  1. LOL! He is a senior, boy I hope he was OK coming into fall camp and wasn't too weak from missing "valuable" summer time.

What you fail to understand is how embarrassingly low NDSU's discipline standards are. This is his THIRD arrest/misdemeanor in his career and he has never missed a game. Nothing. Leevon Perry gets a DUI and misses ONE game. These days, most schools suspend players one game for missing class check or spray painting a sign, or getting a minor.

He's a Junior. And yes, strength and conditioning are huge at any level. Bohl suspended him indefinitely as soon as he got the news. Once the facts came out and he was cleared of the worst of the charges AND after his plea of guilty to the resisting charge the suspension was lifted. It wasn't like he took off sprinting away from the police, he kinda hobbled away in handcuffs. Probably (not certainly) a combination of having a few drinks and getting hit in the head by a couple guys caused to poor judgement and/or confusion on his part (I had heard rumors he was concussed, but can't verify them).

As for the election fraud, well that was a really dumb thing that the players did. But the punishment (legal side of this argument) fit the crime and followed precedence set in 2008 for a similar case. As for team disciplinary action, I can see where others would see it as the team looking the other way. I can also see the point from the school: It didn't happen during the season, it wasn't an act of violence, it wasn't while representing the school or at a school event, etc...

Was their decision right? On Beck's absolutely without a doubt. On the election fraud I can honestly see both sides, but for the reasons listed above I understand the why of doing it the way they did (and I'd defend UND for doing the same thing).

But to call the whole team a bunch of criminals is kinda taking it to an extreme.

  2. Sorry about that... it was relevant only because it explained why hatred doesn't by itself mean a rivalry exists. I tried to spin it back on topic. Also, it was directly in relation to Haydukes "you certainly have a way with women, don't you" comment. So I REALLY think that his was far more personal than mine. Mine was an explanation of an earlier post, his was a direct personal attack of my character. I didn't post any of the 3rd parties names, nor will I. So, I am going to respectfully ask that Hayduke's post be removed as well.

  3. As for the "team full of criminals" I was disappointed with the petition crap. It was stupid, but only a misdemeanor. I got in more trouble than that when I was a senior in high school but my scholarship to a much bigger university than anything in the Dakota's wasn't pulled. That doesn't excuse the behavior by any means, and players were suspended depending on their role/involvement. Now, if you are going to try and talk about Travis Beck.... he did absolutely nothing other than defend himself and would have beaten the fleeing/resisting charge but would have had to go to trial and disrupt the season a bit so he pled guilty and moved on. Beck missed almost all of the summer workout as he was suspended for most of it and spent the time at home helping his dad farm. The rest of the team worked out every week except for the 4th of July week. So even though he didn't miss any game time he did miss a ton of valuable strength/training time....which is about the amount of punishment he deserved for what he did/admitted guilt of (resisting).

  4. They still get an AQ for the dance don't they? (Honestly I don't know... I don't follow basketball at all) So long as that is still true and if they have a decent team does it really matter? Losing in the first round of the dance has got to be better publicity than losing the big sky (or any other conference for that matter) tournament and not making it into march madness.

  5. You have a good point until you take into account that SDSU doesn't draw crowds much bigger than us. Lone exception is when they play you guys.

^^^ That last one cracks me up... it was a playoff game^^^

You guys only broke 10,000 people once last year. SDSU AVERAGED 11843 people including that dismal attendance on Nov 24. UND averaged 8912 people (again according to wikipedia) in 2012. So only 1.3 times as many people per game. Congrats, you went toe-to-toe with them.

The Alerus seats ~13000 people so you kept it 69% full (and it's indoors, no need to complain about crappy weather keeping fans away)

The CAS seats ~15000 people and they kept it 79% full outdoors

  6. I'm talking about fan support.. Face it only football matters at NDSU. And for some hockey matters at UND, but it's funny how it's Bison fans that constantly rip on UND fans about attendance when they know football is #2 at UND. I never see a stage when I see DI volleyball on tv, so maybe pump some money into that program and you can fill that kiddie gym. I also almost crapped myself when I went to the UND-NDSU game las year at the benson bunker field house. I was like am I at NDSU or my kids elementary school.

That would be a better argument if UND hockey were being played already when you played Montana last week, SDSU 2 weeks ago and MSU this week. No hockey in town, no excuse not to come out to see the football team.

