  1. ...and North Dakota has done it again! :)

That badger call of the incident is awesome to listen too, it makes me laugh so hard each time. Hoe awesome would it be to have that whole oncident in HD.

The Archibald storming back with a flying right donkey punch is classic. And the troopers pulling people apart.............what goes through a guys head when he looks up to the state police una hockey fight. Classic old time hockey.

  2. Didn't Greg's basically have to go to be able to sign as a free agent, as opposed to being stuck in the islanders organization. I'm not positive on how that works if he says his senior year.

I'd say both would have been better served by staying. All things being equal.

  3. Sorry, to pick on you, but the selection criteria/process is what it is, and they can't change it in the middle of the season. It's the result of a mathematical formula and nothing else.

Although haven't there been criteria and calculation changes during the last few seasons?

  4. Who knows but I would guess he would at least stay at UND for another year or two to bulk up and repair that knee. Lets face it until his surgery is done and he has skated the Florida Panthers aren't going to pressure him to sign a contract until they know he has recovered from his knee injury. What not a better place than UND to find that out.

Agreed, I just can't see the panthers putting money into him untill they see some competition against the bigger boys of college hockey.

And grow into as much bulk as he can before the NHL, or AHL,

    My prediction.......

Grimaldi is the first ever recipient of the NCHC player of the year award. Then on down to all that beautiful sn......stuff down in FLA.

  5. The wife and I are going to b introducing a college buddy and his wife to Sioux Hockey on Saturday night in St Cloud.

The only question now is what jerseys to wear?

I may break out the authentic black Genoway I just finished if they wear black on Saturday, if not I just don't think a guy can go wrong with the clasic 82 Eades again.

Either way we are looking forward to it, don't think well make the social but you never know.

Hoing for a good showing from the depleted ranks, just need lots of energy and drive to get points this weekend.

  6. That's an interesting question that's brought up a lot...either directly or indirectly. A lot of times when we get a good recruit, we are thrilled, but if we don't sign him, we just say we don't want a guy who will only be here one year anyways.

Here's how I look at it.

A guy as good as Seth Jones would be huge for any university. If he came to North Dakota, it adds another level of credibility to our team, especially if he goes on to be a future NHL star. Look at Toews. Let's say he only stayed one year. How would you feel about him? I know I would still be thrilled to know that UND had an impact on him, even if for only one season. Future recruits can be swayed by the past success stories of a school, so someone who looks up to a guy like Seth Jones might convince him to sign with UND vs elsewhere. It may not win you a championship, but it wouldn't hurt your chances either, so long as the student-athlete in question was a good student, a good teammate, and a good citizen of the community.

If a guy comes to UND and stays for only one year, but leaves for all the right reasons, there is absolutely no problem with that. If he is gone after one year for all the wrong reasons, that is potentially harmful.

    Just my take.

I agree totally and present as evidence,

    Mr. Ed Belfour

One year, brought great credibility to the program, still does.

  7. So just for fun, to play with this a bit more........and to turn the table a bit.....

How about the Sioux in say last years team during the beast mode run going up in a ten game series against last years Edmonton Oilers (62 points last year)??

Do the Sioux win a few? The majority? One game legitimately, or maybe just one game on a fluke?

I think it would be interesting to hear what people think, just for fun. I mean I can hear the argument that if top college players can step right into the NHL well then why can't they compete at that level in a matchup? I said I can hear that argument, not saying I would make that argument.

Personally I think that the top to bottom skill sets developed at the higher levels just flat out trump the best of the lower levels,.....

....but, to use a few clichés ; on any given night.....do you believe in miracles........one in a million.........sooooooo You're saying there's a chance.

  8. Ok if anybody really has an inkling that that matchup is in any way feasible or on par, they are quite honestly delusional.

What you have is a few very uninformed and unknowledgable people who know nothing about hockey other than they maybe take a few kids to a game a few times a year and think its the same thing, or desperately want it to be the same socially as a Sioux game.

I go to quite a few Bobcats game, they are fun, good hockey for that skill level, very well run organization actually. And there are many many many knowledgable and hockey wise people that attend and enjoy the show

They get good attendance and that's good for hockey, but there deffinetly are those that attend frequently that know nothing about hockey and prove it loudly and obnoxiously.

So in that respect I guess it is the same as pretty much every game at every level, god knows ive heard em everywhere, the Ralph, the kohl center, high school rinks everywhere and yes the VFW rink in Bismarck last night.

  9. I get the smirk and like the idea but I don't think they would go for it if they couldn't sell jerseys and merchandise with the seal on it.....

