And the extended joke is that if any of your DI teams perform as well over time as your current hockey team you won't have many DI scholarships to give
-
If by the end of the transition you mean 2014, then yeah, I'd agree that UND will probably be in a conference by then. To argue that UND will have (or expects strongly) a conference home soon, because they'll be in deep doo-doo if they don't isn't a very strong argument. Also where has UND had a positive reception from a conference? Other than Doug Fullerton, who should either be on a used-car lot or inside the beltway, I haven't heard anything other than hearsay.

The Bison logic isn't too shotty, with the exception that NDSU might be right there with UND and SDSU. Don't give Kupchella too much credit, I read a letter about 19 months ago that said UND might make the move for emotional reasons only. It could be that he did just that. I don't believe for a second that UND nor NDSU or SDSU has a conference invite waiting, that's nothing but a conspiracy theory in my book.

I think everyone is reading into Taylor's comments a little too much. It appears that NDSU is waiting for UND to be a DI counter before playing them in any sport. One condition is that athletes meet marginally higher standards than those for DII. Gene is thinking about NDSU's situation and he doesn't want to use the few non-DI games we have playing UND. GPAs I don't know, but NDSU football's APR is 947, higher than the DIAA average of 929; men's basketball 981! (933); women's basketball 950 (960)

I think that UND could almost certainly schedule Montana, the game would be in Missoula, though.
-
6 players leave a 80 player roster over two years and you believe that is a scandal?
-
I'm just a casual fan who made a mistake, your University embarassed itself by not staying up to date on the rules-there's a huge difference in magnitude-but thanks for the personal attack. I'm pretty confident in my statement about an aversion to DII scheduling, as I posted, feel free to double check it.
-
just calling him out. there was no reference to NDSU in my post.
-
I realize what you posted, and I disagree: it doesn't offset. DIAA is very status conscious and the playoff committee doesn't like DII games; they punish you for playing them. You can see for yourself if you review selection decisions the last few years-Poly got screwed big time in '04. You could also go to ags and start a thread there. NDSU with UND on the schedule would receive no consideration with more than three losses and probably would have to lose two or less. Considering they'd be playing a DIA they would have one extra game to lose.
-
I agree completely, but at ridiculous as it is that Wisconsin win was a big deal to a lot of people. If NDSU gets into the Mid-Con, I'd believe it has as much to do with that Saturday in January as anything else.
-
Way to boast, Northcountry. UND's only DI teams are embarassments in the classroom: Bad news for Northcountry you are in the 1st to 10th percentile for men's hockey and the 20th to 30th for women's..... That's a hell of a lot more funny than the Nick Nolte joke, but not in the ha-ha way.
-
I don't agree with that at all. I think that CSP is the last DII NDSU schedules unless we play UND. A DII/DIA combo might offset talent wise, but it doesn't impress the playoff selection committee.
-
Thought you guys might want to know: NDSU 478 students athletes 40 4.0s last fall 227 had 3.0's or above average gpa 3.03 men 3.13 women pretty comparable to UND now, and NDSU before its move there is no need to sacrifice scholarship during the move and I don't expect UND to do it.
-
PCM, if you could get to the bottom of the situation you'd have a pretty good book. I'd buy the first copy.
-
You're right on. Bison and Sioux fans like to pretend that there can only be one and that their institution is it. Also, UND is a land-grant as well. Those s-o-bs got land for the school of mine's back in the 1800's and I'm wondering if they don't have the space grant as well.
-
a) you'll need Juco transfers to fill your holes. good luck in winning, if you don't b) don't get so high and mighty with UND's admissions-plus policy. so you'll admit students in a probationary manner-not a big difference from how UND operated before. that really has little to do with athletics, the NCAA has their own rules which are tough enough c) Gene wasn't taking a shot at UND, he's pointing out that NDSU (nor any other DI institution) isn't going to be very interested in playing UND until they meet DI requirements; also, since you made the insinuation, please name some "D2 flunkies" that attended NDSU
-
Did I write UND, no. I wrote 'you guys' in reference to the posters on the board. While UND does sponsor hockey (never new that ) it obviously doesn't have much experience (or luck?) with reclassifying as exhibited by UND's inability to stay up to date with the change in declaration date of an institution's exploratory year. Of course maybe folks at UND are very good at repetitive tasks-such as repeating "we have hockey" whenever a NDSU fan is around- but aren't very good at reading comprehension or analysis. No more smack, I promise.

UND was broke three years ago!
-
IIRC, in addition to not being able to host events, any reference to the hostile/abusive nickname/logo/mascot is not allowed at NCAA events Also, UND will be allowed to compete for DII championships until they declare, so it would be through '07-'08 at least It would be a complete shame for UND athletes to have to face the challenge of traveling to post-season events they would have hosted otherwise and for UND fans not to be able to see their teams compete in Grand Forks, especially if UND prevails in their case. IMO, UND and the NCAA need to figure out the issue immediately
-
I don't see UND getting a formal invite to the GWFC until they formally declare they are moving DI, ie NCAA paperwork signed and delivered to Indianapolis. I'm sure they are already on the minds of every Great West AD. Despite what has been said by many parties, (hypothetically) NDSU would vote for UND to join their conference in almost any circumstance. With regards to admission to the Big Sky Conference, assume the likelihood is low and don't listen to a work Fullerton says. It could be a home for UND in the future, but given the current landscape it is not likely. If it happens you will be pleasantly surprised. Fullerton should be in politics not administration.
-
UND could almost surely get an away game at Montana-they don't like DIAA away games given the $$$ they make at home. UND could probably work a home and home with Montana State in a couple of years.
-
1) NDSU probably won't be playing UND in basketball until your first full year playing a full DI schedule, that would be 08-09 or 09-10, and I'd assume it would be the latter. 2) NDSU will not be playing UND in 2008 in football as you will still be DII in the eyes of DI (and DI in the eyes of DII) unless we are in the same conference that year. 3) I think a few of you guys should educate yourself on the transition process and the requirements of Division I before taking shots at anybody. I'd like to see us play earlier, especially in football, but I don't see it happening.
-
Don't think I've ever seen it in print, but WDAY has it on film. Gene basically said if NDSU wasn't in a conference in 18 months he should lose his job. I'm glad he didn't.
-
Taylor did.

I always thought that beggars can't be choosers. UND is now right in line with NDSU and SDSU.
