  1. florida said the same thing last summer about bjugstad but their GM is on record saying he will not pressure college kids to sign. even recently- the GM said they want bjugstad but if the kid wants to return to college for a third year- it is his decision. so for bjugstad its a matter of waiting for his decision after the frozen four

  2. i also cannot watch the game- i am out of area and it is blacked out despite me having the fox sports package on directv. i called directv and they said it may just not have been picked up by FSN in a way that allows it to be covered out of area like the college games generally are with the sports package

  3. North Dakota. We're the bad@sses of the league. 7 national titles, 15 conference titles, 19 Frozen Fours--all the most or tied for the most in the conference. We play an NHL style of hockey--which means we hit. That's not always a good thing when it comes to tourney time, but we like our hockey that way. I think somebody from the CCHA can appreciate that--not like those pansies in the Twin Cities and out east. Bunch of good people in North Dakota, and about the only time we get obnoxious is when some Gopher fan is acting all high and mighty. (They were the Michigan of the WCHA--except they didn't dominant the league.) Our biggest rival has been Minnesota. Our biggest rival in the new conference will probably be Denver because of how good the programs have been historically--although most teams want to beat us real bad. With the rise of Minnesota-Duluth, they are becoming a good rival. The adminstrators at St. Cloud State led the charge to eliminate our nickname, so we don't like them much. We have a devoted fan base that travels well. We perhaps travel better than any team in the country. We have a great rink. It's the second biggest rink in the country, and is almost always sold out.

well in painting a little more clear picture- denver has won the most regular season/wcha playoff/ncaa titles at 35. UND has 33. minnesota has 32. so historically denver is the premier program of the league. recently UND has won 3 playoffs championships in a row- but duluth has the most recent ncaa title- then wisconsin in 2006.. denver going back to back in 04/05.. gophers back to back in 02/03.. sioux's last is 2000. so this has been a great conference with no one team being the dominant team. there is no "michigan" of this league- from a historical standpoint in terms of titles it would be denver. from a hatred stantpoint it would be minnesota.

for the western michigan fans- the sioux have a great top line. if you can keep that line limtied to 1 goal on the game your chances will be good of pulling off the win. blood and forbort are two big defensemen that will play big minutes. dell has been good when it counts. what are the keys to western michigan winning? are they a deep team.. and do they have any shut down D-men??

  4. ha ha. makes me laugh. I could give you a laundry list of examples too. We are always looking to rename our corners in our builidng after people. Wehrs corner!

you know wehrs received a concussion with the first hit? not something a sioux fan or otherwise should laugh about IMO

  5. siouxforever- bjugstad would be the one outlier from the last 10+ years that hasnt been a bust? about half made it to the NHL. paul martin, johnny pohl, brian lee, ryan mcdonagh, nick leddy, aaron ness.. all guys that made it to the NHL. bjugstad will be on that list in a few months..

  6. I thought the poster over there that made the claim that UNO and UMD are better at producing NHL defensemen was funny. :D

i would assume it was in reference to the UNO coaching staff and not the program. if so- that is probably the case.

  7. Training camps, yes.

Rookie tournaments like the ones that happen before training camps you can attend if you pay your way, as Kristo attended one of these the year he played in the USHL, but most college players don't because it conflicts with school. So it all depends if the individual in question had things paid for.

alright. well then- maybe he is eligible afterall. hope he goes the college route..

  8. You can attend camps if you pay your own way. It just depends if they paid for him to attend or not. Lots of players attend NHL camps in the summer. Most NHL draftees do, I know that.

sorry- i think it was a fall camp. not a summer camp. and if i understand it correctly you cannot attend college if you attend an nhl fall camp.

  9. Little international flavor would be cool. The Force also has a Russian maybe land one and it will open the door for more

regarding daniil- it was asked on GPL a couple months ago and it sounds like he participated in a penguins camp this summer that dis-allows him from playing ncaa hockey. beyond that- my guess is if he was eligible for ncaas he would be in college now. i think he is 20 or 21 years old..

  10. Yeah, they hang banners for every little thing they win down there. They even have two AAU title banners from the early 20th century hanging from the rafters. We hang banners for WCHA and NCAA titles and we have one banner with all our WCHA playoff titles listed on it and that is it. And I hope it stays like that.

ok? using the theory that teams shouldnt keep banners from prior leagues- should the sioux remove wcha banners in 2014?

a title in 1940 counts just the same as one in 2000. at what point do you decide a title isnt worth honoring?

  11. The Gophers on the other hand take several dangerous runs in an attempt to be a 'physical team', some which were called and others that werent, leading to at least two injuries in what could easily have been more - and their approach is complete avoidance to the issue while redirecting to UNDs behavior. No admittance of wrong, apologies, or owning up to the illegal hits and chirping all weekend. Both teams made mistakes, the Gophers definitely aren't above reproof, yet to most reading the articles now and certainly to most Gopher fans, what's seen and what will be remembered is the 'proof' of UNDs fault being admitted by Kristo's apology and Blood's loss of the 'A'.

come on. frattin admitted to intentionally taking that run at wehrs to get the energy level up on the sioux bench. intentionally made a hit (launching himself in the air) that gave an opponent a concussion for the sake of getting his team momentum. no apology. the only achnoledgement on the hit was that he felt his team needed a pick-me-up. look at what malone did to players last year. and you want to talk about dangerous runs at opponents?

lucia benched parenteau last year for dropping the gloves against michigan tech. but you wont hear about that on this forum. as for the hansen hack- it wasnt a fraction of what zajacs cross check on anderson was- and alts hit wasnt a fraction of what kristos was. all of them were in the wrong- but it goes both ways.

  12. Too bad college hockey doesn't allow Mr. MacWilliam to give Mr. Alt a little "face time". Apparently he's earned it.

never like to see checks from behind. especially ones that cause injury. alt probably did earn a little "face time" with macwilliam. about as much as kristo earned for his hit friday night.

  13. Yes, but you can also make assumptions of who the one and dones will be, but it doesn't always work out like that. Heard some people think that Forbort would be a one and done, and some thought Kristo might be. Others thought Toews might be done after one and Oshie after two. If you can get an extra year out of some of those players, it doesn't guarantee you a championship, but it sure is fun to watch those players.

THAT is something i can agree with. i just dont think the 1 and dones are remembered much unless they are nhl GREATS (especially on defense where the numbers arent there showing in the record books like they might with a nathan mackinnon).

  14. Erik Johnson played a year of college after being selected #1 as well.

ok then hes going to play for the sioux.

to be honest he has been pretty open about not being thrilled with cold winters (as dumb a reason as that sounds- it is a factor for some kids). he is from texas and i just dont see him choosing north dakota. hes friends with a lot of guys going to michigan and miami so i would guess one of those if he goes to college- but i dont see him going to college at all. but crazier things have happened eh. as for the erik johnson reference- would you really want seth jones to come in for 1 year anyway?

  15. And there are several recruits out there on the radar that could bolster the list even more - Clint Lewis, Ian McCoshen, Seth Jones, Alex Schoenborn, etc., etc., etc.

Again, nothing here really that's not already known, but I figured I'd put pen to paper finger to keyboard on my thoughts.

seth jones? really? the kid might be the second overall pick- hes not playing college hockey.
