Cracking down on punishments for students for using profane language/drinking etc. The increased dependency on technology(ie smartphones) for incoming freshman classes every year.
Look, I understand the desire to transition to the Hawks nickname logo but making things up like "The Ralph will be great again" if we all buy new hawk gear and do screech cheers isn't helping the cause. It's similar to people saying we won a national championship last year because we dropped the Sioux name... no we won because we had an incredible team.
You beat my edit. I just added to my post because it read like I was suggesting that was the cure-all and I didn't mean it that way. My bad on that.
You're 100% correct on smartphones, etc... I think either allowing liquor in seats or closing the bars would be huge too. Interesting to pay that much for a ticket and hang out in the bar all game where you can't see the ice... Maybe I have a different perspective since I drive 5 hours for games though. -

I think the atmosphere is a shell of its former self. It turns into a church for minutes at a time.Edit for clarification: I don't think it's nearly most or half or majority reason. People being disengaged is the problem for me, but ever since the nickname went away stuff, you don't get the intimidating, entire stadium in unison cheers that I remember. Some people don't or only half-heartedly join in on "Let's Go Sioux"; a lot of people won't dare to cheer for the H word in that building for ridicule.... I just think that part sucks.
One of my favorite Ralph memories was a pretty low key moment in the scheme of things. Kinda of a horsecrap call against our favorite team, Duluth douche like 7 seats away from me stands up taunting the call and the fans... an angry flavored Let's Go Sioux chant fires up, and Duluth douche starts doing an "oh, I'm so scared" kinda bit... They entire arena gets behind it, and Duluth douche is still talking, but I can't hear him 7 seats away because the cheer is so thundering. I remember looking at the ice and see Duluth players looking up like, "what the hell is this?"
I just don't think we get that anymore with a mixed identity.-

I hated it when it was picked. I was as big of Roughrider guy as there was out there. I like it now. I cheered let's go hawks in Salt Lake City this past weekend. I have a couple shirts now, and I think the logo looks sharp on them.
I legitimately think the Ralph's atmosphere will be "great again" when there's more acceptance of the nickname.

is the NCAA streaming this game? I haven't decided if I'm gonna be bold enough to just bounce from work without telling anyone at 2 PM, so I might just pretend to do stuff for the first period while watching the stream.

Some complain on here about "usher Nazi's", I for one would love they kept doing this! I cannot stand when I pay $120 per seat and a group of dumbass dog fans just walked in and grabbed the 5 empty seats behind us, bragging how "this is not bad for spending $20" Everything would have been fine if they just cheered for their team. I was with my wife, two teenage daughters and my 70+ year old parents, (boy these trips have changed) and when Cam got plowed into I stood up and yelled "come on throw him out"! This tough guy behind me said "quit your f**king whining" I turned around and looked at him he then turned his head away. I then looked back at the ice and he then said "yea I was talking to you, shut the f**k up". Turned around again and said you're a real hero back there. He turned his head again. My daughter was texting her friend saying these guys are dicks behind us, they asked her why she wrote that! They were reading her phone behind her! When the dogs scored they would lean forward into my old man's ear and cheer even after he politely asked them to not do it in his ear! Their comment was "you can't cheer when your team scores then". If they were obnoxious and loud but did NOT target us I would have had no problems with it. If this was 5+ years ago when I went with a group of buddies, this would have been a row on row brawl, Guaranteed!
The point of my story is, I would not have had to deal with it if they were asked to show their ticket before entering the section!
Talk about want to be goofer fans! God I hate the UMD hockey EVERYTHING now!
So happy they are going to Fargo, hope this game happens!

That really sucks to hear that. I know I can get rowdy, but I make a concerted effort to reign it in around particular crowds. Did they have an in game number to text for complaints?
