  1. You are delusional if you think Holy Cross has ANY chance at all. Ohio State(a bad team) beat them 4-0 while outshooting them 44-14.

Tony Quesada (Holy Cross goalie) 2.18 GAA (11th in DI) and .928 S% (5th in DI).

Kellen Briggs (Minnesota goalie) 2.51 GAA (26th in DI) and .906 S% (46th in DI).

That's all you need to know.

  2. I suppose I'd rather be in the Sioux's position, but I think the Gophs aren't in as much trouble as people are saying. In my opinion, the goaltending wasn't THAT bad on Friday. 3 or 4 of Briggs' goals were tipped in, which means we need to work a lot harder in our defensive zone at taking the body and breaking the puck out. If the whole team can do that, the goaltending falls into place.

I didn't get a chance to watch all of the championship game, but didn't St. Cloud handily outshoot the Sioux? It looked like St. Cloud was playing very tough, and that Goepfert had his worst weekend of his life, yet the Huskies made a game out of it by the end of the 2nd period. Although I think think the Sioux are a fine team, I'm not ready to say they are the favorite to win it all (same applies to the Gophs, however).

This whole tourney is pretty wide open. If Miami gets hot, the might have a shot.. if Wisco stays hot, they have a great chance. And it looks like BU is a real contender from out east. I can't wait for this weekend to come, we should all be treated with some amazing college hockey!!!

Oh my good Lord! :D Take off your maroon and gold blindfold and look at reality. If the Gophers would've won the Final Five and beaten each team by 10 goals you would be saying they will breeze through the NCAA. However, they got embarassed (face it), but you "suppose" you would rather be in the Sioux's position. Admit it, your team just got rocketed into reality last weekend.

If Potulny doesn't play out of his mind and Briggs doesn't do anything different, your boys will have a difficult time against Holy Cross.

  3. I don't have enough info for a full-scale scouting report. One of the players, a Canadian law student, assures me that if only he and 5 teammates of his choice played, their skill level would be senior league-equivalent. Not as good as Warroad Lakers, though, I'm told.

There's some Canucks playin' eh? That'll be some good hockey.

  4. I'm announcing that all fans attending the regional are welcome to watch the UND Law School hockey team play the first two games of a best-of-three series against the team from the Med School. Rules are being negotiated as I post. Game time is Saturday, the 25th, at 11:30 a.m. at Purpur Arena, corner of Washington & Demers in Grand Forks. Second game Sunday at 2 p.m., also at Purpur. No charge to attend.

I would love to watch a bunch of smarties diddle around with a puck. Just curious, how many of those playing in this event played high school hockey?

  5. JONATHAN TOEWS: skated thru the whole da#$ team at least twice, made a bunch of just sick plays, ending up with a goal and 2 assists in the title game. Smart in his own zone.

Toews looked unbelievable out there last night. There was a couple times when he was bringing into the offensive zone all alone, except for 2 or 3 Huskies in his jock. The moves he made to get by them incredible and if there would've been another Sioux player for him to pass it would've been an easy goal.

Surprisingly, the St. Cloud goalie, Goepfert, kept them in the game last night. The first half off the game looked like the Sioux were going to embarass the Huskies, but near the end Goepfert actually gave St. Cloud a slim chance. I had never seen or heard of Goepfert before his 7-goals against game vs. the Goophers, and I figured he was a first-year walk on. He looked silly playing against the Sioux in the first period or so. To my astonishment, I looked at his season stats after the game and he is averaging 2.20 GAA and .924 S%. He must've been a completely different goalie during the regular season.

  6. Hak will probably be careful with Stafford. If he's not ready then playing him will do both Drew and the team more harm than good. Even though him being out has been a positive for team development we'd be even better now with him back at full speed.

You think he partially tore a ligament? Reading between the lines I think that's what may have happened, a nick that required no repair and to wait and see how it responds. Sometimes they are fine with no lasting effects within a few weeks. Sometimes longer though. Another common impact knee injury is a little bone chip at the ligament attachment that also needs no repair but can take longer to heal. Best case would be a deep bruise with no ligament involvement, but those can hurt like hell for months and keep you out longer. Bottom line I wouldn't hold my breath expecting him to return and be productive this quick.

I'm glad Smaby didn't damage his neck when he hit the boards tonight. He came back from that and really played hard and planted someone in the 3rd period. He had a good game tonight except for maybe once again getting an unneccesary penalty but I can't really recall the circumstances without rewatching the game.

Get some rest boys, hug your gals and don't drink too much. It's showtime.

My bro and I saw Drew walking around the X during the St. Cloud game. We told him to heal quickly and he gave us a nod. He'll be fine.

