  1. I think that once this team gets a sweep under its belt it will snowball into a prolonged winning streak. Let's look at the bright side here in that in Hak's first three years here we have been swept at least once in the first half of the season: once his first year, twice his second year and 4 times last year before x-mas. This season we haven't been swept once, we have a winning record both overall and at home and have played arguably the toughest schedule in the country. I think anybody on this board would take us finishing 3rd and hanging number 8 at the end of the year instead of winning number 14 and coming home early in March.

Let's hope the boys can heal most of their injuries in the next few weeks and come out like gangbusters against UNH, which when it comes to the pairwise at the end of the year this could be our biggest series of the year, it could mean the difference between a solid 2 seed or a 3 seed.

Agreed. We sweep UNH and we'll be positioning ourselves favorably for the 2nd half and the NCAAs. Unfortunately, I believe the Mn win on Sat will be the start of their turn-around with several more cream-puffs on their schedule during the holidays.

  2. It wasn't a photo. It was a video. A Gopher player sits down in the penalty box and takes "his" helmet off, only to reveal that it's a woman. It gives the appearance that you're seeing a live feed from the penalty box. But obviously, it's not.

Wheeler definitely needs a hair cut before his next bleaching.

  3. Didn't Wooger guarantee a Gopher victory? Something like that was the only guaranteed game in the tourney.

We (my wife, brother-in-law, & buddies) ran into Wooger in between periods of the Sioux/Michigan game right after the Holy Cross win. We were all decked out in Sioux gear (including green wigs) but he gave us a smile as we put our arms around him for a picture. Dang, wish I could find that picture. Wasn't on my camera.

No question Wooger is a big time homer and fun to poke fun at, but in person, he's pretty funny and a good guy. I've had a couple experiences playing golf and sitting at his table during a gopher luncheon and it was priceless. Give him a couple beers and look out!

  4. Believe I read that UND is 10-3-1 in their last 14 games vs. DU in Denver. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Each season is different, but that gives hope that they can and have played well there recently.

Did you check our record against Mich Tech in Houghton prior to that series split? That 10-3-1 mark means absolutely nothing. Unfortunately, we'll be lucky to split.

  5. Second Division team? And who besides the Sioux would be first division? The 2-4-0 BADgers? The 3-5-0 Gophs? Is Tech a second division team? We all know the "second division" is the EZAC. :D

The badgers may be 2-4 but they just came off of a come back tie against MS (who is playing a lot better than when we beat them in Oct) and have 2 games in hand on ND. They're next 4 games are against SCSU and Mankato. If the sue keep playing to split, the badgers will pass them too. A sweep at Denver is unlikely as is the home series against Mn. Here we go again, another slow start and we'll be scrambling for home ice down the stretch.

  6. One of the goals the team and coaching staff had for this year was to avoid the slow start they have experienced the past few years. One less loss and we all would be smiling and riding high right now. A sweep of Wisconsin will set us all at ease. Personally I feel we cannot afford a split this weekend. We need to take 4 points from or we will be hurting again through the end of the year. I hate fighting right to the end to finish in the top three. Denver looks really good right now and Mn (because of the rivalry) will likely be ready to play when they come to the Ralph. If we end up being a one line team, we're in trouble because no one on this team can replace Toews. We need to maintain balance. Some nights we have it, some nights we don't. If we would have scored on the PP when CC got the shortie, I believe we win. No need to panic.

Anyone know if the WI games are on TV? I'm anxious to see Turris.

  7. Good to hear Forney's going to get another shot on Friday night. Also good to hear that the team feels there's good cohesiveness this early in the year. Hopefully, that only gets stronger as the year progresses! Thanks PCM.

Before long we might start seeing girls with "Me so Forney" T-shirts to go along with the "Me so Chorney" ones....

  8. Indians into Medicince, Nursing, Engineering, etc, Elder health care, Diabete prevention/education, 30+ Native American programs already are in place. 'An evening of entertainment' was not to influence but to expose the members to the 'environment' of an athletic event. To show them that no disrespect was exhibited towards Native Americans.

I fear they may not be treated the same around campus going forward. Alot of nut-jobs out there.

  9. I didn't get to see the Northeastern game but was currious who was on the second PP defense with Genoway? Although biased I thought LaPoint looked good against BC controlling the flow of that second unit but he didn't play against NE.

Not sure but I thought it was big Joe

  10. U.S. International in San Diego ring a bell. That's right, one of the most dominating teams in College Hockey history the 1987 Sioux lost to them along with a Colorado College team that was consistently bad back then. I would hope the Sioux remember getting swept in Grand Forks last year, but I think it gives Tech confidence it can beat us. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Tech wins one.

Yes it rings a bell but I said rarely. Bring me a long list of loses from our recent championships at the hands of weaker teams. Last year we won nothing.

  11. Lots of folks are parading out this "No. 1 team in the nation" candy. It don't mean jack.

The last few years, when the Goofie fans were flying that flag, many said it don't matter a lick.

It doesn't. In college hockey, perhaps more than any other major sport, No. 1 means nothing, especially this early, and especially since, top to bottom, No. 12 or 15 can beat No. 1 or 3 on any given weekend of the year.

Tech is no slouch. Who is to say that these are games that we should win just because we are No. 1?

Whoever wants the puck more will win these games.

That's not what I'm saying at all. I agree that the fact that coaches across the country feel we are good enough to be considered #1 one doesn't mean anything in the end, and most of them don't know us from Adam. Our program kinda rides under the radar. But I think we should beat teams like MT because of our talent, scoring depth, NHL draft choices, experience on the blueline, returning hobey baker winner, 3 preseason 1st team all americans, etc. etc. etc. You're right. I think we can accept a split... :)

  12. I think that anything less than 2 points is unacceptable. I would hope The Fighting Sioux plays hard and lays some smack down on the huskies after embarrassed the Sioux last season in the REA. I would hope they come out and hustle and out work the Huskies. I am one of those people that realize that MTU is improved but I also don't believe all the hype. Sure they are a 4-7 place team in the WCHA, but UND should win against the Huskies. Getting swept by this team last season was unacceptable and the Sioux should have a bad taste in their mouth and should play with an edge this weekend.

Goon's right on. I don't care if MT is improved. We're the #1 team in the nation for God's sake. We need to bury teams like this. We cannot afford to drop games we should win. And these are games we should win. We've got the #1 team in the nation riding the hottest goalie in the country. When I look back on previous SIOUX WCHA Championship years, rarely did we lose those games. We should expect nothing less than a Sioux sweep.
