  1. Here is a scenario I ran in the pairwise predictor that I would like to see if they kept bracket integrity with the matchups.

    Atlantic Hockey

    Semifinal #2: Connecticut defeats Mercyhurst

    Semifinal #1: Niagara defeats Canisius

    Championship game: Niagara defeats Connecticut

    CCHA

Semifinal #2: Notre Dame defeats Ohio State

    Semifinal #1: Miami defeats Michigan

Championship game: Miami defeats Notre Dame

    ECAC

    Semifinal #2: Yale defeats Union

    Semifinal #1: Quinnipiac defeats Brown

Semifinal #2: Boston College defeats Boston University

    Semifinal #1: Massachusetts-Lowell defeats Providence

Championship game: Massachusetts-Lowell defeats Boston College

    WCHA

Semifinal #2: Colorado College defeats Minnesota

where is boston college in your bracket? they did end up being 5th overall seed with you running the predictor

  2. we cant expect to go far giving up bad goals. if so, we need special teams to be there. tonight it wasn't. first few pp's wern't bad. had chances. but the rest were terrible. 1st goal, whiffed on clearing attempt and you could also say that mabye saunders was a little out of position. second goal, was shorthanded breakaway. 3rd goal, cant give up those ones. it looked harmless. 4th was a deflection, what are you gonna do, thats how it goes.

hopefully special teams is a hot topic in practice next week. overall und wasnt terrible. but made a few bad mistakes, and the opposition scored. cant have any of that come tourney time.

  3. Seeing as no part of my post was written in anger? When do I state that I am mad? The whole post illustrates my thoughts on the selections and my predictions on how it will play out.

    relax. not being serious.

  4. First of all, Haula got absolutely snubbed, he deserves to be there. I honestly think it will be very easy to predict the top 3. I think the goalies can be eliminated right off the bat, I would expect there numbers to go down in the NCAA tournament anyway. Czarnik has no really no chance. His team is good, but his numbers aren't there. I really don't think he deserves to be on this list. The St. Lawrence guys have good numbers, but not good enough to account for playing in the ECAC. Plus they won't make the NCAA tournament. Same thing for Walters, good numbers, but his team is out of the NCAA tournament so I would guess he is out as well.

That leaves Knight, Kristo, LeBlanc, and Gaudreau. All four have a very good shot at this award. I honestly think the front runner is Kristo. Gaudreau has good numbers, but not substantially better than the other 3. He is also an underclassmen, and they rarely win this award. After this weekend, Kristo could have a better points-per-game average than Gaudreau. LeBlanc doesn't have many goals, but is without a doubt, the leader of the WCHA champs.

I think this is the year that voters will vote for the storyline or background of the player, kind of like a few years ago when Geoffrion won it. He won it despite being the 4th leading scorer on his own team (4-year player, senior captain, goal scorer). LeBlanc coming back for his fifth year using a medical redshirt. Gaudreau being the star of the gold medal winning Team USA. Knight being such a good two way player, and character guy. Kristo, a legitimate pro prospect and star since he came to UND, stayed all four years when no one thought he would. This doesn't happen very often anymore, so hopefully he is rewarded for it this year.

the coaches chose this list. go be mad at them.

  5. From USCHO Dec. 12, 2012 - CCHA Columinst Paula C. Weston

When teams meet in March to play for the Mason Cup one last time, they’ll be doing so on Saturday and Sunday. At first, the Detroit Red Wings had scheduled a Friday night game, forcing the CCHA to seek an alternative to its usual Friday-Saturday schedule. When the NHL decided to pick up its collective puck and go home, the CCHA heard arguments to move the games back to Friday and Saturday, but what was done was done.

“We had to go to the NCAA championship committee to get a one-year exception to playing on Sunday,” Pletsch said. “They also had to get clearance from ESPN to move the selection show.”

That’s correct. The ESPN NCAA hockey championship selection show has been moved to 9 p.m. the Sunday before the NCAA tournament begins all because of the CCHA championship.

“We won’t be able to move it back,” Pletsch said. “TV gets locked in, and the NCAA made it clear that once we had a schedule, we had to keep it.”

Pletsch said that the league considered playing semifinal games on Thursday and the title game on Saturday but said, “If you look at how the Super Six was, you saw that it was difficult to get fans to the rink for Thursday’s games.” The CCHA played a six-team championship tournament, the Super Six, from 2002 to 2005.

