  1. Yeah, Hanson threw a nice pass for a big gain to Hardin right after his injury, so it isn't too serious. I'd say Mussman's goal would be to get him back from the Big Sky opener @ Sac State. However, this really makes the next two games difficult, and the Portland State game is really important because of the crappy DII team we just played. We need all the DI wins we can get to make playoffs and without Hanson, Portland St. will be tough to beat if we can't throw the ball. I'm not saying Hendrickson can't throw for over 200 yds against PSU, but I'll go out on a limb and say if he doesnt UND loses. Hope the 5th year senior from Perham, MN has it in him, but I won't believe it until I see it 9/8. Also, the QB depth situtation just makes this injury that much worse.

  2. Radio guys are saying Hanson will probably be out a couple of weeks but nothing serious.

Yeah, that still really sucks though. In a meaningless game, we lose a player who looked absolutely terrific to start the game. With Hendrickson starting the next couple of games, it will be really tough to get a win. This really does stink. Hopefully Hendrickson can make some good throws against Portland St. and still get us the win but the San Diego State game looks really bleak now, if it didn't before.

  3. Faison said today on KFGO 790 that the amount of student tickets handed out for the game is the greatest its been in the last five years. Sounds like there finally will be some positive student interaction that will definitely aid the game time atmosphere.

  4. It’s important to appeal to the fans, especially the student body, early and often in this season opener. Why may you ask; because initial impression is everything. For instance, last year’s first game (a game against Drake- certainly not a better matchup than the S. Dakota game) drew the second largest crowd of the season. It was on a Thursday night and a home opener – just like this year. If you appeal to the students early, they will likely continue to come. That includes great tailgating, great entrance, and a great showing (including jerseys). Last year, so many students noticed the mediocre-at-best atmosphere during the first game, and left before the game was even over and never came back for another game.

There will be near 10,000 (if not over) at the game tomorrow due to the hype, marketing campaign, and just plainly nothing else to do on a Thursday night, so the team and UND marketing department should do everything they can to appeal to the initial, first game crowd and get them to come back every week!!

So I say let's see those new black jerseys right away; love this decision!

  5. If they pick an acdc song for our intro I will be pissed

Hey man it ain't that bad; actually, ACDC is pretty darn good for an entrance and considering the new black jerseys, "Back in Black" will be perfect. I know one thing, ACDC is a heck of a lot better than Nickelback (which they were playing)!!

  6. Attendance is more important than the game? This is about seeing what the players can do.

I'm afraid you misunderstood me; interest and importance are two different things. I would say the vast majority of us believe UND will win the game in a blowout; however, attendance is definitely an unknown.

According to the student handing out tickets today at the student ticket office, "the tickets are flying." I'm optimistic about Thursday.

  7. Yeah, there really isn't anything more to mention here other than UND should win by a bunch and the younger guys get some experience in the second half. The more interesting topic would be possible attendance on Thursday night. I think last year's opening game, which also was on a Thursday night at 7, is a perfect game to base a prediction. Last year, the opener recorded 8484, so 9000 should be a safe bet for this Thursday. However, all of last season there wasn't a game with over 10,000 attendance, so how awesome would it be if that was broken on 2012 opening night! I don't think it will happen but it certainly is possible, so that's something to look for.

  8. I don't think I will have a huge problem with the black jersey/white pants combo just because the new black jerseys just look plain better than the green jerseys. They are a better fit which aids to the appearance.

  9. Has any team ever won a game because their jerseys were tighter than the opposing team's jerseys? No! What an absurd theory.

Not only do loose fitting jerseys not put you at a disadvantage, they look so much better than tight fitting jerseys. Let's leave the tight fitting shirts to gymnasts and ballerinas please. :silly:

As far as jersey appearance and fit, let's leave that decision to the recruits and players who are actually playing and are still committed to THE PROGRAM - not the nickname - to decide what they like...and 9 out of 10, if not 10 out of 10, will want the tighter fitting jerseys.

You look good, you feel good, you play good. PERIOD.

  10. Winning is about the only thing the program can do right now to get complete student and community support, because it certainly is nowhere close to where it could be...or should be.

  11. I know myself and some others have been wondering if the San Diego State game will be televised or at least streamed online. I decided to send a quick email to their athletics department and here is what they said:

Thanks for the e-mail. The Mountain West Conference and CBS Sports Network (owner of the league’s inventory) are working on getting additional San Diego State Football games televised this season. That includes the Sept. 10 game against North Dakota.

We hope to be able to release information soon regarding arrangements for the games not already announced for television.

