  1. I guess this means we (USF) will be heading back up to Grand Forks..officially. There had been much talk of a buy-out..and I'm glad that didn't happen. Heck, I would have loved to have made a return trip up to UND this season. Our last NAIA game is tmrw..vs Carroll College (Helena, MT)....and D2 from there. Much the same for Black Hills and Minot both. (we also play them next season, as we all transition) Too bad we can't get the Sioux to play a game in Sioux Falls..but that's the nature of playing-up.
  2. USD looked harder to stop than in the past with their very speedy QB..and the downfield targets he's got. Kinda figured Chuck Morrell would be able to keep the Sioux in-check. Once his guys fully learn his system, that defense will only get better in the years to come. The Yotes used their TE much like USF did last year against the Sioux..gobbling yards. Looks like the Yotes could be a pretty tough team in their building this year. (keep in mind, I'm a Sioux Falls person..not a USD person) Good luck the rest of the year Sioux fans. See you guys next season when we come up there again.
  3. I saw that Bamba got off to a decent start last year, and then seemed like more of a deep THREAT than anything (from the games I saw). I did see your new WR (from NE if I recall right) had a huge game in the one I was watching..but I couldn't tell if it was also due to the opponent. I could see Jake hitting your new target against USD, but not in the frequency that he's been recently. I was just asking about Bamba because I remember how USF gameplanned around him last year a fair amount, due to his gamebreaking abilities..
  4. ..in the little bit that I've followed the Sioux, it seems like Sutton is always hurt..like it's expected. As for the Morrell USD defense....they haven't played all that well so far, but they did shutdown the Gophers running game and force the pass. With Morrell having gameplanned well for the Sioux just last year, he will be familar with the Sioux and how to thwart them. However, Bamba was a big part of the gameplan last year and I watched the Sioux game the other day (midco cable) and they didn't mention anything about Bamba not being there. In an effort not to hi-jack this thread about Bamba....92,96 can you PM me what's the deal with him..I assume suspended for the year or something. He's was kinda a difference maker..
  5. USD at home. Former DC for USF Chuck Morrell was able to stop the Sioux with lesser athletes last season....so they plug the run an the Sioux makes mistakes in the passing game..while the USD offense gets points early and make the Sioux play chase on the road.. USD 30 UND 17
  6. I got no intel on the Sioux Falls side that this game has been bought out. There was tons of rumor shortly after last years game....but that was about it..
  7. ....and the former USF DC goes to USD....kinda interesting for UND fans....they shall meet again.. http://www.keloland.com/sports/college/New...39.cfm?ID=97866
  8. The interest and story from NDSU was kinda legit....they had interest....but it wasn't a good fit (being an offensive coach, etc) Here is a pretty complete link of the story..and the press conf.. http://www.argusleader.com/article/2010020...307/1002/sports
  9. ..exactly.. Kalen is an offensive guy..Chuck Morrell (his former asst) was the defensive guru fella. NDSU wanted them..yes....all said, very smart move here for Kalen. (I know all about the Mary situation, etc etc...USF was FAR BETTER than Mary, truth be told....) ....frankly, the second USF handled UND, I knew the time was short before Kalen would get gobbled up....that said, he's a friend and I'm happy for him....his replacement for a budding D2 program could come from the FCS ranks though....I would imagine Luke Meadows (OC at SDSU) might be at the top of the list....seeing as he applied at Northern State a few months ago....but I could be wrong..
  10. Kalen is now fast-tracking to be a head coach at SIU....if Lennon goes FBS (likely in short order)....so I think it's got a lot more to do with that, than with USF going D2. The USF team you guys saw this year (and last few years) would have done just fine in D2....just fine..
  11. Damn....u guys are fast. Yup....only a matter of time, and I think Kalen really made the best decision possible..with Lennon fast-tracking to the next level likely. Was a fantastic run for USF people, but just like that..the USF football dynasty is over..
  12. Montana job.. They did 8 phone interviews today....looking to narrow it down to 3. I have confirmation that Carroll College MVD did interview over the phone today. The others mentioned as well..
  13. NWOSU on the Sept 18th....Patrick Crayton's old school back in 2003 (they beat USF in the semis)......they wont just lay down, storied NAIA program looking at D2 in the next 4-5 years. They were on probation this year for an illegal player in 2008, but they would have won their conference this year on the NAIA level and been a playoff team. I realize that doesn't hold a lot of weight in the FCS world....but they are better than S. Oregon....as a point of reference..and had the leading RB at the NAIA level this year....a JR. (their head coach had a heart attack a few weeks ago..still recoving....kinda hairy deal....has beef with the AD apparently as well, despite having a good record..odd situation) Anyway....think I might come down to watch that NWOSU vs USD game....see how NWOSU stacks up...my initial thought is 17-20 point dog on the road.