  7. I would now like to perform my best Gopher fan impression.

This game against Wisconsin really doesn't mean anything. We're really looking towards the NCAA tournament and if we win today it would be nice, but if we lose it doesn't matter. We're the number one team in the country and we lost to the 18th ranked team in our backyard, but it doesn't matter. It's just a hockey game and there are more important things.

Now, I will do my best Sioux fan impression, which is pretty much my normal voice.

Minnesota can't even win with three extra players on the ice for a whole 60 minutes. Imagine how they'll do in the NCAA tournament when they have to play even strength the entire game. Go Sioux!

  8. Did anyone see the play with about one minute left in regulation when the puck was sitting still in the crease behind Frazee? A Husky was standing there and he jabbed his stick at the puck to push it in, but a Gopher hooks him with his stick and hauls him down to the ice, while Frazee lays back on the puck. For some mind boggling reason they give a penalty to the Husky for roughing the goaltender. The puck was sitting in the crease untouched by anyone and a Husky pokes at the puck and gets a penalty. I don't think he even touched Frazee.

Then, while on the powerplay, Potulny one-times it to get the Gophers within one. It was a ridiculous call that shouldn't have even entered the refs head. I am sick and tired of WCHA refs trying to control games by making phantom calls. It's not fun to watch. Last night's game should have never gone into regulation.

I would love to hear what Gopher fans think of this. The maroon and gold fans I have talked to seem to think it's OK because these kinds of calls balance themselves and all the teams get the same amount of wrong calls going there way. However, I have seen it too many times go in the Gophers favor.

  9. I have to say that last night's win was one of the sweeter in recent memory. This team played with a lot of heart for the entire game. You can tell they are on a mission. The freshman are stepping up in a huge way and it will be exciting to see what they do in the NCAA when they get Big D back.

Tonight's game will not be easy to win, but won't be as crucial to play a full 60 minutes of top-notch hockey. Last night, the Sioux could hardly afford to make many mistakes with such a great goaltender in Elliott. Tonight, I think Jordy can shut down the eight goal Huskies we saw against the Gophers.

I have come to the conclusion that Briggs is continuing the Gopher tradition of mediocre goaltending. He was playing pretty good during the regular season, but after last night I have no respect.

I wish I could go to the boxing match at the X today at 2:30 between heavyweights Wisconsin and Minnesota, but I have to save my money so I can go insane at tonight's championship game. Oh yeah baby! Go Sioux!

  10. If the program was worth its weight they would be playing AA. I know they are a small school, but they have enough kids to play AA, they are afraid to go up against the big boy's night after night.

Either that or they don't have money coming out of their ears like urban schools do. I'm sure there is a financial cost to playing the "big boy's" night after night.

  11. they didn't even go out and recruit any new talent before this season started!! they let the kids that have been there forever go out and try to win it all....that in itself is a huge testament to the program... :whistling:

(sorry bout that, didn't mean to kick the horse before it had a chance to get back up...GO GREENWAVE!!)

What do you get when you pick your nose? Green Wave! Green Wave!

  12. There is no sense to be debating this topic. We should be debating why we are so inconsistent. The goalie situation should be the least of our worries.

The only problem with Jordan is that I think he is giving up untimely goals. He will come around and help the Sioux make a run through the playoffs as they usually do.

  13. I have a number of cards. Sorry I don't think I have a Zach Parise, but I do have a Jordan Parise. Here is a list of all the players I have. E-mail me if you are interested.

  14. Brilliant comeback. I'm glad to see that course in remedial logic is finally paying off for you. With your continued hard work, and diligence, I'm sure the boss will probably let you wring your own mop in the near future.

    Haha you're wrong. I don't even have a job.

  15. Attended my first Gopher fan in 1973 and have been a HUGE fan ever since.

I didn't say you have to agree with the article, I said I think it's stupid for UM fans to think we and our program are better than UND and vice versa. It's a petty argument that cannot be won nor proven.

And what you think of Gopher fans is part of a never ending cycle that imho is lame. Sioux fans have the same percentage of d-bags as Gopher fans, as Badger fans, as... But if you really, really want to believe that Gopher fans are more cocky and whiney then accept the fact a number of Gopher fans think the opposite to be true. Doesn't really get us anywhere does it.

I will prove it right now. 7 national championships. There, I just won the argument. I'm sure I sound cocky, but Gopher fans tend to bring that out in me.

Thinking your team is better than their rival is part of being a fan. To say that argument is lame is dumb. Being a fan is about arguing.

  16. UND and UM fans both have a lot to be proud of regarding their respective programs. I don't think one is any "better" than the other, they're just different.

Excuse me while I go puke. Puh-lease. You must not be a fan of either program.

It was a very well written piece, but that doesn't mean I agree with it. He fails to mention the lack of sportsmanship Gopher fans possess.

When the Gophers win their fans are cocky, but when they lose the whine like little school boys who just got a wedgie.