There is no third-place game this year, either, since the championship game begins at 2 p.m. that Sunday. “The NCAA told us we had to be done by 4:30,” Pletsch said. “Playing at 2, you can’t have a game at 10 in the morning before that for third place.”

  6. I think based on the result Sunday the lineup will remain fairly consistent. OD will stay on the top line, Rocco the second, and after the way he played Drake can't come out of the lineup.

Question to ponder: I know Hak wants to spread out the scoring, but does he feel that with Kristo-Knight-and Rocco together that line is more of a defensive liability because of their lack of size? This topic has been beaten to death, but the best Kristo and Knight have looked all year was when Rocco was with them. I mean last year the three best forwards played on that same line basically all year. After them it was gravy if any other line scored.

In the end, I trust Hak. He makes the tough calls, I'm on a computer, his hockey knowledge far outduels mine.

Rocco has gotten some penalty kill time so I dont think Hak believes Rocco is a defensive liability. Im sure OD would be more of a defensive liability than Rocco.

  7. not liking the top line, od only has 8 points on season. yeah, scary... not. it's a two man show out there. od doesnt derserve to be on top line. hak has been messing with the lines all season. rocco needs to make a pass if someone is there. tape to tape. a few times on the pp i noticed he made a pass away from a player, and sometimes they are two hard

  8. Observations:

    1. Passing was just lazy. No zip to them and by the time someone received a pass MTU player was on them. The lazy passing killed the power plays. A good power play needs crisp passes.

    2. UND players do not go to the puck. They stand there and wait for the puck to come to them. Unfortunately, by then an MTU player had stepped in front of them (see #1) and intercepted the pass.

    3. When passes were made and got to the Sioux player, they were in the skates or too off target to handle.

    4. Gleason was horrible and coughed up the puck all night.

    5. Kristo needs to learn to play defense. He was a one way player all night long.

    6. This whole team needs to learn to shoot the puck ON NET!. Grimaldi is the worst one on this but others are doing the same thing. There ware way too many wide open nets being missed.

    7. All night long MTU baited the Sioux into passing into a trap and then slammed the door.

    8. Kristo makes the exact same move time after time trying to skate around someone. They have figured it out and play the body and shut it down.

    9. Knight has essentially shut down offensively for some reason. Not only is he not scoring goals, he isn't even setting up others.

    10. Way too much trying to skate up the ice one on two or three. A good breakout is accomplished by passing. Get it into the zone with speed and a whole line flying up the ice. I don't think that happened once in this game.

    11. Grimaldi is making way too many blind passes without looking.

My thoughts tonight is this team is playing like a group of individuals and not like a team.

This drives me nuts. He has done this way to often and the puck ends of going the other way. The kid can't act like the players are gonna be there. Plus a lot of his passes are pretty hard and not on target. Noticed that on the pp in the 3rd.

  9. RT @Buccigross:" Send your best to Minnesota State's @djohnstone21 Broken clavicle, bruised lungs, bruised ribs, & separation of sternum after hit last nite"

Wow..hope he make a quick recovery! But he is pretty lucky to have been hit in the head this hard and have all these injuries......but not have any head or neck injuries....he is very lucky!

EDIT: I think we all know he meant Michigan Tech.

hmmmm no head injury. well isnt that interesting. stupid refs

  10. Per Brad's blog

"Shattuck-St. Mary’s sensation Nathan Noel is scheduled to be visiting campus this weekend. Noel, a 1997-born forward, is being mentioned as the possible No. 1 overall pick in the QMJHL draft."

  11. You shared it with Jan and you know it!!!

More Sioux fans would be hating on you I think, but we're too busy going elbow to elbow with ourselves. I picked Minnesota to win the league. Too much returning talent, and a good young goalie.

I hate the gophers like I hate work on Monday morning. But congrats, your team got it done in the regular season.

im sure Mariucci is trying to get a reaction from us. why? i dont know. scsu won it too. nothing else to do i suppose.

  12. UND needs to have a better game overall. They got outshot 40-20. Yuck. They only registered 2 shots alone in the first. The turnovers is another thing they need to watch for. MSU had some of their own, which we capatilized on, but not as many as us I don't think. If UND plays the way they did defensively against DU on Sat. and pucks go in, it should be a W.
