Chris Dilks bracketology. Definitely agree that UND has earned the right to face the weakest team in the field which is St. Lawrence.

    Loveland Regional

#1 Minnesota vs. #4 Lake Superior State

#2 St. Cloud State vs. #3 Boston University

    Fargo Regional

#1 North Dakota vs. #4 St. Lawrence

#2 Minnesota State vs. #3 Minnesota Duluth

    Bridgeport Regional

#1 Boston College vs. #4 American International

    #2 Michigan vs. #3 Quinnipiac

    Albany Regional

    #1 Wisconsin vs. #4 Providence

    #2 UMass vs. #3 Omaha

So if there is an ounce of bracket integrity, he has moved Mankato to the overall 8th seed...for the team that is #1 in the PWR, won the regular season in their conference, and had 20+ wins....

  2. Now let’s place-

    fargo:  UND/St Lawrence

    LSSU/BU

    loveland:  Minny/Omaha

    SCSU/UMD

    albany:  Mankato/AiC

    WI/MI

    Bridgeport:

    BC/BSU

    uMass/Quinnipiac

swap UMD and MI and you are done!

    fargo:  UND/St Lawrence

    LSSU/BU

    loveland:  Minny/Omaha

    SCSU/MI

    albany:  Mankato/AiC

    WI/UMD

    Bridgeport:

    BC/BSU

    uMass/Quinnipiac

now will the committee Jack around with this bracket due to travel, etc...once the smoke clears from the back room and you can see the red leather chairs, we will know!

  3. So here it goes....start with quality win adjusted RPI and then add or subtract bonuses based on strength of conference.  NCHC gets +.03, Hockey East and Big10 gets +.02, ECAC and WCHA get no adjustment, Atlantic get -.03.

your top 16 teams in order:

UND, Mankato, Minny, BC, UMass, WI, SCSU, LSSU, BU, UMD, Michigan, BGSU, AIC, BSU, Quinnipiac, Omaha.

so, pressure test the conference factors.  I think we’ve been too generous with the WCHA with them getting 4 into the top 16.  So let’s go to PWR to compare teams in same conference.  This gets really hairy between BGSU and BSU.  BGSU has the better PWR, but BSU won the season series head to head.  BGSU also never beat Mankato nor LSSU.  Therefore Bemidji is in, BGSU is out.

St Lawrence is the 16 seed with a losing record, but an autobid out of a decimated conference.

so now I have: UND, Mankato, Minny, BC, UMass, WI, SCSU, LSSU, BU, UMD, Michigan,AIC, BSU, Quinnipiac, Omaha, St Lawrence

    ive got 4 NCHC, 3 Hockey East, 3 Big 10, 3 WCHA, 2 ECAC, and 1 Atlantic.

that corresponds pretty well with my conference point adjuster, the only real argument here is does CT or Providence bounce Bemidji?  CT has a losing record.  They are out.  Providence went 11-9-5, BSU went 15-9-3.  I’m giving it to the Beavers.

Again pressure testing my adjusters, I think you swap positions of AIC and Quinnipiac.  I also think Minnesota’s BiG10 title boosts them ahead of Mankato.  Therefore my 16 seeds in order:  UND, Minny, Mankato, BC, UMass, WI, SCSU, LSSU, BU, UMD, Michigan, Quinnipiac, BSU, AIC, Omaha, St Lawrence.

Tough to distribute the HEA teams to avoid first round matchups which I assume they still try to avoid.  This only has 6 teams flying which it sounds like ncaa is hellbent on. Fargo regional is brutal for bracket integrity.  In a perfect would I'd flip Lake St and St. Lawrence and Mankato and UMass.

    Fargo

    UND/Lake St.

    Minnesota St/Minnesota Duluth

    Loveland

    Minnesota/Omaha

    St. Cloud/Providence

    Bridgeport

    BC/AIC

    Q'pac/BU

    Albany

    Wisconsin/St. Lawrence

    UMass/Michigan

You have Wisconsin hopping Mankato into a 1 seed?

Do you think DU has an outside chance of getting in?

I don’t if it is a merit based selection.  If they get in, they will bounce teams with winning records who finished higher in both the conference tourney and the regular season.

just like I don’t think they take 5 from Hocjey East, I don’t think they take 5 from the NCHC

  6. I can’t see a scenario where they take 4 teams from the WCHA, so Northern absolutely holds the fate of Bemidji in their hands.  It’s Mankato, LSSU and either BSU or Northern.

I also can’t imagine them taking 2 from Atlantic hockey, so that tourney is really win or be done.  AiC or Canisius.

they also aren’t going to take 5 teams from hockey East, so if Lowell pulls it off, I think that torpedos Providence. BC, UMass, BU and either Providence or Lowell.

the ECAC is interesting. Quinnipiac is in.  So if St Lawrence wins, they will likely send 2 teams. It’s either Quinnipiac or Quinnipiac and St Lawrence.

big 10 should be set with Minny, WI, and MI.

