  1. Some und troll on the bison media blog made the statement that Golladay is the top nfl prospect in North Dakota. Given he's only played one season, which was hampered by a high ankle sprain, that's quite the statement. But when you really think about it he just might be. He's got the height and with how's he's already developed after one winter who knows what he'll look like as a senior. My first thought was it was ridiculous. After thinking about it, it could end up being true. Emphasis on could.

Just going by what we saw in the spring game, Golladay certainly has a ton of potential. He looked outstanding, albeit against our defense. Let's hope we see some highlights of him on ESPN!!!

  2. How will teams like UM, IN, and Northwestern be able to afford to pay other FBS schools who demand upwards of $1 million for OOC games every year? Won't this just cost them more money and wins towards bowl eligibility? These teams have no shot at the BCS playoff anyway so why would they be so concerned with SOS?

If this happens, I could see the rivalry with NDSU renewed on a yearly basis!

  3. Totally stupid. Why not East and West, because now with expansion what is Maryland...a legend or a leader (answer is neither).

Maybe the "Has Been's" and the "Never Was's"?

  4. Agreed and I would guess he ends up a Gopher.

If he has a great senior season I doubt the gophers will even get him. He looks like OSU or USC type player in that highlight video.

  5. Good Input . . . Easy to say, but really, really, really hard to make happen. Splitting 41 out of FBS to the 75 Level would be virually impossible. It would be just as easy for them to go up 5 than down 10. Also your split would throw two full scholarship FCS conference into tier 3, like the Southland, OVC, Big Sky or Valley. How do you choose two to move down? If you pick schools instead of conferences, you tear conferences apart. Really hard to make happen.

Also, I'd say your Tier 3 level of 60 scholarships is too high. I'd move the max to 50, but even at that level, a championship in Tier 3 is basically meaningless, with a lot of non-scholarship schools.

In the end, I belive that 2 championships will prevail, even if the levels change a little. In the end, I don't think you want any DI championship that has teams that are not as good as DII. That's what you'd have at the DI- 0to50 level.

And geez, get rid of your A,AA,AAA's. I'd just call the Subdivisions DI-90, DI-75, DI-50. All these schools are meeting the academic requirements of DI, and they all play DI basketball, don't screw that up.

I know it would be really hard to implement. Do all FBS schools give out the full compliment of 85 schollies now? If not those would be the schools that would probably need to move down. Same for the FCS schools that don't give out 63 now.

The conferences would all have to be realigned since your putting 12 schools in each conference with 7 conferences per tier. I don't see how you would be able to just move conferences around and get the numbers and the right schools where they need to be.

Maybe add more schollies to the top tier, say 100, I would think the BCS schools would make that happen fairly easily. I think you would almost be better off splitting them up by schollie alocation. With 25 schollies separating the 3 tiers, it should make a more distinction between them. Then set up the championship playoff formats however those groups decide, while the non-fully funded schollie teams would be left out.

I do like your subdivisions DI-100, DI-75, & DI-50 better! That kind of states the difference between them the best.

Kind of fun to throw out thoughts and see what other people think, not that any of this would ever happen but who knows what it will look like in 20 years!

  6. My personal opinion is that Midco sucks, mainly because I don't get it!

Can UND work out a deal with the ABC affiliates to air games statewide like NDSU does with NBC? I suppose Midco wouldn't allow that though. When is the Midco deal done?

  7. Got to admit we would get killed by NDSU right now. Face it they are just a more physical team. I really wish UND would concentrate on more of a power game like NDSU. Play great defense and pound the rock. That's what got us a D2 championship. It's the right formula for success at any level. Just look at Alabama, big physical linemen where down and punish the other team. We need to fundamentally change the way we approach the game from a recruiting, training, coaching and execution stand point. The high flying offense is fun to watch but I want to win championships!

  8. A kind of funny thought just popped into my head. Obviously ndsu has missed out on some prime years to kick some Und ass in football while Und recovers from the transition and other stuff. Just think how pissed all those bison fans and former players will be if when we do play again Und wins. There will be cries about how they would've beaten us the last 10 games for sure. In the whole not scheduling Und situation the real loser is ndsu because next time we play they will most likely but on a slight downswing while Und will be on the upswing for the next 5 years.

I'm kind of torn. I liked the last ten years of the rivalry but the '80s were a bummer. I'm not sure if or when we could get back to their level though. I wouldn't mind seeing an every other year game but I would really rather we beat them in the playoffs!

  9. Nothing is stopping UND from getting their own TV deal right? Except our performance maybe?

Hopefully we win 8-9 games this season and earn some exposure!

  11. In order to split the FBS (125 schools) and FCS (127 schools) as they are currently they would have to decrease scholarships for the bottom teams and or increase schollies for the top teams. Otherwise there is no justification for reclassification. Here is my thoughts:

Top 84 in FBS right now, goes to 90 schollies = D1-A. Split into 7, 12 team conferences, conference champs + 7 "wild cards" advance to playoff = 14.

Bottom 41 in FBS and Top 43 in FCS goes to 75 schollies = D1-AA conference champs plus 3 "wild cards" advance to playoff = 10.

Then the bottom 84 in FCS trim to 60 schollies = D1-AAA conference champs + 1 "wild card" advance to playoff = 8.

Then we combine all (32 teams) into one playoff system similar to the BB tourney:

32 team playoff, all games are "Bowl" games. Possible underdog story. One champion is crowned! Bracketology, betting, sponsers, money galore!
