Are all these guys are going to be on the roster come fall? I don't think we know that yet.
Let's start with spring ball, and yes, I believe the sophomores and freshmen I mentioned will be on the roster come spring ball. Now, one or two could be gone, but the majority of the young nucleus of players will be back.

Thank god there is one voice of sanity on this board. Again I'll ask this question. If you are a recruit why in the hell would you choose UND over SU?? Playing time?? People are saying wait til this class is signed. Are you f#$#$%$ kidding me? The type of kids we are going to get at this point are Div II talent...Like the last two kids we just offered. There isn't a chance in hell we get those type of players this year...Zero chance...Have you looked at the kids that have Verballed to Su? We would take half that class and be happy as hell!! They still have another 8-10 kids to add....Again on those kids if we are head to head does anyone think a kid would choose us??/
Reality check people.....we are in a WORLD of hurt...and its not changing anytime soon...no matter who the coach is...
I still say let's wait and see, because you definitely don't know what you're talking about. Yes NDSU's recruiting class is shaping up very nicely, but it should be considering they just won 3 national championships in a row. UND has offered several players recently that are on NDSU's radar, so your DII talent statement is incorrect. Also, if a twin cities kid has a connection to the university through his family or familiarity with UND hockey, there's a chance he'd pick UND over NDSU. I agree that NDSU is much more appealing than UND to a neutral, unbiased recruit, but in North Dakota and Minnesota there are several recruits who are partial to either UND or NDSU. Add in UND's academics and there are several reasons UND's class could be far better than pessimistic fools think. Oh, and how about JUCO players or FBS dropdowns? Are they all DII talent too? C'mon man, your negative attitude is not realistic, but rather just pessimistic and appalling.
-
And NDSU's relevance is yet irrelevant....
-
Kleinsassers teams and Diggers team also pounded teams and looked good doing it with the black pants at home.
Without question. I think if there's one common factor in all of this, it's that we just need green jerseys back!
-
Green jersey with black pants. It's a mean look and it worked well for those smashmouth teams. The change to white pants at home coincided with softer UND teams. We need to get back to pounding the piss out of teams.
You not remember the 2001 team and what they wore? Pretty sure they pounded the piss out of teams...

Everyone is talking as if there is no hope moving forward because of this year's possible bust of a recruiting class. What I have to say those people is "shut up and wait and see". You can b*itch all you want after we're blown out this season, which I don't see happening, but not now.
First thing, we don't know this year's class yet! The class will include transfers and JUCOs.
Secondly, we don't know how good the young players will be moving forward! That includes sophomores and especially the redshirt freshmen. Players such as Patrick Sharp, Aeron Carr, Kyle Norberg, and Cole Reyes could make an immediate impact based on what I've heard. Also, other young performers such as Mollberg/Bartels, Marcus Cheatom, Casey Young, Will Ratelle, Javen Butler, etc. could be much improved this season under Bubba's tutelage.
Let's wait and see how this team (which we are unsure of in terms of final composition) reacts to Bubba's staff's coaching. As of now, we have no idea.

But 3 or 4 wins means we are basically as bad as this year, and I think we will struggle more in 2015 because of this years recruiting bust. I hope you are wrong, because for 3 or 4 wins we could just as well have kept Muss.
Why keep Muss? He had no potential to lead this team to a conference championship due to his lack of leadership and general incompetence. Getting 4 wins next year would be an improvement considering the players lost and next years more difficult schedule.
-
In the Alerus Center, UND would've beat Ferris State. We played tough against SDSU and Eastern Washington - there's no way Ferris State wins, unless it was late in the year when the team had no confidence.
-
The cupboard is going to be damn near empty for UND next year. People need to realize it. The difference between the two rosters is enormous.
How can you say that when we don't know what the roster for next year is yet? There's going to be more players leaving and certainly some additions. Let's just wait until after spring ball before we start declaring the cupboard is empty.
-
Looks like there will be a lot of Patrick Sharp with Shuags next year and I don't think that is a bad thing.
Wish Sparks would have given it one more year to get his chance and prove himself on the field but if he did just get engaged and I believe has a baby, understandable. Best of luck to him.
With the new run game emphasis, I'm excited to see that combination. Will make life a lot easier for the quarterback, whether that's Mollberg or Bartels.
-
But I don't think they had to assemble nearly their entire class in basically one month. That's a lot to ask of any staff, particularly one not even close to being at full strength yet.
No, but after their 3-8 season they needed a bunch of new starters, and those starters ended up being freshmen. The experience they built because of that led to tremendous success.
-
While I may agree with you, maybe Miller was the guy who brought his lunchpail and gave 100% everyday while others were working on their touchdown dance... just giving playing time to the guy who earned it in practice. I don't know, but dedication during practice should earn playing time, imho.
Justifying Miller playing is absolutely ridiculous. Even if he was the hardest worker, he wasn't the best back on the roster. Patrick Sharp as a true freshman would've been a better option than Miller.
-
NDSU will have more talent on the field next year relative to UND - that much we can be sure of. However, both coaching staffs are a toss up in terms of relativity. We won't know which coaching staff is superior for a couple seasons, when we can compare both records and recruiting classes.
-
Home: green helmets, green jerseys, white pants
Road: green helmets, white jerseys, black pants
Problem solved. Use the black jerseys once a year for a blackout game. Even green jerseys with black pants wouldn't look that bad if used sparingly.

