  1. Does this sound like it was intended for supporting athletic scholarships?

    SECTION 6.

A new section to chapter 15-10 of the North Dakota Century Code is created and
    enacted as follows:
    Definition.
For purposes of this Act, projects dedicated to the advancement of enhanced academics
include investments in research, scholarship, technology, endowed chairs, and investments in
educational infrastructure, not to include new capital construction projects.

Yes, because while the student athlete is granted a scholarship based on their on-field performances, they are ultimately in school to earn an education.  Most athletes won't go on to play as a pro, but most will get their degree.  Also, the scholarships are contingent on maintaining a certain GPA (Not sure what GPA is required to be honest with you.... it's been a LONG time since I was talking athletic scholarships with anyone... but 2.5 seems stuck in my head)

  2. In their defense, there isn't really anything for a donor to donate to at NDSU that would do any good in advancing academics.  Saying that, I predict that absolutely nothing will happen.  The fact that Port brought it up makes it even less likely to get any attention as the guy and his blog have zero credibility.  He's a political bomb thrower know for his hatred of higher education and thus has marginalized himself.  UND might as well start doing this same thing.   NDSU plays fast and loose with the rules constantly and suffers zero repercussions.

I agree with everything but the last line.  But we will just agree to disagree on that as neither will change the others mind.

  3. One recruiting scenario where it might be difficult to portray it as a cause for celebration is when your program is reduced to having to poach verbal commits from a lower-division program or programs in the last two weeks before signing day just to fill out a class. This is purely a hypothetical, mind you.  :whistling:

You realize that happens at nearly all FBS schools right?  They size up the amount of schollies they have left and fill holes where they can.  That can/does mean poaching lower level verbals.

Congrats though, you guys were recruiting players that some in the FBS thought were talented enough to deserve a scholarship at their level. (no sarcasm intended)

  4. And yes, there are teams that have moved on and moved up. I get that. That doesn't mean that all the sudden they took all the talent out of this level. Far from it. Though I suppose you could argue that bringing in cellar dwellers like UND and USD did cheapen things a little.

  5. IRA & TJAMZ: THE PERSONAL MESSAGE CENTER WOULD BE A BETTER AVENUE TO CONTINUE YOUR CONVERSATION. IT DOESN'T SEEM TO BE ON TOPIC TO THE THREAD.

I agree and I apologize for the derailment.

  6. Ahhh so your the one who hired 2011BisonAlumni.   So do either of you actually post on BV.......or do you just come on here instead because things are more interesting or something.

Never met 2011BisonAlumni, but I do have both UND & NDSU Alumni working for/with me (along with USD & SDSU, Concordia, MSUM, etc...)  All good people and hard workers so I can't complain about that

I'm on here sporadically, this will be my 164th post since April 2, 2012.  So in the past 995 days I've posted about .17 times per day.

On Bisonville I have been on since October 31, 2011 and have 1366 posts.  In my time there I have posted on average about 1.19 times per day so I post there about 7 to 1.

I admittedly come here for the drama and to occasionally trade jabs in good fun.  I may not like UND sports teams all that much, but I don't particularly hate anyone just for attending UND.  Nor do I fault them for going there, especially if it is a degree that they can't get elsewhere in the state.  Doesn't mean I won't trade friendly verbal jabs with them from time to time.

  7. You have a source for this?  There was an accreditation visit with some "dings" that was publicized, but those "issues" will all be taken care of.  Surely, the people in charge of preparing for this visit have learned a few things for next time.

Research Smart Rank:  110 out of 157  (Below Average)

Primary Care Smart Rank:  148 out of 157 (Damn near the worst)

MCAT Score:  29 out of 45 (3 points below average)

Overall Rank:  124 out of 157 (well below average and in the bottom 1/3)

  8. Listen Sparky, I'll fill you in on a couple of things. Most importantly we have had, and always will have, an academic advantage that makes a difference with kids who have the idea that obtaining a degree, then getting a job is an important consideration. You are the perfect example. A "2011 BisonAlumni" ( some might say alumnus) who graduated in 2011 and who still has enough time to converse on a blog of what is supposed to be an irrelevant college team, either doesn't have a job yet, or your job is such that it is irrelevant to your employer. The Ag school has done a good job lately but you should rest easy at night knowing that you have had nothing to do with that success. Because of that sad fact you seem to improve your lot in life by trying to make someone else feel badly about themselves or their teams. Sparky, that is a sad reflection on what your degree has done for you or to you. I would expect a 2011 UND grad to have been promoted in their job as an accountant, engineer, businessman or woman, pilot, teacher, entrepreneur, nurse, ..... Most get the picture. What happens to your FB team should be fun and a great time to party and see old friends. For you who seem to have nothing better to do with your life, you are missing out if this is what makes you feel good. When we recruit kids we can tell them the fact that UND grads have great success after FB as CEO's, and astronauts, and doctors and lawyers and farmers and teachers who have done great things after attending UND. We can show them your blogs and tell those student athletes they could also go to the AC and maybe blog the rest of their lives.