    Thanks,

    Mike

    Sounds promising

  12. That is one interesting side of functional, but I agree.

I meant gameplay functionality, such as tighter fitting, etc like someone alluded earlier. They said the greens are basically trash compared to the blacks in this regard.

I think the point you just mentioned is critical in this discussion. I mean, most alternate uniforms (in the NCAA-both FCS and FBS) are different in terms of color and design, not functionality. Nonetheless, if you have two options for home jerseys and one gives you a better on-field advantage than the other, why would you even flirt with the one that puts you at a disadvantage (loose fitting jerseys). I think the football team and the athletic department should think about this and obviously realize color and design does not take priority over practical application. Wear the blacks all the time until better green jerseys are ordered, period.

  13. I don't care what color they wear at home, but if the black jerseys are more FUNCTIONAL, then they absolutely need to wear them each and every game.

They look better which will appeal to recruits and fans, so yes - they will be more functional.

  14. OK, not to put a curse or hex on anything, but I'm going to talk about the 800 pound gorilla in the corner of the room: Quarterback.

If the nightmare scenario were to come to pass, namely, both of "my two sons" go down (Hanson, Hendrickson), what does Muss do?

Here's my notion: If the third loss is already in the L column were it to happen, you bring in the third "son", Jake Hanson from Grafton, to finish out the season at QB. Why? You keep all of the eligibility on Bartels and Mollberg.

I don't want to see this come to pass, but when's the last time UND had a QB take every snap in a season?

It certainly is an interesting argument, but the philosophy of Mussman and the program is to win NOW - don't hold anything back for another season. In the very unfortunate event both B.Hanson and Hendrickson go down, you would likely see Mollberg step in and play as he gives us the best chance to win. Putting Jake Hanson in the starting role would be the next thing to forfeiting the season given the talent of Mollberg and even Bartels. After seeing Hanson practice this fall, I don't think he will even be on the team after this season. The only reason he will be on the team this season is the because of the hole left by Joey Bradley's departure.

  15. I think that green jerseys should be the primary jersey used for home games;however, the current green jerseys are of poor design and fit. For that reason, I think the new blacks should be used exclusively this season until a replacement green jersey is ordered. I mean, the quality of the current greens is just ridiculous. But don't get me wrong, green helmets-green jerseys-white pants is what UND football is all about, if the jersey is not Jr. High football quality.

  16. The debut of the blacks is with jersey number 40, not jersey number 83 (as in 1883, the year of UND's founding).

    Interesting.

I wonder if that isn't a quiet, tip-of-the-cap acknowledgement to someone, a UND guy who wore "40" until just recently.

(Suddenly makes me wonder who bought the new uniforms.)

Baylee Carr was the one who modeled them; his number is 40.

Ok, the second picture looks better. I really like them...but would they look better with a black helmet? The green helmet just looks out of place to me.

In my opinion, the green helmets look fine with the uniform - they provide the contrast necessary for a non-monochrome look. Also something to keep in mind, the UND football sign on the Alerus features a green helmet so UND should probably honor that.

  17. I could be wrong... that's just my guess. They have adjusted the helmet color to better match the green, eliminating that problem with the green ones. We'll see.

Yeah, I think the green jerseys will look alot better now since the helmets match. With that the case, they should be alright to keep wearing them.

  18. Since the jersey conversation has drifted over here... I'm 95% sure we will see black jersey's before the Montana game. UND doesn't have the budget for alternate jersey games like you see at the Bowl Championship level. The jerseys are simply delayed in arrival so likely won't be on display until the 2nd or 3rd game. With the distaste for the current uni's - they will wear the new ones as soon as they get in.

I agree we obviously don't have the budget of FBS programs, but Montana, Montana St., and Eastern Washington, among others FCS programs, all have alternate jerseys. No big deal, we will have one now too.

  19. Apparently there is a cool video that will be up tomorrow morning. I'm wondering if its going to be the "Through These Doors" for football.

After reading a recent Jason Hajdu tweet, it likely is.

  20. This has nothing to do with the 2012 season. It's an interview with RJ McGill when he was in high school. I just thought it was funny because he said he couldn't go to college in a cold environment. Did he have a down year his senior season to end up here?

He also says he likes a packed stadium..........

He might finally be getting that this season.

  21. On the video at UNDsports.com for Media Day, Jack Michaels specifically mentioned the "black-out" game against Montana....................

Yeah, so I'd say it wouldn't be a particular blackout game if they wore them before Oct. 20th. The only chance we'll see the new blacks is if someone "leaks" an image (i.e. Twitter); otherwise, it'll be one of many factors used to get the Alerus excited and rocking when Montana comes to town, and we'll have to wait until then.
