I was at the game last night. The Sioux chants were as loud as ever. Everyone has really embraced this fabulous new nickname. I was glad the annoucers said North Dakota and not FH. The only Hawks I heard all night was a couple of SCSU fans screaming "let's go Hawks". The many North Dakota fans around him just looked at him. Boy, do we love our new nickname!

Well done, I completely agree. I think using some aspects of the old logo will make this whole change easier fo people to accept.

That's way better than the eventual logo we'll get stuck with. I love how you didn't just plaster a headdress onto the birds head (Which is lazy and would probably piss off the NCAA), and incorporated those feathers into the actual body of the hawk. Definitely reminiscent of the Sioux head, I like it!!
I really like that one.!

If Kelly was the pres for a stretch in time without a forced nickname retirement and announcement of a replacement I'm thinking you would think positively about him and his legacy here. just my opinion
Oh really? Then why was there a large part of the UND faculty that had a vote of no confidence?

Even if we don't switch for a while, we should collect some ideas now so we can actually reserve the names. See my new name for this site thread.
No reason the change the name of this sight. Why can't we honor our past and keep it Sioux Sports. Everyone knows that is UND. Change it to Hawks something, and it could be 1 of how many schools.

Honest question(s) - this weekend at St. Cloud do the announcers refer to the Sioux as the Fighting Hawks, or do they just keep calling them North Dakota for now? Does UND tell them what to use? Even if UND told them to use North Dakota, could St. Cloud's announcers just go with the Fighting Hawks?
I'll make a request to anyone who's going to the game this weekend...if the in-game PA announcer mentions anything regarding Fighting Hawks over the PA system, will someone PLEASE give him a massive donkey punch to the back of the head...really hard?
I'll be happy to do that! I hope the "Home of the Sioux" is loud and proud.

The saddest part of this whole ordeal is that it seems like maybe 5-10% of people are truly excited about one of these options. The others are voting which they can tolerate. i can't tolerate either, therefore I didn't vote.

I can appreciate the use of Nodak Nation in trying to appease more people. A Concept that could be used regardless of what wins. If not used, in conjunction with the new logo, it is still something that could be used for marketing and merchandising purposes.
I would rather see a logo with the aviation theme. I like the Nodak nation though.

YES. You should decide which you dislike the least and vote for it -- the same as you do every time there is a presidential election.
Roughriders (I am told) is used by zero other universities. Yes, Red River uses it. If they were a national power in something year in and year out (at the HS level), where we would have an identity crisis, i would have second thoughts, but they're not, and i don't.Great, I'll vote for FH!

I have made the choice to abstain not because I am clinging to Fighting Sioux, but because I would just be voting for something I don't really care about at this point. The process has been a joke and I am extremely disappointed in each of the final 5 names but that doesn't change the fact that I will accept whatever is selected and support it.

Didn't know Nodak supporters were so thin skinned?
Why should I vote when I can't stand either option? If I had to vote, I would vote FH. I went to RR and having the same name is just plain stupid IMO.

Fighting Hawks it is I guess. Oh yay! Glad I stocked up on Sioux stuff! Before you all jump down my throat. I will still support the University and can still attend games, but I don't have to wear apparel with a name I can't stand. I'm pretty sure I won't be the only one!

Being proud to be known as the Fighting Sioux and always honoring and remembering that tradition is one thing. But there are people that will refuse to move on and acknowledge the new nickname that UND will adopt and will wear Fighting Sioux apparel and yell "Sioux" at games many years after a new name is selected. Those are the "Fighting Sioux Forever" fans that people are upset with.
Why would it be horrible to continue to yell the Home of the Sioux at hockey games? After all, Ralph Englestead built the REA as the home of the Sioux. They still call the store the Sioux Shop. IMO we can cheer using the new nickname, but why can't we yell SIOUX at the end of the NA to honor our past?

I can tell you at the SCSU series, there were no FH chants from UND fans, it was all Sioux and the "Home of the Sioux" was very loud. I would expect that to be off the charts tonight! At least I hope So.......