"The North Dakota Great Seal is the state's only symbol that is protected by state law (Section 54-02-01 of the North Dakota Century Code). It cannot be reproduced or modified in any manner for use in any commercial applications. For more information regarding its use, contact the office of the North Dakota Secretary of State."

I say the best bet is to honor our proud And thankless public servants who protect our roads every day......

  10. Kohl center impressions:

Friday, finally got there with 7:46 to go in third, drunken security guard wouldn't let us in with our tickets at first but I got by after a brief protest, rude as heck and wouldn't tell us where the handicapped elevator was claimed they didn't have one.

They wouldn' t let my handicapped dad use the elevator we found after the game to get down from the 309 level seats, it was being "held for the coaches", him with a cane lipped down the stairs with a 80 year old lady that was also denied use of the elevator.

    Saturday,

Different story, nice accommodating traffic help.

An areana worker who witnessed the previous nights event saw my dad and came over to apologize for the incident.

They gladly exchanged our regular seats for accessible seats, a few rows higher but very good views and ease of access.

Great atmosphere for a half full house, clean bright place.

The Wisconsin fans around us were very cordial knew hockey well, had respect for the game, traditions, the rivalry and were fun to talk to. They thanked us for traveling to the game and made for a classy fan base.

    I really enjoyed the game..........

plan to do it all next year too

Except the 9 hour train delay.........and the loss on friday........and Saturday......

  11. Well, that was a tough one to stomach but not a bad game to watch.

Didn't have to rely on the train tonight and ended up sitting in good seats.

    My Saturday impressions:

Consistency is a paramount issue with this team, too many roller coaster swings of aggression and daze.

Wisconsin will be living and dying by their goaltending this year, very poor team play in the ozone, too timid.

Reffing was terrible and I mean embarrassing aweful and both ways, icings that weren't icings missed offsides, the badgers first goal came on a chance after a sioux was tripped with the puck behind badger net, no call, badger fans around me even chuckled.

    Sioux can not take penalties.

Defensive intensity was lackluster around the net, very good around the boards, in transition and at the blue line. But in front it was uninspired, Wisconsin had many chances where they had a winger sneak backside of the d man and if a better team had those opportunities they would have buried many many more.

#4 had a terrible first period.

Don't know why but lammy kept falling down and mean alot and in open ice, don't know what was up with that.

kristo was really head and shoulders the best player on the ice again, he looks like he's at another level puck handling .

I don't know that this team deserved to wear the black yet.

Goaltending is in big trouble, dell had a hot mess in front of him on most every goal and he was betrayed by poor defense but, he's better than a 5 goal on 14 shot performance and either he or eidsness need to step it up.

Rumpel has got a good future in front of him

Sure it's early in the season and sure they're young, and sure they lost a lot in seniors, early departures, injuries and such..........

However this is still a better team than what they are showing, Hak has got to find a way to get that out of them......and I think he will.

These points in the wcha and pairwise are gonna be sorely missed come February and march,

  12. Dig deeper, you can search by train number as well. 7-27-8-28

Eastbound they are telling me now is always very bad, moving west not so much.

Political I suppose it can go that direction but doesn't need to.

From what I see its a no win situation for their schedule.

Percentages are percentages but right now I know with 100% certainty that I'm typing this as we are meandering Towards la crosse, Not enjoying a pre game steak with my family before getting to the game.

We crawled through dinky town at snails pace.......threw up a little in my mouth.

  13. So it sounded like a good idea right.....

Hop on the Amtrak train and head out to Madison for the badgers series. Awesome train leaves at 2am and rolls into badger land at 1 in the afternoon,.

Well if you ever think that little plan for a roadie is something you want to do........dig a little deeper and think twice especially about Amtraks 6.7% on time percentage for the eastbound empire builder.

And the delays aren't just a few minutes, Nine hours that's right they're nine hours behind, so instead of catching some great Sioux hockey in the not so friendly confines of the Kohl center, we'll be following along via twitter as we chug lazily through the rolling cheese basket of the Wisconsin landscape.

Sorry for the rant but Im just a bit perturbed by the whole ordeal as I lay here in a bedbug infested notell motel in bisonville awaiting a mythical silver rumor.

Well I guess we'll still make Saturday nights game...............actually I guess I shouldn't so much count on that either.

  14. Who''s ready for the road trip! I can't wait, first time hitting the road and i just finished putting the final touches on the jersey for the game.

I took my replica 1982 sioux jersey and added the 22 and C patch to create the perfect Eades jerse, kinda thinking I might not make too many friends in Madison but it will be a great time!

If your going or see me there say hey!
