  1. Crandall has it all. None of our starting 3 guards can stop him in practice. He will have a great career for us in the next 4 years. Hooker will continue to get better. He's the leader on the team and has great vision. As previously mentioned, if he could shoot the 3 more consistently and shoot more often he could become a greater threat. We are positioned to make some noise in the BSC the next few years!

  2. Here's a good one. The game on FCS didn't get the first goal by Mac because of a meaningless Mid-Major Basketball game...

Yes, WTF! The Southern Miss/WKU game went long and kicked over to the Sioux game at 18:35 of the 1st period.

They did, however, show a replay of the goal almost right away.

Picture quality was horrible. As bad a midco

  3. And they get the win.  How was the crowd?

The crowd was good. Probably around 1500.

Lots of football players were in attendance as there were a few recruits in town again.

Hobaugh stole Hookers last rebound to deprive him of a triple double.

Sill too many missed layups and free throws. We should have kept the pressure on them and beat them by 30, but Jones as usual played defensive down the stretch. A wins a win though. Teams coming together and have been playing better. Hopefully with the favorable schedule the rest of the way they will make the tournament and could possibly make some noise.

  4. This is from the recent GF Herald Q&A piece with Colten St. Clair......

    Q. If you were UND’s president for a day, what two things would you do?

    A. Can I say bring back the Fighting Sioux logo? I’d bring back the logo, even if it was just for a day. And I’d maybe have a Red Pepper stand in the middle of campus.

He is not the first and probably won't be the last to answer the question in the similar manner. That is of course if someone from the University cries foul to the Herald and has them quit asking the question!

Maybe some of you holier-than-thou folks on this board should go tell Colten and the rest of our student-athletes that they need to move on like you've been preaching to us!

    Agreed!

Most if not all of the hockey players continue to reference us as the Sioux and always will. Even many of the incoming football recruits twitter feeds refer to us as the Sioux.

  5. I would hold off the not so close. I want to to know the answer for sure, but I counted on this site: http://www.sportingcharts.com/nfl/stats/number-of-nfl-players-by-college/2014/ 352 FCS players were on NFL rosters for this season. The number is a little lower than it was at the beginning of the season. In 2012 there were just over 300 who played NCAA D1 hockey http://www.cbssports.com/nhl/eye-on-hockey/21792005/college-hockey-players-increasing-in-number-importance-in-nhl%3Cspan%20class . Im sure that number is a little higher now this season. Also have to keep in mind NFL rosters are much bigger but just wanted to provide numbers. If anybody has the current NHL numbers thatd be great.

Why the f#%$ would you waste your time looking up information such as this and post it on your rivals site?

  6. The bolded statement is most certainly not wrong. Regardless of the circumstances of the game, NDSU bringing 17,000 football fans to a game 1,000 miles away IS way more impressive than UND bringing 2,000 fans to a game 250 miles away. None of the points you made change that.

You seem to be saying that UND would have brought 17K fans to that game IF it had been a playoff game and IF the arena was big enough to hold that many. Maybe you're right maybe you're wrong. Either way you can't take credit for things that didn't actually happen.

But your comparison is wrong and that is what I am pointing out...you're comparing a national championship game to a regular season game. IF UND hockey team makes the National Championship game, i'm sure there will be a comparable amount of UND fans at that game as there are FU fans in Frisco. I'm simply pointing out how wrong you are to compare 2,000 to 17,000 when thats not what anyone but yourself was doing

  7. I agree it's not just a UND issue.  At least placing emphasis on basketball is financially justifiable.  Hockey is a niche sport with a declining fan base.  Also, I'm sure Kansas was re-thinking their emphasis a few years back when it looked like the Big 12 was going to implode over football and Kansas was going to be left behind.  Football drives the bus in college athletics.   Even Duke doesn't have any pull in the ACC if they're opposed to conference moves that benefit football at the expense of basketball and they're the premier basketball program in the country.

I would have to disagree with your bold statement...hockey as a whole is actually gaining popularity in America...

  8. I'm sorry but 2,000 fans at a hockey game in St. Cloud isn't impressive at all when compared to 17,000 fans at a football game in Texas.  The two sports are incomparable.  There are a lot of alumni and, more importantly, prospective students that would have a great deal more interest in watching high quality football or basketball as opposed to high quality hockey.  There is a reason the NHL is solidly fourth among the four major sports and realistically more like 5th or 6th in terms of TV ratings and market share behind the PGA and NASCAR.  Heck, on most nights in a lot of markets in this country you're more likely to find an MLS or Premier League soccer game on your television as opposed to an NHL game.  College hockey doesn't even register.  It's a non-event.