  14. ....here is what I've heard from the NAIA world....(regarding Montana, etc) Word I got is that DeBoer (and staff) are comfy where they are at, right at the moment anyway..(NDSU was the hard rumor for them, but unless that comes on hard here soon, word is that it's not gonna happen....not a fit)....and that while offers are out there, there's nothing that's seemingly a perfect fit for their coaching interests..at this moment. DeBoer could go as an OC (and his asst Morrell as a DC) to a few different places....but time will tell if Kalen wants to be an OC again (like in the past), or with his success as a head coach (56-1 in the last 4 years, 3 National Titles) if he's rather wait out his ideal fit for a head job..likely at the FCS level. (USF goes to D2 in the 2011 season) MVD from Carroll....was gonna interview (Montana asked to speak with him), but then he saw it was gonna be a dog and pony show for the opening, and he withdrew interest. He's not about the glam and spotlight too much..as neither is Morrell, mentioned above....(he would have been a legit candidate though, fantastic leader of a program) Seems that Robin Pflugrad (Wide Recievers Coach UM), Brent Pease (Asst. Head Coach / WR Coach Boise State), and Dave Doeren (DC Wisconsin). The default answer seems to be Pflugrad, as the lead horse..but certainly they have options. Of course other names might not have risen to the surface..as the last few coaches they've had weren't obvious selections heading into the process. Glenn is in AZ apparently and has no interest in the position. Later Sioux Folks....have a good holiday..stay safe in this messed up weather..
  15. ....thank you. USF plays Lindenwood U, school of about 15k (near STL) in the chip....and they are unbeaten and going to D2 in a few years also....a handful of D1 athletes, very fast, etc. Should be a shootout..(Dec 19th, Rome-GA, CBS College Sports) http://www.ksfy.com/sports/headlines/78610052.html That's the latest with the Coo....been a fun ride over the years....given graduation and our coaches being rumored offers from everywhere, we are enjoying things while it lasts. Something tells me that the 2011 trip to the Alerus, USF will be bringing a much different group..but that's a long way away right now. In any event, looking forward to the return trip to the Alerus....classy fans, good people. Later.
  16. http://www.masseyratings.com/rate.php?lg=cf ....I'm posting these for entertainment purposes only..(a lot more numbers than common sense)
  17. MK....totally understand what you mean. I'd love to make another trip up there, mostly cuz it's a fun (nothing to lose) matchup for the Coo....but I realize the risk associated for the Sioux. I assume when the Sioux made the game that they feel there was much risk..as most NAIA teams get thumped at this level, etc. I will assume the game is gonna be "on" until I see/hear otherwise. Thanks.
  18. I know some users suggested that the 2011 game vs USF wont happen, that it would get bought out....I assume that was merely talk....and I assume it's still slated to take place up there? (USF will be D2, transition year, in 2011)
  19. Nice win to end the season Sioux peeps..
  20. ....another NAIA team for the Sioux, but this isn't USF....by any means. Southern Oregon is an independent team in the NAIA, without a conference. As a result of that, they play a combo of teams....NAIA, D2, etc. Here is some brief info about them from the old VSN site.. http://football.victorysportsnetwork.com/t...hp?schoolID=134 They aren't a playoff team at the NAIA level..but I would say they are about even with the better DAC teams from up in ND. As a close NAIA follower, I think UND should win this game comfortably....I'd be shocked if it was less than a 14 point game...probably more like 24-28 point difference in this one..once the smoke clears. USD beat them last year 37-0.
  21. ....uh....let's not talk about DeBoer going anywhere....even though it's a real possibility....USD....or others...who knows...maybe even the Sioux or Bison..? (As a Coo fan, hope not)
  22. As a USF person, I'm not going to say or suggest that the Coo is better than SDSU or any such speculation. The Jacks have a very good football team this year (and last) and I don't fully buy into the transitive property thing..team A beats team B..etc. If so, USF would beat Nebraska and so forth..(using Texas Tech and UND as the other teams in the calculation) To an extent, it ends up being fuzzy math..and each game is itself. Seeing that USF is making another trip up to the Alerus in 2011..I want to see UND be a good team, not a struggling team....as any USF fan likes to see the team tested and such. ....looks like a healthy Mitch Sutton provides the Sioux a nice spark..very talented athlete. USF will be playing a Sioux team in 2011 with Sutton, Bamba, Hawkins, etc. The Sioux should be getting better in the coming years....not worse. (just an outsiders take on things)
  23. Happy for you UND peeps....that the season didn't go into the toilet after the USF game. Looks like a big win and rebound from previous weeks. Congrats.
  24. Sioux83, I'm done battling on here. It's just been unreal for us USF folks that our Coo can't get a lick of respect from SD people even after their only non-NAIA game in recent history. Oh well.. Frankly...98% of the people on this board seem like really good fans who can see things from both sides of the tracks. Sorry that the USF versus USD/Augie banter spilled over to here. I'm done.
  25. UND folks, I'm sorry for your message board turning into the "why we handled the Sioux"....etc. Frankly I felt fired upon and a general lack of respect (still do) from Yote as he's heavily implied that this was a lucky win on all fronts. Yote....you still wont give USF any credit for this win....that's fine, I get it....hater.. How good a team is coached and the adjustments made within a game have a lot to do with shaping how good a football team is....it's not only about the athletes you have out there. Coaching can play a HUGE part in how good a football team is..or how they seemingly under-perform with easily superior talent. USF is FAR BETTER coached than UND..and that's not a 1 game thing. I hate to say it, but Kalen DeBoer has already gotten offers in the past..and will continue to in the future by much bigger schools than USF. I hope he doesn't leave, but I wouldn't be suprised to see him at one of the schools mentioned on the thread here in the coming years if they make him a huge offer. If he's got the talent of the UND team..and plays an NAIA team....this game would have been over at half. Wait a second....this one already was..
