their starting QB, a few that come to mind are Villanova, James Madison, Montana (already mentioned).

If the playoff selection committee were to consider scenarios like the one you describe, then all FCS teams could come up with a similar scenario.  So, as siouxfan512 stated:  "you have to go by the product you have on the field", the committee bases their selection on the entire season, no matter who was or wasn't in the starting line-up for each team.

Anyways, IMHO, the selection committee will consider UND's final record, which if it is 7-4, can make a case for being in the playoffs, based on who they've played and beat.

  2. Are you sure? I load the article and it says "Sun, 11/03/2013".

That, and he has Eastern Washington, Montana, Montana State, Northern Arizona coming from the BSC. Uh ... no.

The article is from 11/03/2013, but if you click the link to the bracket, the bracket was updated 10/31/15

  3. With UND sitting behind 5 teams in the standing, there is plenty of football to follow on Saturday, with UND having the weekend off. These games could all factor into UND's playoff picture. Bottom line is that UND needs to take care of its own business, BUT since they can't do anything this weekend, here are some things to watch.

E Washington vs. N Arizona: As N.Arizona is 3-2 in the conference and 5-3 overall, it would really help UND to have them get another loss or two on their record. That starts this weekend as they travel to Cheney. E. Washington has had several close games (5pt win over Mt St, 8pt win over Sac State, 1pt win over Cal Poly, 2pt win over N Colorado, and 1 pt win over Weber St.) That being said, the eagles have not lost at home. Go Eagles!

Southern Utah @ Mt St: This could get interesting with the Bobcats out of the playoff picture. I'd imagine Prukop will want to bounce back, and while SUU has the leagues top Pass defense, they need to be able to containg Prukops run game. This could be another high scoring shootout. SUU has put up big points on everyone since losing to SDSU (and almost knocking off Utah St before that), but they finish the season with  Mt St, PSU, and NAU. Big weekend for them, because if they lose to the bobcats then their playoff picture gets a little fuzzier. Go Bobcats!

Portland St @ N Colorado: PSU should take care of business, and this is only interesting since we play a similar style to them, and we play N. Colorado next week. PSU will make the playoff, so we might as well see N Colorado get knocked around a bit before they come to GF. Go Vikings!

Montana @ Idaho St: Which Grizz team shows up? The one that smoked us, or the one that lost to Liberty? And Idaho St win would put Montana at 5 losses and out of the playoffs. Montana needs to run the table against Idaho St, E. Washington and Mt St. to make the playoffs. Go Bengals!

2 wins and they are in.  People need to understand this, and head to the Alerus center next saturday. Kill your deer this weekend, get it out of the way!   If you have been away, go back and watch this team.  If you have never been to a game, go and check it out!

Athletic department:  you need to promote the hell out of the UNC game, get that excitement built up!  Do what you can.  Run ads this weekend at the Ralph, and next friday at the Ralph.  SHOW the Big Sky video of Santiago running wild, do something!  PLEASE.

I agree if UND wins out, they are in.  Lose and they are out.  Doesn't matter what anyone else does.

  4. Just like NDSU?

Does that mean NDSU is putting more resources into its football program than UND?

Isn't that what RD17 is saying?

IIRC, there is a limit to the number of coaches FCS teams can have (also FBS, but larger number).  The difference from NDSU, is the Offense of  :)  coordinator coaches running backs instead of quarterbacks.

  5. I would say in 2 years UND should be solid and playoff caliber with the young players they have right now.

Well wait a minute,  isn't winning FCS championships the easiest??? Why is it taking several years?

    Seriously tho.

  6. When was the last time you saw someone, untouched, block someone like that from behind and snap their leg. Regardless of intent that is a rare play in football.

UND blocked like that multiple times Saturday, but didn't break anyone's leg...

It's a sad, sad deal that the kid got hurt.  I could tell it was hard for Bubba to talk about it in the post game presser, but Bubba even said this happens sometimes.

    Can we please move on?

  7. I don't have the video. I watched the game on line and couldn't record it.  I did watch it live and the saw the replay right afterward and posted that it was an intent to injure at that time.  Not sure what other evidence you are looking for.

It has nothing to do with who won the game or being a sore loser.  It was a bad decision on a players part that broke another players leg.

It is amazing you can tell the intent of a player from a video board replay.

    In reality you can't.

You're argument is the same as me saying I saw UND defenders punching our O-Linemen in the groin on the ground after the whistle was blown (that is as dirty as it gets).

Finally, someone tell Cole Reyes to take his hat off during the post game presser.  That is low-class sore loser action.