    Bold statement is very wrong!

You can't compare a regular season game to a national title game. Plus as mentioned in that post you're referring to, stated SCSU hockey arena only holds 5 to 6,000 fans, so how could one possibly fit 17,000 in there?

There are way too many simple minded statements made on here that people make without thinking what they're even saying through. Unbelievable

  9. Despite the extreme cold, Lack of money...team has to play a bunch of road games to afford trip to Italy next summer, cannot afford a video board that some high schools teams have, lack of In state talent , Hockey School, NDSU is a more attractive in state program higher RPI  conference, bigger metropolitan area, And Basketball not an after thought to other sports.  Do not be stupid enough to compare NDSU football to UND hockey NDSU football is a 2nd tier Sport at NCAA level UND Hockey plays at the TOP NCAA level. The fact that UND has been one of the TOP 3 big sky teams since joining is amazing!!!  Since Joining the Big Sky 2 years ago UND has finished 2nd and 3rd.  I guess there are 9 other coaches doing worse that need to be fired!  Heck 80% of the College basketball coaches in the USA have done worse in their  conference the last 2 years....Might as well fire 80% of all the coaches out there!   The 20 % of the coaches who do not deserve to be fired yet  UND can offer them a 1.5 Million a year to coach the team.  Amazing

Bold statement is incorrect. Big Sky is higher than the Summit league this year

  10. Fire Jones for not finishing in top 4 this season is like someone saying Duke should fire Coach K if Duke fails to reach the final 4 Every year. Guess what folks UND is a mens hockey school that it everything else is an after thought. UND has no money for a great HC they have very little in state talent.  They have no video board. It is damn cold place to be . And recruits love 20 below weather and playing for a school where hockey is the king sport and basketball is just another pawn sport.

Obviously you have no idea of the talent on this years squad and where they should be rather than where they are already at this point of the season. Maybe they'll improve as the year goes on, but they're not where they could and should be. especially after that NDSU loss.

  11. Just a thought...what if UND loses to Dickinson St? Fire him after the game, after the season or see what happens next season? I am not hoping by any means UND loses but UMC lost to NDSU by 1, we lost by almost 30.

If we lose to DSU you have to fire him! There is no excuse in losing to any NAIA school EVER!!! I believe Shay and the rest have enough in them to interim the rest of the season and possibly that would be motivation to get the players going as well.

  12. Now picture that at a football or basketball game.

Obviously we'd only be Suhaki on paper which is a type of deer, but would ultimately be refered to as the Su, as in Sioux, as a middle finger to the NC$$.

No it wouldn't be great for football or basketball but the idea isn't aimed at only supporting our hockey team

  13. I was completely embarrassed to be at the game on Saturday as a UND fan. The team played horrible, Jones did nothing on the bench to get his player going, seemed he had no care in the world walking off the court at halftime being down 43-19, was sitting on the bench the whole game, didn't make any changes or ran plays. I mean he got out coached by a first year coach for NDSU. How embarrassing!

In post game he said the team didn't come out to play and didn't follow the scouting report...well that's on you as coach to get the players to do what you want and need to do to win. It should have been our most competitive game of the year against our biggest rivals and might turn out to be our worst.

He's had 9 years to progress his players and the program but continues to be mediocre and average. His players do not progress in their time here under his leadership. Huff, Webb, Anderson and company were very underachieved last year with the talent they had and didn't progress as they should have IMO. They should have made the tournament even over weber st.

Already this year they have lost 3 games they should have won with the talent on the team. Not sure if it's his coaching philosophy or his lack of motivating his players but he does not get the most out of his players and get them to play a full 40 minutes.

I say give him the rest of the season and If we are not top 4 in the conference he must go!

  14. Throwing this out there... I'm sure it's been thrown out there before but am giving it s go...

    UND Suhaki!!!

We could still chant " and the home of the Su....haki!!! And when the announcer says "the University of North Dakota...(fans chant) Su!!!

    Any thoughts?

  15. It's good news that Drake returned, albeit briefly. If he had suffered a serious injury, he would have stayed out. Let's hope it was just something minor that a week's rest will cure..

Yes, let's hope so! It was a positive sign seeing him return only to then leave the game again. Precautionary measures I hope...