Really?? I don't post often but this is an idiotic statemnt.
Their HC is one of the best DC in the FCS. Bohl wanted him BAD!! Was very pissed he didn't go to WYO. Their new OC knows the FCS very well and is a great recruiter. Randy is a very good coach(look at SIU QB's when he has been there) Did a great job at St. Cloud State. Their new DC is held in high regards with the new HC which should tell you something. The remaining coach's from what I've been told are also very good.
And we are better why?
How about when our coach's have the success that theirs have had we can make a claim. I would bet against it though...
Honestly....if I am a current HS senior and am recruited by both schools the choice is no brainer....seriously!!!! For us not to get that floors me.
Its going to take us quite awhile to even get close to their level....And a lot of us act like this is going to happen overnight.
Su has raised the bar to a level that IMHO is unattainable at UND...
People on here think they are going to be bad next year..what planet do you people live on??? They have been getting the best recruits for the past three years in the area....plus they have a ton of very good players coming back.... Plus a great coaching staff....I think they will be OK..lol
we have a long, long way to go...am I excited for the new staff? Absolutely!!!! but lets keep things in perspective..
Predicting how next season is gonna go is idiotic. Let's wait and see what the new staff comes up with in the first year. Year one will give us a solid idea what this regime will be like, even if our record is poor. Same goes for NDSU - next year will definitely be different for them.
-
who picks the position coaches? the head coach or the coordinators?
any leaders at this point?
Coordinators chose who they like but obviously the head coach has final say.
-
There won't be a Hoffner hiring.
-
This whole Jirik tweeting thing only proves the point that there is still clearly a rivalry!!!! Fresh off 3 straight NC's he goes out of his way to put down UND, it is what it is. Wasn't there a deal last year too with NDSU players saying something similar as well?
I'll say it: anyone who thinks or thought there wasn't a rivalry anymore is a delusional idiot.

Clearly reading comprehension is not a strong suit of yours. I said program. Not school. Program can be looked at in this case as the individual football programs or as an entire athletic program....however with the 9% comment, that pretty much narrows it to football...considering one school has 11 titles... And one has 1. That is why these kids play...to win titles. Anyone with a different goal is probably not going to succeed. I said nothing about the academics of the university you attended.
Anyone willing to actually look at the two schools objectively would see two fine places to get an education.
As my father always said, "You can't argue with idiots."
I'm happy for you; your football PROGRAM must make you so proud. I chose what I want to read when it's coming from morons. I feel that's my right since I'm even willing to deal with the idiots.
-
Proud of a program with roughly 9% success of the AC?
And how do you figure that? Did you calculate basketball and hockey into that equation as well? Oh yeah, NDSU doesn't have a national championship winning hockey team. Did you account for UND's head-to-head record versus the Ag school? You're probably too young to remember those games I suppose. How about academic success and alumni diversity/success? Does NDSU produce a lot of physicians, attorneys, commercial aviation pilots, and astronauts? Do they produce a lot of business executives? You really are oblivious and naive if you think I should not be proud of my alma mater. Get the facts straight buddy, that is if it's possible for you to receive any academic training from the "learn how to play in the dirt" school of the south.
-
If our football program doesn't have the money to add 1 different helmet and 1 jersey/pants option from the current sets, they may as well close the program. Consistantly, the only 3 sports that make money are football, hockey and mens basketball. I have seen high school football programs do this, so if a D-I college football program can't afford it, we are in serious trouble.
Don't get me wrong, there are ways to work around some of the hurdles. One of our fellow competitors in the Big Sky actually does this.

I just don't feel we need to do all this though. If we did, I would be fine with it I guess because it would attract recruits. If we don't, then I'm okay with it also as long as green jerseys come back as our primary home look.
-
I've been thinking about this for a while now and feel that 6-6 should be the worst we go next year along with ZERO blowouts. The first couple games will set the tone for the entire year and let's hope it's good. We absolutely need to get to be a playoff caliber team in 2 years OR ELSE.
That's too extreme in my opinion. I do agree that this team will be improved next season, though, due to better quarterback play, a running game presence, disciplined defense, and improved coaching/leadership. I'd go with 4 or 5 wins, but 6 is possible.

Who?
@jirik93: Sioux suck sh*t!! #BisoNation
@jirik93: I love Sioux fans they get mad when you make fun of the football team cause they are a "hockey" school lol
Tweets from Sr. Cole Jirik.
I see they have a lot of class down there. Will always hate NDSU athletics for crap like this. Makes me proud to be associated with the flagship university of North Dakota, and not the oversized tech school down in Fargo.

Really like the additions. Look like a couple experienced DI coaches with Midwest and California recruiting connections.
Like what I'm seeing so far!
