  1. Looks like exactly how I described him. Mediocre today.

If  you call mediocre a 6-6- 230 pound, first year starting quarterback who throws for  3,111 yards (most in NDSU history) 25 touchdown passes to 10 interceptions on a 63.7% completion percentage, rushes for 642 yards and 6 TD's (second in both categories for NDSU this year), leads his team to two come from behind game winning drives in the playoffs, wins the national championship game basically single handed with his play, while earning the FCS National Championship game MVP, and replaced an NDSU legend and most success FCS quarterback of all time, I want a mediocre quarterback like Carson Wentz every year on my team.

Clearly you don't watch FCS football often to realize what type of a talent he is at this level. It is extremely rare.

  2. I live in the Twin Cities and have season tickets.  I was at all of the games except for the last one when I was in Brazil.  Too long of a commute from there.

I really respect that. I am sorry to lump you in with the majority.

Too many UND alumni I know could give a flying f less about the football team. The same argument comes up every time, at least in my experiences, as to why they don't go to games. They think the FCS is a JV league and their team isn't worth watching. I think that is a pathetic attitude. I don't care if you go to an NAIA, D3,  or D2 school, you should support your university, regardless of whether or not they are playing the best of the best every weekend. Funny thing is, I hardly remember any UND alums having this type of attitude when UND was in D2.

  3. What I'm seeing in that piece of history is how ones dynasty can fall into the hand of their rival in a matter of years not decades.

25 years down the road when UND wins something meaningful in the playoffs, you will tell everyone I told you So! You have been saying the same thing  over and over and over again. NDSU just keeps winning.

You know what the difference between NDSU and UND is? NDSU has a 3-8 season, and bounces back the next year with a season including a win over a Big 12 FBS team and a playoff quarterfinal run ending in an OT loss to the eventual national champion. UND has a 3-8 season, and 3-8 type seasons continue for a decade.

NDSU is going to have a down year at some point. It just happens to even the best of programs. What makes programs great is their ability to respond  to that and turn it around quickly, as NDSU has proven to do in recent history given in the last 50 years, they have had 3 sub .500 seasons and won 12 national championships.

  4. These teams out of the FCS made the SU run possible and is making a mess out of FBS.

You do realize that NDSU had to beat Georgia Southern, the most successful FCS program of all time, twice in the semi-finals, in order to win the first two national championships? App State and Georgia Southern were also in the FCS for the first three national championships. Besides Western Kentucky and UMASS, none of the other programs that you named ever played in the FCS national championship programs. Most of these teams are newly created football programs, were a joke in the FCS and are still a joke in the FBS. Not sure how them leaving made NDSU's run possible.

FCS is JV, FCS is a joke, FCS is watered down etc etc. If that is the case, what the hell is UND's excuse for being one of the most pathetic programs in the FCS and have not even sniffed the playoffs? Instead of being a big baby about NDSU's success, go buy season tickets for UND football and support your team. I would bet 90% of you guys on this site go to maybe one or two game a year. Pathetic support from your alumni  and fan base is what has made UND football what it is today.

  5. Wrong again!! Florida A&M has won the FCS championship and their from the MEAC. A&M has also tried to move to FBS but failed due to money.

Yes you are right...36 years ago. Things have changed drastically since then. That conference is a non factor and has not has a serious title contender in 3 decades.

  6. how many more conferences not taking part in the playoffs is it gonna take to realize that there huge issues with fcs football (and the fcs to fbs step ups)....if the ndac would've done this ten years it would have been quite the feat but now its just a little watered down...

The conferences not participating in the playoffs have never had a conference member win a national championship. Those conferences not participating is the opposite of watering down the playoffs. A !@#!$ MEAC team only takes the spot of an at large team from a power conference.

  7. So your team wins a national championship and the first place you post is on UND fan site? You feel so inferior you need to come here and try and rub it in - what about your true rival SDSU - gonna go post there too? You just finished a great 4-year run and you top it off by showing more of your immaturity and lack of class.

No it wasn't. Just wanted to read through this for a good laugh. I know NDSU winning bothers you guys the most. Sitting with two SDSU alums right now and they were cheering for NDSU today.

  8. The more NDSU wins, the more people in Grand Forks, and even apart of UND, start to think UND football "sucks". That's the one thing NDSU winning does that bothers me: with NDSU success the general perception that UND football is irreverent only grows. The uphill climb for UND and Bubba continues...

    Go UND!