  8. Ducked his head and and rolled up into the back of his knees.  That is the definition of a dirty play and players know that is off limits.  If don't know that you have no idea how the game is played.

A guy that played with me had a WR do that to him and tore his ACL.  There were NFL scouts at our practices looking at him up until that time and it ended his career.

I have not seen the video, it would be great if you could post it.  The photo that was posted shows nothing.  It is a snapshot during a fast moving series of events, and none on of us can say from one photo if it is a dirty play.  Don't make accusations without some type of evidence, it makes you seem like a sore loser.

You asked for it, you got it.

If dominating an inept offense with a leaky O-line and very young players at key skill positions makes Klieman all warm and fuzzy inside, then so be it. But you should have been dominant against our offense and you were. This remark was more about the media chatter about UND's defense, which actually has some talent and toughness on it after years of being Charmin-soft. If Klieman feels that insecure about the media not focusing entirely on his team, then he better brace himself for when the Bison play other playoff-caliber teams this season.

And as for feeling "all warm inside", you should feel that way if you read Wayne Nelson's column this morning:

     http://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/und-football/3843114-wayne-nelson-bring-bison-again

Based on this perspective, we might as well throw in the towel right now because the mighty Bison will be ruling the roost forever and a day. But the fact is nothing lasts forever and the day is coming when NDSU loses to UND in the playoffs. And I'll be enjoying every minute.

so you think when Klieman says:

“We wanted to prove that we were the best defense out there and we sure as heck did that,” NDSU coach Chris Klieman said.

     he is "whining" and "low-class"?

  10. Found the picture on twitter of the ZA injury:

    CPXfvks_Us_AA_ZH.jpg

Also, went to Bisonville to see if they had any comments yet.  They are laughing it off.  Unreal.

it is terrible that he was injured, but no need to accuse the opponent of a dirty play.

  11. And your HC whining in the paper this morning about how he got sick of hearing about UND's defense, which is way better than what it was two years ago, during the week leading up to the game was real low-class. So the media doesn't talk about the Bison 24/7/365 and totally ignore the team they are playing? Get over it! Is he going to do that during the MVFC season too ("I am really sick of hearing about what Northern Iowa brings to the table")?

What quote of Klieman's are you referring to as low class?  If you're gonna be a sore loser, just re-read Schlossman and Miller's articles in the Herald from last week.  They will make you feel all warm inside

  12. Just heard Chad Stark on 740am podcast.  The guy is almost 50 years old and sounds like the biggest rube/dork.  Expected a little more out of him being on a radio show.

I listened to the interview.  I thought he did a good job.  what exactly did you wish to hear or expect from him?

I hope you're not upset about the little jab he took at UND... it was harmless.

  13. Not sure if this has been mentioned.

The September Bison Illustrated has a ton of content on the UND/NDSU game and the rivalry in general, including an interview with Faison.

    http://issuu.com/fmspotlight/docs/bi_sep15_outlines

skimmed through the online magazine a little, and it was well done.  I am starting to get excited for this!!

on another note, the founder and owner of Spotlight Media (company that publishes Bison Illustrated) is former NDSU punter Mike Dragosavich. I feel like he has done a great job with the magazine in recent years.

  14. This is kind of funny.   the big sky(big fluff) has 6 teams in the top 20 and the best football conference in FCS has 5 teams in the top 20.  You just can trust polls.   I', just looking forward to the home opener on sat. And I will be watching how NDSU defense against Weber.  might be interesting.  Weber likes to pass.

is it as funny as the MVFC having 2 teams in the top 5, and the Big Sky having 1?

Truly it doesn't matter.  But nice that UND got some attention.

  15.

Really?  That's pretty strange since UND announced in April that they would be paying it to M/W hockey players this year and are actually already making the payments.

Well at least we know that Faison offered the courtesy of letting others in the conference know about UND's plans

Maybe I missed it, but I don't recall Kolpack having anything similar in his articles about NDSU.  Wonder why?

Matt Larson said in the press conference he spoke with MVFC and Summit.

Maybe email Jeff and ask why he didn't include that if you are so curious. I think he was the one that asked Larson the question.

  16. The real measure of an ankle sprain is the next morning.........if you're tough, and Wentz is, you can play through it when it happens but the question is, what does it look like now?

not necessarily.  This is a high ankle sprain, and it is different from what most of us are familiar with (like a rolled ankle from pick up bball).  listen to the Jack Michaels show podcast.  He has an Ortho surgeon on talking about the physiology of a high ankle sprain.
