  1. As long as we're going back to the 60's, we may as well go all the way back. 7>5...bottom line

PLUS...I believe 17 years is a few less than 23 years...if you subtract the two...that's the number I hope it takes from the last time UND won till the next time...

So...figure that one out yet?? :D

  2. Hey, nobody wants to see my hobbit legs in a leather skirt....but don't knock my fandom. I've been around.

I know my way around that area very well, and could drive. However, I may have to sit this one out. Budget is a little skimpy.

Besides, if they do show ALL the games, I won't have to worry about missing a UND game! (not holding breath...but if they make it to a certain point I won't have to worry)

  3. The problem isn't Eaves...he showed that he can be an amazing coach when he took the 03 US WJ team to the Gold.

In my opinion he just doesn't have a lot to work with. The loads of experience on that team is made up largely of "B" rated players. I know talent doesn't reign supreme, but in this case the seniors aren't cutting it. Now that Elliot is hitting the wall and Connelly is a sieve there isn't much hope.

Eaves isn't the problem though, and I think in a couple years Wisco will be back to the place where they had Heatley and Reinprecht....that was a scary team!

  4. You want to see some more stories like that...Google Steve Hartman.

The guy is a master of heartwarming stories like that one. He does something which I believe he calls "Everybody has a story"; in which he throws a dart at the US map, opens that town's phonebook and finds a story in the person he picks. It's AMAZING how good some of them are!!!!

  5. Hatcher WAS slow on his feet and that showed with the amount of time he spent in the box. While I think we do need some older/wiser?? veterans on the team for some leadership. . . perhaps a Mathieu Schneider (who I felt played well and did his part), Brian Rolston, Bill Guerin. . . geez, even Chris Drury for that matter (the guy knows how to win at all levels and I think that means something. . . I remember watching him pitch Trumbull, CT to a Little League World Series title when I was young. He won the Hobey Baker Award in 1998, won an NCAA Hockey Title at BU, was NHL Rookie of the Year in 1999 and won a Stanley Cup with the Avs in 2001.) Some people know what to do to contribute to win at all levels. . . why not try to pass some of that on to our YOUNGER NHLer's? Take Zach Parise - who also knows how to win, mind you - and build the team with those type of players. Maybe this doesn't make much sense and I am WAYYYY off base, but that is where I would start if I were in charge! Cut the dead weight (cough, cough ModanoHatcherTkachuk, etc, etc. cough, cough) and start all over again before we slide ANY farther down the totem pole.

There is one minor error in your list of Druryisms....

UND beat BU in the 1997 Frozen Four title game!!! HOORAY! #6

It was the only time Drury was a loser in his whole life.

I totally agree about Martin and Drury though. The team needs some young blood.

  6. For next season, USA hockey needs to get rid of the primadonna 50 year old NHL vets, and put in some kids who know it's a priviledge...not a burden to play in the olympics.

It's no good putting a team together of players who just play because they "should" and whine about hotel reservations. Plus, many of the players were far past their prime.... look who did all the scoring (Gionta).

It's sad, but makes sense to me. If I were putting together a team for US Olympics (only possible in my xbox world) I would bring youth and speed. However, the teams that win are the ones with heart...I didn't see a whole lot of "inspiration" in the way this team played.

  7. It's not a verbatim transcript. If I feel a comment doesn't really add anything to the discussion, I don't include it.

I was being at least half-facetious.... you really do a great job!??? I just figured I'd throw that in, because it does show TH's bitter bias against UMN.

  8. Great job once again, but you left out the part where TH said something along the lines of "...and maybe this is the anti-Minnesota attitude coming out of me, but I just don't think they're at that level."

I think MN is playing with more confidence right now than any team in the league (aside from SC...lol). We'll see if they "blow a gasket".

All it takes is for one team to say "we're not gonna lay down!" and then prove it.

  9. The Sioux need to:

    1) Sweep Duluth and Tech - Duluth will help the COP ratings vs. some eastern teams. Sweeping Tech may actually lower the Sioux RPI.

    2) Get atleast 1 win vs. Denver - 2 wins would probably gaurentee a spot in the playoffs.