NDSU doesn't need to win in order for your fan base to make UND football appear to be irrelevant. They do it to themselves by calling FCS football a joke, JV, not truly important because it isn't FBS, and by atrocious attendance numbers.

Not trying to be an ass. Just calling it how I see it.

  9. If you're at all aware of how recruiting works, you know that each school operates on their own schedule and evaluates talent differently. A number of UNDs commits committed quite early, perhaps before other schools stepped up. Sometimes it is true that the early bird gets the worm.

I also know for a fact that some kids soured on your program before offers were being made. It may come as a surprise to you, but not every kid feels the way you do about your school, your community, your coaching staff, etc.

As for the accuracy of the Gopher Hole list, all I can say is that it's well known in MN and the guys that run it are pretty plugged in. Like anything there are probably some errors or omissions but on the whole it's pretty accurate.

Don't know what you guys are all upset about. Just asking if what I looked at was accurate.

Curious to see that Bubba is winning recruiting battles with D2 schools and not much else. I would have figured he would be killing it with that indoor practice facility, amazing academics, and pull of the Big Sky.

I do realize how recruiting can be funny though. NDSU was Brock Jensen's only D1 offer and we know how that turned out.

Didn't know about the Canadian kid. Was not aware NDSU even recruited there. The New Town kid's dad played at UND so that is logical that he went there I guess.

  10. Mods? Apparently Cletus didn't get the memo.

I am seriously just asking a question.

I have never seen this list before and was just wondering if UND received any big Minnesota commitments over any other FCS or FBS schools.

  11. You're assuming the data presented is complete and accurate. You know what they say about the internet.

As far as your second statement, you said it ... and prove it.*

*You should have said "correctly" as you need an adverb for your verb "looking".

    Who compiles and confirms this?

  12. Seriously? Really, after all that was just said about smack?

Your own board, BV, told you to knock it off over here.

No smack talking. Just asking a question to make sure I am looking at this correct.

I received my education at NDSU, so my learning ain't well.

  13. Who said it was vastly superior?

You guys act like UND is Harvard or something. It is a good school that offers some unique programs, just like NDSU with their AG programs, pharmacy programs etc.

Here is the bottom line. A very small percentage of football players are going to go to NDSU due to their pharmacy program or go to UND to be an air traffic controller. The vast majority of these guys major in sports management, education/coaching, exercise science, general business etc. When it comes to those majors, a paper with UND or a paper with NDSU is going to be seen the same.

  14. Here is the bottom line.

11 National Championships to 1 in the favor of NDSU.

If you guys had such a vastly superior recruiting advantage due to academics, I would have expected you to win more than 1 national championship in over 110 years of playing football.

  15. UND offers academic opportunities that NDSU can't always match: aviation, business, medical, law, and petroleum engineering, just to name a few. Also, NDSU's practice bubble is a joke compared to UND's $20 million HPC. Not every prospect just jumps at the winningest FCS program of the pasts few seasons, especially when most DI

prospects do not want to attend FCS schools but rather have their sights on FBS.

UND has the ability to offer playing time, specific academic

majors, a great practice/training facility, and most importantly, a good family coaching atmosphere.

All of these things don't create an advantage for UND over NDSU, but they do allow UND to recruit many of the same athletes that NDSU recruits.

You are right. UND just rolls in the recruits who become doctors, lawyers, etc. Give me a break.

Last time I checked, you need to get an undergraduate degree to get into law or medical school to become doctor or lawyer. There have been a lot of players to come through NDSU and went to to graduate school somewhere else, including UND.

Also NDSU has a great business school that is AACSB accredited, just like UND's business school.

If you honestly want to argue an advantage to recruiting through academics, I would say NDSU has it with their AG program. NDSU's offensive line has been phenomenal throughout the last half century, and a lot of the lineman have been rural farm boys who go to NDSU due to their AG program.

  16. Exactly.

    And THEY know it.

Clearly, as evidenced by the fact that NDSU landed last week an additional 4 stud recruits, all of which had FBS offers, to go on top of an incredibly strong recruiting class.

  17. He has measurables. That's it. He will not do anything in the league... And that's assuming he gets a shot.

NDSU or UND....pretty god darn cool an ND kid might get a shot at the NFL as QB.

  18. Congrats to NDSU...4 straight trips to the FCS championship game is very impressive.

Thanks Oxbow for the good sportsmanship !I know I struggle with it....

Win or get beat, what a run by NDSU!
