Yes, there was crap dispensed by more than one institution. And who said the crap distribution that was proportional?
-
And I'm just saying that there would is no foreseeable reason why UND would have to do that (in addition to taking things out of their intended context as had done) given the NCAA process for transition (ie exploratory year/first year transition).
-
So are you saying that it would be okay for UND to leave the NCC with less than 18 months notice if they had a conference invite? Northern Colorado didn't wait, didn't have a conference invite, and didn't receive 1/8th the crap that NDSU and SDSU did from conference members.
-
Forget this good neighbor crap. NDSU and SDSU stayed in DII an extra year hoping that a few more schools, if not the whole NCC, would make the move. All that happened was that they lost a year. At worst, after making its declaration to move UND would be in the NCC for at least one more year (it's exploratory year). That's more than enough time for the NCC to decide what it needs to do. It is possible, if not likely, that UND would play the majority of its first transition year games against DII opponents as well. (If their intent was to placate the NCC, this would be one way to do it)
-
Actually, it wouldn't make any difference as UND can stay in the NCC during its exploratory year. Or it could leave the conference and still play its schedule as a non-conference opponent (remember that UND would still officially be DII that year). If UND some how was offered membership in the Big Sky in 2007 (which I give the probability of .0001) then there would be a problem. But would they care? (I wouldn't if I were them). Basically UND can file for 2006/2007 to be its exploratory year by contacting the NCAA and tell the NCC it will be leaving the conference in 2007 OR it can delay the process for the next year (or later). Like I said, UND has to be pretty sure it will be making the transition when it declares its exploratory year as it will be tough to get the !@$! back in the horse afterwards.

The penalty for not following the NCC rule is only $35,000.

It really doesn't mean much, as a school can choose to remain in its current classification at the year's end and can (would) play a DII schedule. For a school like UND, the decision would be equivalent to making the move as staying DII would be quite damaging. I don't know if it has happened to a DII school in recent years, but there are a couple of HBCUs, at least one in Florida, that declared the move to DIA football, started making the transition, then stopped, and their athletic departments all but imploded. I wouldn't worry about the nickname thing, it's not a divisional issue, imo. Now scheduling, that is a different matter (though not in the exploratory year).

Thanks for adding to the discussion regarding UND's consideration of reclassification.

Then refer to the part on the back slash that states "be a consequence of".

It's a little over a month before the University Task Force makes its decision. I was wondering what people think will happen. My guess is that the task force will support a move to Divison I (with a number of caveats) and that UND will use '06/'07 as their exploratory year.

Honestly, what do you think UND's average attendance would be in DI not counting a NDSU game? 3,000 tops would be my opinion. Why would you want to play in the Ralph? Edited: and SDSU.
-
Agreed. I also don't know if they'd take UND and SDSU.
-
Butts in seats matter, dollars matter, facilities matter. Having a Taj Mahal for a sport that a conference doesn't sponsor isn't the best card in UND's hand, IMO. I think that you are confusing supply with demand.
-
I don't think I'd go quite that way. IMO if NDSU joined the Mid-Con, the Big Sky would no longer be interested in the Dakotas.
-
? Are you insane?
-
You honestly believe that? That's sad.
-
That's ridiculous.
-
I would be quite happy. 1) We would be in a conference. 2) We'd 'school' you in football until you got your team up to DIAA speed (if ever).
-
1. NDSU will gladly play UND during the transition. I'd imagine it would be a 2 for 1. Davis and Poly don't need to come to the Dakotas for another game. 2. The comment about UND doing what is best for UND is hogwash. ?I, too, miss playing NDSU - especially when we win. Pride and emotion are powerful enough sometimes even to overwhelm logic and other considerations. I recognize that we may have to make this move even though, ultimately it may make no otherwise logical or financial sense to do so ... but I'm getting ahead of myself." Who said that again? 3. I don't believe too much that Fullerton says. First, I don't want to get too excited. Second, even he admits he (and now a couple of ADs) see the benefit of a 12 team conference. Three, Doug regular informs people that Idaho is coming back to the Sky.
-
I agree completely petey. If UND hires a DI assistant.......
-
Heck, I'd be just as worried about NDSU. I wouldn't be surprised to see a loss of 1000 students as we get a lot of kids from that way. If BSC/U provided a well-rounded undergraduate curriculum and a few master's programs AND continue to provide vocational coursework they could reach 5,000 in my opinion, with 4,000 a near certainty.

I-AA West: University of North Dakota, It's Time to Move Up

No, Cratter. You called Ralph a liar. There is a big difference between the two. One that you obviously can't fathom. -

Though there's no way of knowing for sure, but I imagine that if NDSU was still DII, UND would be more happy than it is currently and that we wouldn't see a DI transition committee in Grand Forks. And I'd say yes, rivalry, or the perception of falling behind NDSU in anyway, whatsoever, is the main motivation for UND moving up. Call my opinion whatever you'd like. -

Thanks. Good to know you've got the facts.
