  1. I'm sure that's part of it. But they will also operate where they are profitable. If Grand Forks becomes one of the hubs for UAS as projected, it could become the Silicon Valley of UAS. Would Google or Apple move out of the Silicon Valley?

They already have. Both have campuses under construction in Boulder right now. I'm sure there are others across the country.

  2.  Roosevelt was quoted as saying: “I don’t go so far as to think that the only good Indians are dead Indians, but I believe nine out of ten are, and I shouldn’t like to inquire too closely into the case of the tenth.” - See more at: http://undhockey.areavoices.com/?p=100931#comment-151680

I don't see how taking a direct quote from Teddy Roosevelt can be construed as libel or slander.   As far as people thinking he was racist, i don't think there's much argument after reading this quote.

And he was a white male.

  3. Why is it so difficult to choose a nickname?  I think this is why:  Nicknames are silly, stupid, lame, passe`, and even politically incorrect. All animal names are lame.  We aren't hawks!  We are not weather phenomenon!  Do we really need to use the nickname of a Grand Forks high school?  Where does it say a school must have a nickname?  We are North Dakota!  We are proud hearty hard-working industrious intelligent good people. The interlocking ND is a great logo. We are North Dakota, period.  No silly stupid lame nickname can top that!  "North Dakota" has served us well for the last few years. Not having a nickname is classy.  It does not diminish us.  It elevates us. I wish we were not forced to have a nickname.

    Conform or be cast out.

  4. Interesting, yes, but I find it sad. Overtook the south, broke away from California, in 1964, no, 1864, and Abraham Lincoln was a signer of the Declaration of Independence. God help America.

Too late. We are under tyranny.Time to take care of yourself.

  5. Don't know if that link worked?

McDonald's is tanking, Coke, Pepsi, is tanking! The sugar company's are tanking. Our " better for you" and made in the "name of profit" foods are killing us!

Not to worry. We have the FDA to keep us safe.

  6. Sorry if I wasn't clear.  That part about the elders vs the younger generations was in regard to the assimilation comment that I quoted.

As for their work ethic - they're human, so I've seen hard workers and lazy asses from all age groups.  I have come to find that it's impossible to separate who will be a good worker by skin color or place of birth or family type.  Some people are hard workers.  Some are natural leaders.  Some are unemployable.

I wonder how many excellent employees you have not hired because they like to smoke a little ganja on their own time.

  7. I guess they are much worse than inspiring names such as Hawkeyes, Spartans, Gophers, Cornhuskers, Wildcats, Badgers, Ducks, Aggies, Falcons, Broncos, Bulldogs, Rams, Cowboys, etc, etc, etc.

All of those are on the same level as the majority of the finalist list.  The difference is, they are in place and people have acclimated to them.  The same thing will happen at UND.  There wasn't going to be some magical nickname that everyone looked at and said "Yep, that's it" so I'm not sure why people are surprised that there is unrest with the finalists.  It's a nickname.  The sports teams will continue to strive to make the University of North Dakota proud regardless of whatever new nickname and logo happens to be chosen and rational, level-headed people will still support them the same.

As long as it isn't chosen by a bunch of overbearing PC libtards.

I would rather have no identity, that be the UND Pride/Spirit/Blaze/SunDogs.

Perfect examples. Can't get much more wimpy than those.

  8. If you'll consider ermines, I'm in, but it's not an exciting story.

I live on another sports board, and a North Dakota resident posted the story about this.  I own a market research firm that does a fair amount of brand research for various organizations and a fair amount of work for universities (maybe 15+% of our client base), so it intrigued me.  I've done a couple of projects about names changes for universities, and one of my coworkers did some mascot/logo work for a university, so I've seen some different processes.

We were brainstorming mascots and pretty much determined that Ermines would be a great name.  So I came here to help plant the seed.  I'm not a fan of college sports at all and have no ulterior motive other than to support the UND Ermines, and I'm also interested in watching the process from a professional basis.  I'll respond to another post with some observations about that process.

I think you should consider a career change. Ermines is quite lame in my book.