NCHC has UND, SCSU and UMD.  Omaha is firmly on the bubble.

LSSU, Omaha, Bemidji and Providence are firmly rooting for Quinnipiac and UMass

    You youngin's ...

I remember the game where they put Archibald-Jensen-Dub out together.

I'd have rather kicked Satan's dog with him watching than play against that.

yikes!  I also seem to remember a game where they put Archie with Brennan and Dachyshyn too...I don't know if I'd want to play if I saw that trio across from me

I hope not.  NCHC and Big 10 will both be very unhappy.

    Fargo
    1. North Dakota vs. 4. Bemidji State
    2. Wisconsin vs. 3. Minnesota-Duluth

    Loveland
    1. Minnesota State vs. 4. Denver or Omaha
    2. St. Cloud State vs. 3. Notre Dame or Lake Superior State

    Bridgeport
    1. Boston College vs. 4. American International
    2. Quinnipiac vs. 3. Boston University

    Albany
    1. Minnesota vs. 4. Providence or Lowell or Army
    2. Massachusetts vs. 3. Michigan

Fargo is the Regional of Death...brutal regional if it ends up that way.  Three teams in there that could absolutely all win the national title if they advance out of Fargo.
Bridgeport is a cakewalk.  I would see BC advancing out of that without much trouble at all, they also get by far the easiest draw in round 1.

It's gonna be an interesting selection show on Sunday.

No way do they stack all the NCHC in 2 brackets.

  10. IMO...

    1. Teams that are in without a doubt:  UND, Minny, Mankato, BC, SCSU, WI, UMass, Quinnipiac, MI, UMD, BU
    2. Teams that are in at the moment (should be a little nervous):  AIC, Omaha, Providence, Bemidji, LSSU
    3.  Teams that have to win their tourneys to be in (still alive):  Lowell, Colgate, St Lawrence, Niagara, Northern Michigan, Army, Canisius
    4. Teams just on the outside looking in (need a miracle of somekind):  Bowling Green, DU, Notre Dame

    Picked the whole bracket

    Fargo - UND/LSSU  SCSU/Bemidji

    Loveland - UMN/UNO  UW/UMD

    Albany - Mankato/Providence  UM/BU

    Bridgeport - BC/AIC  UMass/Quinnipiac

1 Seeds - UND, BC, UMN, Mankato

I've got the same field.  My logic was running through the poll, the PWR (weak this year w/o interconference play but decent for comparing intraconference contenders), and RPI (also weak w/o interconference play also decent for comparing intraconference contenders).  I've given extra credit to the Big 10, Hockey East, and the NCHC.  I'm also assuming the favorites still playing are going to win, so no big surprises...although Lowell and BC are in OT right now...

12 teams are in the top 16 in the polls, pwr, and RPI:  UND, BC, Mankato, Minny, AIC, Quinnipiac, Bemidji, BU, Wisconsin, UMass, SCSU, and Bowling Green.

Teams that appear in the top 16 in one or two:  LSSU, Army, Clarkson, Omaha, Providence, Clarkson, Canisius, UMD, MI.

Strength of conference advances Omaha, Providence, UMD, and Michigan over the other bubble teams.

Weakness of conference dings Army, Clarkson, and Canisius.

LSSU was sitting one behind Bowling Green in the polls, was ahead of them on PWR and RPI- considering they are in the same conference and LSSU is still playing, I think LSSU is the last team in and they bounce Bowling Green who is the first team out.  You could really make a case for DU who is sitting 21st, but they are what their record shows, not how close they were to being a tourney team.  Omaha is also sneaking in, and a case could be made for Bowling Green over Omaha.

    So I'm going with:

1 seeds:  BC, UND, Minny, and Mankato

2 seeds:  UMass, WI, SCSU, Quinnipiac

3 seeds:  Michigan, AIC, UMD, and BU

4 seeds:  Bemidji State, Providence, Omaha, and LSSU

The result of this is 4 Hockey East, 4 NCHC, 3 Big 10, 3 WCHA, 1 ECAC and 1 Atlantic

  12. CA has 3 sanctioned AAA hockey teams (Jr Kings, Jr Ducks, Jr Sharks) per birth year PeeWee through Midget..that’s 3...in a population of 40M people...or 3 in a population bigger than the country of Canada.  Of course the population that loves hockey is probably 10%, whereas in Canada it’s probably 70%.

T1EHL AAA is different than spring/summer AAA.  I agree with the posters saying most of those are pure ego plays and cash sucks.  “select” “elite” “AAA” all way over-used and over-sold terms.

The other danger is that when parents shell out big $, they expect W’s.  So winning becomes prioritized over development.
