There has been rumblings about NMSU looking at the Summit (and Big Sky) for well over a year now. They aren't exactly thrilled with who they are associated with in the WAC. They help with the baseball problem, but not the soccer problem and are out of the geographic footprint. On the other hand, they are a land and space grant school, which is a positive.

The soccer thing can probably be solved with an affiliate easy enough. As far as the geographic footprint, I'd say they would be better off in the Summit (minus the Indiana schools) then they are in the WAC. The WAC is crap for schools and geography.

  2. Lots of panic and the sky is falling talk on here by the same folks who never wanted to leave the BSC to begin with isn't surprising. There isn't a need for mass hysteria yet IMO. I think everyone knew the Indiana schools were gone as soon as they got the opportunity. I see it as addition by subtraction. The Summit has shifted west and will be much more geographically appealing to better schools then the bus league loving eastern block. Never wanted to be associated with IUPUI or IPFW to begin with so no real loss on my part. As long as the Summit adds the right schools moving forward I think it will only get better. My first preference to replace IUPUI would be NMSU.

The team from my understanding at that time needed and wanted a home game to bolster their home schedule, something they routinely get criticized for, by some here.  My understanding is that they had already fulfilled the money game quota the athletic department sets upon it, by that time.  And you don't take any more money games than necessary, after all you are trying to pick up wins too, and in non-conference play, those more often than not come at home.  So the search for the home game was more paramount last year than taking a money road game at SDSU because they had already scheduled their $ games.   From my understanding the only 2 teams that are asked to go and get substantial money games off campus (because they are the only 2 who really can)  are Football (1 every year or every other year- correct me if I'm wrong) and Men's Basketball (2 or 3 every year, again correct me if I'm wrong)  I guess Men's Basketball could pull something like a Delaware State and play nothing but road money games in the months of November and December if you feel they aren't picking up enough of the slack already.

No I was seriously curious of how much they offered. It's not like SDSU would have been a for sure loss. Would have been nice to get paid for a road win and quite possible last year IMO.

UND wanted to sign a home/home. What they were offering UND as "pay" to play a one time game in Brookings wasn't worth it.

What were they offering? It had to be less then the bus fare to not be worth it!

Lol, I'm really surprised you're here spreading they beat out Iowa and ISU on a recruit, whether those offers were still in play or not.

I don't know if they were still in play or not but still the kid was like the #1 ath in Iowa?

Riley Moss, who we have an offer out to, committed to the Bison.  They are on a roll right now.

It's nuts. They have beaten out NIU, Iowa and Iowa State on kids already.???

I suppose that win at Iowa last year didn't hurt.

  7. From what I have seen and read from most Summit League members is the loss of IUPUI is actually not that big a deal. They are apparently a bottom feeder and unwilling to spend to be competitive. Addition by subtraction maybe. Now losing IPFW might be more painful but it may allow for better geographic fits for the Summit. Without the Indiana schools the travel would be significantly reduced. Time will tell where it all leads but I don't think it's time to panic just yet. Summit will be back to 8 with the loss of IUPUI but back to 9 with UND. Perhaps they will try to get UMKC back.

Anyone, alum or not, can call/write UND to bitch/praise anything they want to.

Somehow Chip needs to write out a big check if he wants to voice an opinion?

No but money talks and bull$%!# walks. Or more precisely money pays the bills and pissing and moaning doesn't usually get you very far.

  9. The MVC is ripe for a major upheaval, especially if the privates get their way. We could very well see some drastic changes in the next 2-3 years. Would be great to see the MVFC schools form an all sports conference and let the rest of the MVC/Summit fend for themselves.

Those are some good non conference games scheduled so far.  Obiously we'll all look forward to the FBS games, but playing Sam Houston back to back years will be interesting as well.  The only year we don't have an FBS game we play you know who, so an exciting non conference game that year too.  Looks good!

2019 is a 12 game year so could still get an FBS game.

  11. I'm not suggesting Berry is overpaid but rather the fact most of our other coaches are under paid. Jones has probably earned a healthy increase as well as his assistants. Bubba and his staff too for that matter.

IPFW, IUPUI, and Western Illinois are dregs of that conference who don't even provide a good travel stop.  The Big Sky is just so much more of a sexier conference.  A tournament in Sioux Falls vs one in Reno?  For someone who lives far from ND, the Slummit is so much more unappealing for travel locations.  For most of the Slummit's existence, schools have wanted out, not in like UND has done.

IPFW beat Indiana this season. WTF makes the BSC "sexier"? Is it Cheney? Maybe Moscow or Greeley? The Summit is a much different conference with the Dakota schools now the nucleus. I think it's only going to get better.

How the <bleep> did Nagy get that guy, and how did Miles miss him?

Well I read a story that when Daum redshirted they weren't even sure he could play at this level. He worked his tail off and got beat on by Cody Larson for a year. He's come a long way in a short period of time. Wouldn't be shocked if he left early.

Competed.  See the word "competed".  We didn't play anybody better than them so that is the only reference point.  USD competed just fine with all your top end teams.  They just need to learn how to win.

USD has been a bottom third MVFC team since they joined the conference.

I certainly hope we aim higher then USD because they certainly are not "competeing fine" IMO.