Interesting take.  Though I wholeheartedly disagree.  Even though this wasn't directed at me, I'll play along.

I also have plenty of time to converse on an irrelevant college football teams website, yet I do have a job.  I'm a Regional Manager for one of the top 25 largest security companies in the United States.  On top of that I own an insurance agency, autostart installation company and recently started selling my own brand of car audio amplifiers (hobby that turned into a business) to car stereo shops throughout the United States, Canada and New Zealand.  On top of that I coach my sons sports teams and help care for my 3 month old daughter alongside my wife. Yet I still manage to find time every day to waste away on message boards, twitter, facebook, etc...

None of these "jobs" are hard, nor are they time consuming.  But they are all insanely profitable.  I directly manage/employ 37 people full time.  Most of whom also would have time to "waste" on message boards while still earning a great salary.

  9. Wow, sorry CAS, but gotta play spelling police here. An attorney should be able to spell "admittedly" correctly, or at least believe the spell-check program when it tries to fix it for him.

Seems like you have a lot of pent-up issues that have built up during your brief absence from ss.com.

On the colored font idea, maybe ss.com should use that yellow color Bison fans are so fond of to alert them to sarcasm.

On the spelling issue, I assumed it was because his law degree came from UND...

  10. Colin Cowherd, an EWU alum, was at the EWU-Sam Houston St game and he talked as if EWU would move up as a result of their Gateway Project stadium expansion.

    http://www.spokesman.com/stories/2014/aug/23/espns-cowherd-returns-to-take-in-ewus-wow-moment/

Bison fans need to go on gameday and tell how stupid Cowherd is for believing the EWU can be FBS.  It simply isn't possible, according to them.   :whistling:   Bison fans know what is best for Big Sky schools.  There is no way that 31 networks need football programming.   :xmas:

Geographically EWU is in a great spot and has a very real chance of moving to FBS.  My guess is MWC for them though.  They'll need to up funding and add some sports, but they are one of the schools I could see moving in the next 5 to 10 years.

  11. So, how has UND done VS NDSU this year in sports:

    Mens Cross Country:  NDSU

Womens Cross Country:  NDSU UND (I was confused by the total times and average times not even thinking about scoring based on places

    Womens Soccer:  NDSU

    Volleyball:  NDSU

The rest of the games have yet to be played (obviously, early in the school year) and I fully expect that UND will win some and NDSU will win some.  Goes with the territory.  But SO FAR this year:  NDSU leads 3 to 0correction 2 to 1

    Edited for accuracy.

    Currently 3 to 1

  12. Oh please tell me why...

Honestly, I don't want the negative exposure that BOTH fanbases will have due to this game.  You and I both know that UND fans will show up in their former mascot gear.  There will be heckling back and forth.  One will start singing "On the plains" the other will counter with "F the Bison" (or vice versa) and it will go back and forth until it turns into a "_ Suck !@#$" non-stop chant.  They media will pick apart both schools.  UND for not letting go of their past logo which THEY (not me) think is hostile and abusive and NDSU for being racially insensitive.  It doesn't matter what you guys call yourselves going forward as your fan base will forever know you as the Sioux and the Bison will always say you suck.  No win situation.

EDIT:  As far as quality goes, right now (at this point of this year) I have you both in about the same spot.

  13. Must be more highly anticipated than a rivalry game for the Bison.

Big Sky OOC Game > NDSU's Main Football Rivalry

Admittedly I am more excited to play Montana than SDSU.  I'm less excited to play UND next year than Incarnate Word this year though.  Having said that I'm sure ticket prices will be higher for UND due to demand.

Also, is it possible that NDSU knows that Montana fans would try and buy GA tickets to the game due to their traveling fan base and are trying to capitalize on that?  Same will be true of UND next year.  70ish miles away and a lot of fans in the FM area already so it will be easy to justify them due to the opposing fan bases demand.  SDSU doesn't travel nearly as well as Montana hence the lower ticket price.

  14. Not sure anyone counts cross country scores as an actual team sport, but if you really want to, you might want to recheck that women's cross country score....

And I feel pretty confident the overall scoreboard will be even after tonight (using the actual results, not the incorrect ones someone posts on a message board).

    North Dakota 26 3 4 5 6 8 12 13
     Total Time: 1:38:06.02
     Average: 19:37.21

     North Dakota State 29 1 2 7 9 10 11 14
     Total Time: 1:37:44.42
     Average: 19:32.89

Though I do see that UND did get a "1" and NDSU a "2" in the team scores even though NDSU had a ~22 second faster total time for the team and ~4.5 second average time per individual.

I consider CC a sport as much as Track & Field, Swimming, etc....

  15. An out of conference game costs more than their "rivalry" game with South Dakota State? That can't be true!  :whistling:

Highly anticipated OOC game.  As a season ticket holder I hope that next years UND game will be Siouxper expensive as well.  Mostly just to see you guys complain.