    3) One advantage of being seaded 5th or 6th in the WCHA is that you will get the potential to win 2 more games against a TUC to advance to the F5.

    4) Proceed to win al 9 playoff games and hoist #8

    5) It is really that easy, however none of this will happen if the team can't score.

    6) Interestingly enough, there is the potential that Denver can effectively end the Sioux season prematurely for the third consecutive season. I don't know about you, but I'm kind of sick of seeing Paukovich celebrate.

    7) Has anyone seen Sparky? What did Dogz do to him? I'm sure it wasn't pretty though...

You know who I'm getting tired of seeing celebrating? Well I'll tell you...Gauthier! I hate his smug grin. The guy is clutch as clutch can be, but I HATE him more than anyone else on that team (equally, maybe with Pauko and Gwozdecky)

  10. Give me an effing break with this "talent wins games" CRAP. CLEARLY, it is experience that wins in the WCHA. No matter how stacked you think your team is, you need a good mix of experience. With 9 freshmen it's hard to expect more than they've done so far. I think Lucia is a GREAT coach, but has serious ARROGANCE issues. Hakstol's coaching abilities are there, but he's largely unproven, as he's only been a head coach for 1 1/2 years.

TC was just venting...I don't blame him/her, but it is in poor taste to provoke opposing fans at their own website...even if they did deserve it.

  11. I'm not entirely sure how the concept of "standing" is supposed to lend itself to cheers, watching the game, etc. Most of the goofballs who "stand" are probably too drunk and/or stupid to follow the game anyway. Probably Aviation majors ...

Anyway, if you try to stand the entire game at any other venue, including NHL barns, you'll be asked to sit your ass down, or forfeit your seat.

ahem...I take offense to that. Some people feel that standing lets them expend the energy that they have, and it makes them more apt to cheer. Some people (even non-drunk, non-pilot goofballs :p ) even LIKE standing all game for a variety of reasons, not just because they like to piss people off. Just because you don't want to stand, doesn't mean you should disrespect those who do so when appropriate. Like I said before, it should be expected that people will stand when the game is tense and exciting. Those who do it the entire game should be asked to sit down.

I would love to stand the whole game, but understand why I cannot. Plus, don't generalize, just because REA wasn't designed for those who want to stand doen't mean that every other arena in the country wasn't either.

    Different strokes for different folks.

  13. Just know that the price of student tickets could go up EASILY and by a lot, and it would still be lower than UofM students pay.

Maybe someone can back this up, but I hear that the students there pay over 200? That's a MAJOR difference!! And they are the STUDENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA too!!

  14. As it has been said several times, standing should be expected WHEN APPROPRIATE. It's a hockey game, and when people get excited they tend to stand. Standing at all times isn't a reality.

I just don't think REA is willing to sell the leftover tickets for cheap JUST BECAUSE standing will happen. However, it should probably be mentioned. If the students adhere to the standing when the action warrants, there should be no need for an "obstructed view" tag.

  15. Aside from being a tad defensive, what part of Mory's response sounds like he's in grade school?? Maybe I did when I said bullseye, but I think he was pretty fair in his response, so I agree with it.

I think what he said is accurate. Just because some people don't want to stand at all, does that mean that nobody should stand at all to risk blocking someone's view?

I completely agree with Mory that swearing and standing are two very separate issues. Some appropriate standing should be tolerated, while most swearing (especially group oriented) should not.

It has to do with being respectful in this debate. It's going to be a compromise, and snide comments from either side are very counterproductive.

  16. I don't know what you mean by "won't be here all that long". I have been a Sioux fan all my (ok, yes only 22 years) life, and plan on continuing until I'm old and grey.

If both sides can be mature about it, I am totally game for a discussion. ;) I just don't like it when I hear:

"If you don't like people standing/swearing, you should get out. It's a hockey game, not church. Kids have no place at a hockey game"

    or

"Students are dumb kids who are just going to leave after college. You shouldn't reward their bad behavior. Sit down and cheer when appropriate, or don't come at all!"

I don't mean to be harsh, but seriously do either of those look rational to anyone??
