  1. As I watched the 2nd period of the Mavs vs. Gophers I saw Mike Vannelli take a guy down after the whistle and push his head into the ice. The Mavs player skated into the crease but was skating away from the goalie who had frozen the puck. To my astonishment Campion gave not only Vannelli a penalty but the Mavs player as well, but that is a topic for another thread.

I was at the game earlier this season when Vannelli instigated a fight against Rory McMahon, and McMahon beat the living day lights out of him. Yes, McMahon did win that fight. I have the video and McMahon clearly lands more punches.

Tell me, is there a bigger hockey goon in the WCHA or anywhere else?

  2. ESPN does love Duke, not really the point though.

The sister comment is beyond bad, if the person who had the sign knew how old JJ's sister was.  If not, it was dumb, but not that big of a dael.  The worst one I thought was the student who had a shirt with JJ's picture on it that said "I"m gonna name my kid JJ" on the front and "And beat him every day" on the back.  JJ summed it up well though about the people who call him at 3 in the morning to tell him he sucks, "Get a Life."

Just a question, when we taunted Jeff Finger for getting himself locked in the airport bathroom or when UMD fans taunted Brandt for the pulltabs, was that personal life?  Much more importantly though, I'm gonna be on the penalty box this weekend, what should I taunt the UMD players about?

Ummmm...how about how they play hockey? How about where they play hockey?

I'm not saying you can't bring their personal life into, but don't talk about their sister. That's just wrong.

  3. I agree that UMD is a complete team compared to other conferences however, they were picked to finish firts and the coaches poll so you tell me how important Lessard was to a team that will likely finish sixth.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I'm not saying Lessard wasn't important, but UMD had a lot of upperclassmen that were non factors this year (T.J. Caig was a huge dissappointment).

  4. Ooops unlike you age seems to be claiming my memory. I seem to recall that Panzer got all or nearly all the Sioux goals in one of the playoff game that year but the fact remains that beyond Miller the Spartans didn't have a team to match the Sioux. As for MVPs like Hrkac, Gretzky et al. They were exceptional players in that they could still stand out on powerhouse teams. My only point is that it is easier to stand out as an MVP on an incomplete team. Look at Giguerre of Anaheim and Kiprusoff of Calgary, two other goaltenders who carried teams further than they should have gone. UMD doesn't look very complete without Lessard this season now do they? :silly:

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

UMD is more complete than most other teams in the nation. You have to realize that the WCHA is the best conference and that everyone of the teams can beat each other. UMD is more complete than you think my friend.

  5. Just like in Pro hockey, the winner of an MVP award like the Hobey has typically stood out above his peers because he has clearly carried the team in some shape or form.  Therefore, quite often, the team with the hockey MVP is not good enough or complete enough to win a champonship.  Look at the year that Miller was selected over Panzer, yet Panzer lit him up for two goals in the playoffs.  Panzer was the best player on another powerhouse Sioux team while Miller carried a Michigan State Team that was even more offensively challenged than the current Sioux.  It is why the Sioux have only one Hobey winner to date and why this year you have so many names from marginal teams.

I don't get your point. You're saying the players who win MVP awards play on average teams. I don't think the NHL MVP last year, Martin St. Louis, played on an average team. I don't think the Avalanche were too average when Forsberg won the MVP award, I think Gretzkey played on some decent Oilers teams when he won the award. As for the Hobey, you'll have to give me more than one example of the winner playing on an average team. Hrkac didn't play on an average team. Marty Sertich's CC team isn't average when you compare them to the rest of the country.

  6. Marty Sertich deserves this award most definitely. He has been consistent throughout the year, and he plays on a great team. His teammate, Brett Sterling, also has made a strong case for 1st place as well.

Of course, I do have a WCHA bias. :silly:

  7. We are definitely sitting a lot better than we were with just Lammy. J Parise is hott right now, and who play whoever gives you the best chance to win.

Anything less than a sweep at JBSU and we can flush this Wisconsin series down the toilet.

  8. These Wisco announcers aren't to fond of the Campion. They're complaining about the low number of penalties. I kind of like it when both teams can play physical, aggresive hockey. It's not fun to watch when a ref calls every little hook, clutch, and grab.

  9. It's too bad Fox Sports Minnesota won't have the game. Instead of showing another rerun of Summer Sanders and the Sports List. Why couldn't they just pick it up from Fox Sports Wisconsin though?

  10. Since we're on the topic of ripping off, wouldn't you think that Duluth would want to get their own colors.  Especially when they have that identity crisis and need to change their name to "THE" university of Minnesota Duluth.

I know UMC is also Maroon and Gold.  Was this a Minnesota institution thing that they had to match the U of M?

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I think that is something to do with it. U of M Morris has similar colors as well.

  11. Notre Dame can go take a long walk off a really short pier. I get so darn sick of hearing how great they think they are. NEWS FLASH: They're not good at anything! They stink at basketball, football, and not to mention hockey. I've never really seen the whole appeal to Notre Dame, and I never will.

North Dakota better keep using the ND logo!
