  1. I know you guys tell me not to think much of the rankings this time of year, BUT how does minny stay put with what they did, and the Sioux drop with what they did?

i dont think the gophers should be ranked 2nd... but minnesota won their only game they had over the weekend. why would they not stay put??

  2. budish does need to develop more to make it to the nhl. that being said, nashville scouts at mariucci last year were overheard saying they like his development and his strength on the puck. he wasnt drafted to be a scorer.. thats just not what he is. his role is working in the corners and finding open linemates.. hence the assists

  3. I never got why Gopher fans think LaPanta is so bad... Let's be honest here.. Mazzocco was a cheer leader that was only missing the pompoms in the announcers both. Frank was also one of the biggest homers next to the Shavers to ever do hockey... That's not to say he's not a great guy or a great photographer, because he is a good photographer but he was hard to listen... Of course Gopher fans love him because he played right into their hands and basically cheered for the Gophers when he did a hockey broadcast... I think Woog was a lot better than Frank...

i think most gopher fans liked lapanta. i think it was mostly the older, die-hard fans that go online that didnt like him and missed the old crews (mazzocco/"burgundy").. there arent that many college hockey fans that go onto online message boards- so it doesnt take many for it to SEEM like most a team's fanbase thinks one thing or another. most young minnesotans like lapanta.. for his hair alone if nothing else. if minnesotans didnt like them some lapanta- he wouldnt have gotten the promotion to wild broadcasts

  4. i dont like the argument that kids should be able to play ncaa after playing major junior. major junior is professional. you dont go from being a professional to being an amateur. college hockey programs need to reconsider their approach to recruiting instead of reconsidering the rules of playing amateur hockey after beginning a pro career. the CHL is just plain beating some college hockey schools at the game of selling their route to the NHL. develop more NHL players and the kids will come to the ncaas. did UND work for toews and parise?? sure. but for every toews and parise that went to the ncaas- there are 3 crosbys taylor halls claude girouxs.. etc etc etc that went major junior.

  5. Really, why would you want to prepare yourself for the NHL by playing against 16 year olds in juniors when you can play against 25 year olds in the WCHA?

its a bit of a misconception that the WHL is full of 16 year olds. there are 4 winterhawks on their team this year that are younger than jones..while half the winterhawk forwards are 1991/1992s.. putting them at around 20 or 21 years old. some of which are high NHL picks (bartschi/rattie..)

  6. i prefer college hockey over canadian juniors just as much as the next guy but to say portland is brainwashing kids to sign there is being a bit misinformed. portland is the premier team in the WHL. they have had very high talent the last few years (last year they had 2 of the top 5 nhl picks from the 2010 draft).. if he wants to go canadian juniors- portland is the perfect place for him. they also have mild winters (40s-50s).. which probably doesnt hurt recruiting jones from the sounds of it.

  7. if whoever the winner is between bc and the gophs doesn't win the title it will be a considered a HUGE upset as neither union or ferris are of of the caliber of those two teams.

one of them is a #1 seed and the other won the CCHA. the gophers are the lowest seed in the frozen four and from that perspective any gopher win over any of the three is an upset. unless i am missing something?

  8. I agree the u of m made no attempt to schedule UND. the u of m's first priority was series with the other MN schools. after that there were 2 non conference series available. one was taken with notre dame- the second may be and/or already was taken with the rumored BC/BU agreement. either way- the u of m did not try and make it work with UND. its very very unfortunate

  9. I couldn't disagree more. The "crappier" team should not have any advantages...the advantage should always go to the better team from the past 6 months/35 games of the season. That is how it is in every professional playoff format and this is how it is in the WCHA playoffs. They used to play a 2 game total goal series at the higher seeds rink to advance to the frozen four back in the 80's so this is not without NCAA tournament history...I much prefer best of 3 to 2 game total goals...

their advantage is that they are the better team, matched up with a worse team! now you want it at the favorites building. and then you want a 3 game series? come on. win 1 game against a worse team and move on in the tournament. if you cant do that- you dont deserve it.
