Off campus arenas are not ideal. Only as a placeholder until the on campus arena is built. UNO said until they built Baxter teams recruiting against them won the battles by mentioning they played off campus.

They also practiced off campus though right?  Building a practice arena on campus and playing games off campus would be viable I'd think.  Especially in areas without much hockey, like at BGSU, where the practice arena could also be used as a community rink to generate revenue.  Would be simlar to UND and NDSU for football.

Thought there was one in Fort Worth, now I know

Would love to see your list at some point.  I can probably help with some you could be missing.

Really bugs me that hockey and Nevada is never mentioned, whatsoever, in the discussions about the new arena they are building there.

Mine would be San Jose State, they already play at the Sharks/Barracuda facility.

The Sharks have one pretty well known super fan who could be interested in helping to fund the team...

I'd like to see them move up.

I've been making a list of schools and nearby arenas when I'm bored. For example, the Dallas area schools have two arena options in Allen and Frisco TX.

Idk if they played in Lee's Family Forum but I'm very sure they didn't play at the America First Center (Silver Knights practice facility).

I posted it on here, I want to say the head coach was talking about the arena partnership with the Golden Knights, might have been America First Center when it was being built.

oops!  My mistake.  I was thinking of the Silver Knights - it was Lee's Family Forum.  They played Alaska Anchorage there actually.

Sounds like UNLV is wanting to play in a bigger arena than City National Arena for their first game this year.

UNLV and Tennessee State were supposed to play each other

I'm always hearing about the Golden Knights building or planning to build a new arena in Vegas. There was the talk between the team and the Golden Knights about an arena closer to UNLV that UNLV would use but was going to cost the team too much.

They've played at the new arena in Henderson in the past.  There are a lot of arenas in vegas already... suprising to me that the Golden Knights would even think about that.

Maryville had their feasibility study done in 2018, the school he was talking about is in the process of doing one.

Illinois State is another that is an area that needs a team and fits what he was talking about when it comes to D1 schools (with football).

Illinois State would kill it and they would eventually be a great fit for the NCHC imo.

Feel like they're one big donation from the Golden Knights, KEM, or another donor away from going D1. Not sure what KEM's relationship is with UNLV now, I know the Engelstad Foundation had stopped funding UNLV in the recent past.

I feel like Arizona is in a simlar boat.  Apparantly Sean Engelstad went there, and Sean Hogan (College Hockey Inc Director) coached there and he said he bugs them about it every year.  Plus they have the new arena coming on board, and the Roadrunners are likely headed to Reno, plus they have the ASU rivalry and can see ASU's success.

Of course.... football, basketball, and money will continue to be an issue.

As for a suprise school, Roosevelt and Austin Peay are my guesses.  Perhaps UMKC if they include hockey in the arena they are building, but I doubt it.  All they have to do is look up the road though and see how UNO created a niche for themselves in a similarily competetive market.  He could have also been thinking of Maryville as a suprise school.  IPFW and IUPUI both also have nearby arenas that would work well and both schools would be great for college hockey geographically, but I doubt those schools have the gumption.

Need to get actual replica Adidas jerseys with the player’s number and nameplate. I can appreciate the attempt, as I suppose they are better than nothing, but need better quality if the general public - and not just the players’ families - will purchase …

100% agree.  They arent good enough.

After finishing outdoor track and field facility, the extra practice courts attached to the Betty and a permanent reconfiguration of the seating in the Betty should be the next priorities for the Athletic Department.

Pipe dream of mine is to shrink the olympic ice sheet to nhl size, which I think would create 15 ft of space savings (100 -> 85ft ice width?).

Perhaps if they shrunk the ice sheet, they could create a concourse area behind the permanent east side seating, and along with a new 2nd north side entrence, it could somehow be tied in to new permanent seating on the northern end  (which could include a new club/sports bar area).

This would make it so people don't have to walk around or IN FRONT of the seating behind either basket - seating could be much closer, and with the new practice courts, portable seating wouldnt have to be moved so frequently (if even needed).

Shrinking the ice sheet could also allow for the player areas to be exanded within the current footrint.

Also, given that all of the college hockey programs will soon be at or near NHL dimensions, the olympic sheet has become obsolete.  If it were an nhl sheet, the hockey team could practice there if needed, and this new flexibility would make it more viable to play some basketball games at the ralph again.  This could potentially help to significantly increase basketball revenue which would enable the school to attract occasional buy games vs bigger branded opponents.  Beimg able to play a team like Alabama at the big ralph would have generated a ton more money from clubs, suits, concessions, video board ads, etc.

The plan is $10 million for 20 rinks at $500k per rink.

So, I was thinking could Utah, Weber, Utah State, BYU, and UVU get a cut of the $500k to help build a NCAA caliber arena? One of the interesting things I've heard is all the rinks in Utah are Olympic size because of the 2002 Olympic games. Utah is in the process to replace Jon M. Huntsman Center where I've seen suggested in a Utah State message board that they would make the arena able to have hockey to get some Olympics money. I guess it's going to be built by the Rice-Eccles Stadium. The Utah club team currently plays across the street from the football practice facilities. Weber State has a nice arena (Olympic curling venue) (2,000), Utah State has the George S. Eccles arena (2,000), and UVU plays at Peaks (2,500) but wouldn't be surprised they end up playing at the new Mammoth practice facility.

Utah, Colorado, Nevada, and Arizona will be interesting if they see how ASU is doing, and they make the jump. Still waiting to hear more on the new arena in Greeley.

Doe anyone else think it looks like a sheet of ice would fit perfectly into Utah Valley's arena?  image.jpeg.3bfc1bcce5b897243d73ab5ccfe0c022.jpeg

UND receives NO commission from sales made by Game One Stores!!  Do not buy from them!!

Pretty sure those purchases go towards UND's spending requirements, and UND gets incentives based on UND's total game one spend.

the big stink conf is unbelievable....the current pres i think of dixie state is the same guy that when pres of utah southy told the bsc they were just too good for them and left for the wac and now the big stink takes them both/back when the wac kicks em out....

    crazy

I think Utah Tech's AD is the one who got SUU into the Big Sky originally, and he wasn't there when SUU left the Big Sky.  I could be wrong, because I didn't check to verify that, but I don't think you did either.

According to sources on X it sounds like:

    1) WAC is kicking out the Utah schools (SUU and U-Tech both Big Sky bound).

New Big Sky:  EWU, UI, ISU, UM, MSU, PSU, Weber St, UNC, UNA, SUU, U-Tech.  Cal Poly UC-Davis football only - 11 schools/13 football

    2) All ASUN football schools moving over to the WAC with a rebrand to UAC.  8 schools/7 football

UAC:  UT-A, Tarleton St., ACU, UCA, WGA, N. Alabama, EKU, Austin Peavy

I wonder what happens when Tarleton St leaves?

    Might be tempting for ORU

Is the outdoor track being installed this summer or has that project been pushed out?

Unless you know something, it looks like it will be done this summer.

According to this March 2025 article, "...the region’s unmanned and autonomous systems sector expects to see another 500 to 1,000 jobs in the next five years, a field well-suited for airmen of the unmanned aircraft-operating 319th."

    https://www.grandforksherald.com/news/economic-development-officials-hoping-to-draw-more-airmen-to-grand-forks

On the low end, 500 jobs could theoretically grow the population by 1,250

Would be nice if there was a golf facility that allowed people to hit balls outside in the winter.  Might help to attract workers who like golf.