  7. So when are the other athletic programs at FU going to move on as well? Did someone not give them the memo?

Honestly, I don't care about most of the other sports. I've attended a few wrestling matches and a baseball game. Basketball bores me to tears regardless of who is playing. If they want to play UND, I don't care. You and I both know that the rivalry/hatred was built on the football field. I've heard that the number of people showing up for the NDSU v UND basketball games has been decreasing as well since they restarted so that is further proof to me that the rivalry is not what it once was. I'd rather watch UND hockey than any other sport that NDSU offers (aside from football of course).

However, others may not share my point of view on the other sports. But consider that there are only 11 total games in a typical FB season and our fanbase would be PISSED if we didn't have: 6 home games PLUS an FBS game every year and getting a home & home contract between the two schools is unlikely. Now, if UND wants to come down and collect a check next year, I have no problem with that, I just don't think we NEED the return trip at this point in our program. Other programs have way more games and way more openings on the schedule.

  8. I just posted this same thing on bisonville, I think it hits the nail on the head on how I (and perhaps others) view UND Football with regard to rivalry.

Since when do you need to HATE your rival? I have rivals at work that I think very highly of, they motivate me to be better by being good themselves. I wish them no ill will but I want to beat their sales numbers every single week.... and the competition is fierce. Even beyond that I have rivals at competing insurance companies that I know very well (I trained some of them) that I also want to beat every time I am head to head with them on competitive bids. On things that we don't compete on I wish them the best.

That is exactly how I treat SDSU (and SHSU for that matter). UND I have an absolute hatred for and I want them to fail at everything (except this week against MSU) football related. But just because I hate them doesn't make them my rival. I hate my ex-wife but I don't consider her a rival because I know that no matter how hard she tries she'll never have what I have and she now knows that she made a bad mistake by parting ways with me (she's filed bankruptcy 2 times in the past 13 years... that is the tip of the iceberg of her !@#$ ups however). So in a way I think of UND much like I think of my ex-wife: Some bitch that once had a meaningful purpose in my life but since I've moved on I'm glad I don't have to put up with her !@#$ anymore. But it's still fun rubbing it in her face when good !@#$ happens to me.

  9. http://www.inforum.com/event/article/id/412996/group/Sports/ I don't think this has been posted yet but the last paragraph is pretty encouraging: “We’ll make it a yearly stop if everything falls into place,” Fitting said. “North Dakota State will not fall off our radar. Again, one of the all-time best spots.”

Apparently the ESPN producer made the comment that they will be back in Fargo. Did you hear the comment that NDSU is the state's football team and that UND is the state's hockey team.

That is a fair statement at this point of both programs.

  10. Per McFeeley first Sioux Suck S**t chant was at 6:05 this morning when a UND fan entered the pit. Reading that made me think of this thread.

Sadly that chant did start. Was quickly squashed (less than 5 seconds) but did rear it's ugly head once or twice more.

  11. I'm still befuddled as to why the SDSU coaching staff went away from Zenner in the fourth quarter. At the beginning of the quarter after his TD he needed only 14 yards to tie his record and thats all he had the rest of the game. Had SDSU managed to let this one slip through their fingers the head man would have had to answer some tough game management questions.

I was rather confused about that as well. Didn't seem like SDSU really cared about clock management and it almost came back to bite them in the ass. Congrats to the UND team and staff for taking advantage of this and making it into a close game. I didn't think it would be as close as it was.

I was rather conflicted about who to cheer for being an NDSU fan as neither team are on my "favorites" list so I went with our conference mate.

I will be cheering (and it REALLY pains me to say that) for you guys against Mt State though.

  12. Zenner wants to be an orthopedic surgeon. He's a top student. He's the kind of guy that if he lived next door to you, tomorrow he'd be playing football in your backyard with your seven-year old kid (and the seven-year old would win).

Zenner is a great athlete and seems like a good guy. Glad to see him having success again this year.

  13. But to seriously believe that a winning record in the Big 10 or Big 12 is truly delusional. Those teams have way too much depth in speed, talent and size. After a few games an FCS team would be decimated at enough positions that they would accumulate loss after loss.

I agree, please note my earlier retraction of said statement.

  14. Und hockey could compete with and beat any team at a similar level as them whether it is NCAA d1, Canadian college, or chl. Ndsu football cannot compete against even average fbs teams....this will be proven in the Kansas st game.

The only problem with your statement is that only one of our teams has a chance to prove it. I'm NOT guaranteeing a victory in Manhattan but I won't be shocked by one either.
