  1. The problem with that is you are allowed to use your stick or arm to establish the opposing player's position so then it's the gray area did he grab a fist full of jersey was the stick just feeling for the player or was that a little tug and a hook.

Then they need to be a little clearer in the rule book, as it states "in any manner". Does it state in the rule book you are allowed do that to establish the opposing player's position? What happened to hustle and battle the player off of the puck, instead we get all this grabbing and hooking other players. Even when players are skating down the rink with the puck, plenty of opposing players, including UND, tries to hook the player with the puck a little. Why? Be a man and skate to the player and hit him/bump him off the puck. Or poke check the puck away. You can hit a player who has the puck, just make sure you're not in dangerous area. Or mabye i'm the one thats really bothered with all of this play.

  2. There is way too much clutching and grabbing going on in today's game in college. I agree that if a player takes his hand off his stick and grabs the player with the puck it should be a 2 minute minor for holding. Obviously we would have a parade to the penalty box if this was enforced but I believe the holding rule should be stricter.

In the NCAA rule book in Section 7 under restraining fouls -

    Rule 56 - Holding

A player shall not hold or grab opponent in any manner (stick, hand, etc.)

    PENALTY - Minor

Another rule that should be enforced more is holding the stick.

Rule 57 - Holding the stick

A player shall not hold an opponent's stick in any manner.

    PENALTY - Minor

The game would be a lot better if the refereers actually made calls when they are supposed to. As soon as the UW defender placed his hand on Grimaldi his arm should have gone up. They dont follow the rule book as strict as I would like them too. Rules are rules. Like I said, the game has changed so much. Now with the stick holding, I understand if the referee cant see it, but if he does, even for a second, it should be called.

  3. If you look at SCSU and Omaha's wcha record vs ours you will notice one huge difference. The W's and T's column.

    SCSU 13-5-1

    Omaha 12-5-2

    UND 8-5-6

The amount of losses are the same, but those two teams have found a way to win more games. We are now in Feb. and still can't find a way to finish. It's starting to get really frustrating. Still a good amount of games yet. We need two points tonight. Enough said.

  4. One thing that really irritates me is how the boys are not standing tall on the blue line. They just allow the forwards to cruise in and get a shot off. The defense in the past would always challenge. Another thing is the battles along the boards and the foot races to the puck. We need to be very more aggressive in all three zones from here on out.

On that second goal. Panzarella showed no urgency to get in front of the net and tie up the SCSU forward after he lost the battle behind the net. If you watch the replay, he just slowly skates around the net. He has a good few seconds to get to the SCSU player before the puck is passed to the forward. Lazy

  5. Maybe we are trying to delay the second half surge a few weeks to time it right? ???

I sure hope. As long as this team gets into the national tournament I'll be happy. But if they are going to have to play 6 games in 9 days......(yale)

So far in the past three weekends, it's been hard for this team to get a W. We could only get 2 points from a struggling CC team, and we almost got sweept by them in their barn earlier. This team has a lot of ties, which kind of concerns me.

  6. I'm new to this board but not a new Fighting Sioux hockey fan and it's unbelievable how many people don't want to call out the head coach when he should be called out. Season after season when we don't win the Frozen Four people make excuses for him and he makes excuses for the team. He hasn't won a National Title and he s**t canned and tried to make a scapegoat out of the one coach who has won a National Title as a player and a coach.

The book "One Goal" is a perfect example of how this team is run because the book is more about Hakstol than anything else. Coach Jackson wasn't mentioned once, Coach Eades only once and we got a whole lot of pictures of behind the scenes looks at Hakstol and his family. The book was a disappointment and so is the performance of the Head Coach who year after year can't win a title with teams, that on paper, are the most talented.

Well that's interesting. The book is supposed to be about the Malone, Frattin and Trupp team that went to the frozen four, right? Hmmm

  7. One thing i'd like to add is how many times we have had games like this. Where we lost one on one battles, lost races to the puck, didn't establish a forecheck, didn't lay the body, ect. At the end of those games they talked about how they still have tomorrrow or they still have next weekend. But what happens once playoffs start. You have to play a full 60 minutes of hockey no matter what.

Also, where is the team that played the 5 minutes of overtime for UND vs MN? Hopefully they show up for saturdays game.
