22 needs to be creating. I like him with Gaber more than I like Blake with Gaber. Gaber is an elite finisher. 22 is an elite playmaker. Blake can do both, but he strikes me as a difficult player to play with in terms of how he reads the ice and attacks. It’s kinda unconventional and the result of his individual gifts. That is likely part of what makes him special in that he’s hard to manage defensively because of it, but that also makes him hard to play with as a line mate. Kid is rookie of the year, I’m not knocking him at all, and I could be wrong, but anyway, back to the portal.

My comment on 22 is based on what I saw last summer vs what I saw this season. He was in the wrong role with wrong linemates. I think he’s vastly more talented than he was able to showcase. When you’re in that spot you get torn because you don’t want to look like a quitter (especially when you did get ice time) but you also want to ensure you have the ability to develop to your potential and are aligned with the staff.

I’m watching closely to see if 22 goes into the portal. If he does, it is a full indictment of the staff IMO. Kid is probably sick to his stomach in terms of the consequences of either choice.
The game is changing on Bubs….he’s not out in front of it and needs to adjust now.

The outcome of this season was sadly predictable, but I haven’t supported this team since the Doug Smail and Craig Ludwig days based on outcomes alone.
The process and product are what is currently suspect. In the slow start Hakstol era, we knew the process would get the boys contending in March and April. Elite talent was exciting to watch even in a losing streak. Speed, skill, physicality defined Sioux hockey. It was better to be a perpetual bridesmaid than not be invited to the wedding at all…to be a program that is a perpetual contender that just can’t get over the hump is vastly better than being middle of the pack.
We need to get that back or we risk losing both recruits and community fanaticism and falling into a spiral of mediocrity. In my book Brad has a short leash. He needs to re-tool his coaching staff for sure, and he needs to look hard at his players and his beloved culture. Right now it ain’t working.

While that take is a bit overdone by Gopher fans the perception is understandable. The average college senior is 21.5 or so. ND has 15 on the roster over the age of 22. Of the 7 Canadiens on the roster the average age is 22 with two of them being 24. The average age of the top 5 scorers for ND is 22.5 wiht 2 of them from Canada that are 23 and 24 years old. The average age of UMTC's top 5 scorers is 20 with two of them being 18 which is a age ND does not even have on its roster nor is there a skater on the UM roster that is from Canada. Does ND have a roster loaded with 24 year old Canadiens? No. Does ND have the success it has had over the years without overaged players coming from various places including Canada? Also no.
Everyone of ND's players is legal, within the rules and 100% a valid player but let's not pretend there isn't a basis for the perception.
I seem to remember a 17 year old Canadian with a strange name that played for us a few years back. I heard he had a little success playing in Chicago after UND.

Somebody on here said it best. That is a celly that is only acceptable if its a GWG in OT....AND you should eye up a kid in your colors and toss it that way, not just randomly into the crowd.

So? Are we supposed to wait until we play weaker teams to expect wins? Either we are a Top 10 program in the nation or we aren't. Are we now satisfied with playing good teams close? The NCHC schedule will be tough every weekend; I hope we have our issues figured out before Christmas.
So…Let’s Dance!! (caddy shack)
my point is sometimes your horse isn’t as fast, but you still ride him.

Nope, never happy with a loss. At some point, we need to learn how to close out games.
That is a very stacked Gopher Roster

That was a playoff type game last night. Minnesota's horses made one more play than we did. I am pleased with the result. On paper, Minnesota is better than we are, so to play them as tough as we did is a positive. Lots more shifts this season! Let's go!

if the puck leaves and enters the offensive zone and isn't possessed by the attacking team, and attacking players are still behind the play in the offensive zone, it is a delayed offsides; requiring all attacking players to clear the offensive zone before they can legally possess the puck in the offensive zone.

Rule question regarding the controversial offsides: does Jamernik have to tag up before Caulfield crosses the blue line, or does Jamernik just have to tag up before Caulfield touches the puck?
every player has to be out of the zone, so Jammy has to tag up before Caufield crosses the blue line

Owen Mac's pass to Gaber was a thing of beauty. He really impressed me at USA hockey arena this summer. Blake did not overly impress at USA hockey arena, but his body of work speaks for itself, and that was a great individual effort on that goal...like amazing. Those 2 are both likely 3-4 year players, so I am excited to see what they develop into, because it could be amazing.

Bitch about it on the internet and feel sorry for ourselves because our lives have not turned out the way we expected and UND hockey is the only thing in the world we base our happiness on??????
LOL...I also base my happiness on living vicariously through my children, and if they lose and UND loses...there's always alcohol

Random takes perusing the new roster:
- Somebody get Owen McLaughlin a sandwich ... stat!
- Between grad students and fifth years, six roster slots; throw in traditional fourth year seniors, nine slots
- 16 of 27 are under six feet tall
- I track a stat that @PCMalways enjoyed: Linear Density (wt in lb divided by ht in inches). If you can skate better than average and your LD is ~2.7 or better it's really hard to knock you down. There are 7F, 4D, and a G at 2.68 or better. I suspect that's coming with an older squad this year (testosterone kicking in on age 20+ males).
- Jackson Kunz is mucho-grande hombra (LD is 228/75 or 3.04!)
I saw Owen McLaughlin at USA Arena during a World Juniors practice evaluation. He was the second best player on the ice that day behind Isaac Howard. He will be an excellent player for us.

With Celebrini choosing BU, I have to think it’s only a matter of time before his teammate Eiserman commits there…our best hope is that BU ran out of full rides

Cole Eiserman is a NewEngland kid…he’s also the absolute real deal. Fingers crossed.
aidan Park would be a really nice get too.

Yea, Omac is top 6. To those worried about Blake….he’s not going anywhere. Nowhere near NHL ready
