  1. if the nodak camp would man up and admit their choice came in 3rd and should be out of the running and vote RR this will be done forever....fighting hawks definetly and nodaks maybe would come under scrutiny and potential change in the next 10 years....

I have no problem admitting my choice came in third. If Kelley would have allowed only 2 names on the ballot, I would have chosen one of those 2. Since he is allowing 3, I will "man up" and choose the name I want Nodaks! I wouldn't be surprised if none of these names lasts. This process is doing nothing but dividing the fan base!

  2. I'm not sure that is really the case. I've seen plenty of people in these forums that are fans of the Nodak name, that are still disgusted with him constantly changing the way is being done. I'm not a fan of what he is doing, but I'm still going to vote for the name I like best, which is Nodaks. If it goes to a second runoff (which it should, but probably won't), then I'll vote for whichever name IS NOT fighting hawks.

I agree. I voted Nodaks, but I think Kelley should have stayed with the process he originally laid out. Since he didn't, why shouldn't I vote for the name I want- Nodaks.

  3. I'm voting Nodaks. I can't support the same name as a HS down the road, which I graduated from. Talk about unoriginal. This whole mess is so disappointing! IMO There would not have been this kind of devisiveness had ND been on the ballot. what a    S-show!

  4. d a co-worker tell me why she was hoping Fighting Hawks would win.  Reason number one:  This logo.  Reason number two:  Fans could shout Fighting Sioux, when Announcer says Fighting Hawks.

You just stated the only 2 reasons I could live with FH if it can't be Nodak.

  5. I'm just downplaying how much sway the current students have...there are obviously a lot more alumni out there and they will vote for the nickname that will be something we can be proud of and will make UND $$$$$$$$$$$$$$...not swayed by brad berry, brad s, tom dennis, or anyone else...they (i) will vote/d on what is best for und not a stick it to the man vote or the trendy name trending on twitter...

I don't really think many Alumni will vote on the name that will make UND money, I don't think that's a big consideration. As far as a name we can be proud of..........that ship has sailed!

  6. Looking ahead to the run-off (which I think we will need), I think the two names that will survive the initial round of voting are Roughriders and Nodaks (Fighting Hawks has fallen out of contention). My thinking is that the Fighting Hawk and North Star voters will swing over to Roughriders and the Sundog voters will swing over to Nodaks. That should give Roughriders the edge in the run-off, as I believe there will be more voters in the Hawks/North Star camp than in the Sundog camp.

    Prediction:

    60% Roughriders

    40% Nodaks

What do you exactly base this on? Do you have a crystal ball? Seriously, how do you know which name the FH or NS voters will choose?

  7.

I am picking NoDaks in the hope we can add "Fighting" before it to make it flow better with "University of North Dakota." This is the choice that does the best job of honoring the past (Fighting Sioux) while representing the current and the future. Whether we are Sioux, Ojibwe, Arikira, European, African, etc... we are all NoDaks if we support University of North Dakota Athletics. I don't think the name brings along a negative connotation and there can be creative logo possibilities created in conjunction with the interlocking "ND." In reality, they will always be the Fighting Sioux to me. It was engrained in me since I was very young. But if I must choose, I will pick the name that best represents who we are and also pays respect to the past. NoDaks is the only clear cut choice in that regard.

    Well said!

  8. As much as you are trying to be funny, this is the reason the majority of people support the "no nickname" option.  Look at the pictures from rally to support the North Dakota option...the was wearing a Sioux hockey jersey!!   Groups like The Sioux Were Silenced are in support of the no nickname option.  What does that tell you?  So as much as you laugh and make fun of everyone else labeling "no nickname" supporters as "Sioux forever" supporters, the fact is that it is true for the majority.

So true!  The vast majority are still Sioux supporters.  We can embrace both the past and the present.

  9. Correct me if I am wrong, but the "Fighting" part of Fighting Sioux  wasn't officially part of the name for very long.  I feel like it was added in the 90's.

If "Fighting" can be add to Sioux, why couldn't it be added to Nodaks. If Fighting Nodaks were the option, I think it would win.

  10. I honestly didn't even pay attention to the list, because I was all North Dakota. We were never told at the get go it wasn't an option until it was removed in the last round. If it had been removed initially, I would have been more invested. I know I'm not the  only one that feels that way. I like the idea of something aerospace related, since we are such a big aerospace school. I seriously refuse to buy anything Sundog related. That's just embarrassing!

  11. So what magical name do you propose that meets the criteria? How does no nickname meet anything but unique?

The decision to not include no nickname was made by the committee. The president just awkwardly affirmed it.

That may be so, but do you really think that these 5 are the best we can do?  If they would have axed North Dakota right away instead of handling it the way they did, the sentiment would be a lot different IMO. As A No-nickname supporter, i feel deceived. They kept dangling the carrot when they really had no intention of letting it on the ballot. If I knew from the get go that ND was not an option, I would have felt different. The committee and Kelley has created the divide in the way this was handled. They want people to rally behind a nickname?  That's not the way to do it. People are ticked and they can look in the mirror for that. I love my University and I we need a new nickname. I don't feel any of these 5 are worthy.
