  1. Agree completely with you & hrkac. I will be the first to admit that I am not a hugh hakstol fan but this teams shortcomings are mainly talent related in my opinion and not coaching. Lets face it, nothing against Pattyn, but he is a fourth line player at best on a really good team and not second line/power play guy like he is at UND. Luke Johnson is nice player and may become a really good player but he is not ready for a 1st/2nd line role.

TO me the real question is what happen to our top notch recruiting. So we lost a couple of players - so what, every elite program has. That goes with the territory. Losing an elite recruit here and there should not decimate you team of top level talent and in fact should factor in to one's recruiting plan. Miami has been hit hard by defections the last year or two yet they still have 3-4 top end offensive players on their team that we would kill for (to have just one) this year.

The two losses I am you are referring to are Miller and Matteau. We also missed Seth Jones. How many non visible recruits did we miss out?

  2. I guess all i'd say to that is if you thought this roster was going to be top 10 in the nation and a frozen four team, you're delusional. You could see it from a mile away that this was somewhat of a rebuilding year, de-commits being the main reason why. i'm not a blind Hakstol apologist but i do go defending a bit because some of the things spewed here are ridiculous. This board has too many "great hockey minds" talking about systems and chipping the puck off the glass. Yes, Starman was correct in saying they needed to get off the wall and to the middle. well, the fact was that the players couldn't get there. Miami shut them down and forced everything outside. Is that coaching or that maybe these guys just aren't good enough? Oshie, Toews, Frattin, etc.. could've won a championship with you behind the bench, but they didn't.

Well said, I didn't think it, but I sure hoped, cheered and dreamed for it. I want a championship, but not enough to engage in embarrassing behavior on a message board. As much pride as I have in the program, I am becoming embarrassed of the fans on this website. I actually hope most fans do not behave like this, but hearing the crowd taunting the coach last night was very embarrassing. Stay classy Sioux fans.

  3. "Fan pressure" is the root of this program's ills. Your words not mine.

    Give me a break.

One of many roots: game strategy, lack of adaptation, CHL fishing from the same pool, curse of the Ralph,

but on my defense, surely you have noticed the way the internet has turn adults into childish, embarrassing, butt heads

  4. They don't pay that much attention to it...once the puck drops its just a kids game

So no players have twitter accounts, or are on facebook. No players get asked for autographs as a freshman. No players walk into the Ralph and go wow I better bring it every moment that I'm here. No players don't see the Stanley Cup wall at the Ralph and think how they need to excel to play at this level. I am not a great hockey mind, but I thought in 2011, players tried to do it themselves too much and I think that is what the empty net misses(well not totally empty) are stemming from. They need to relax and play it like a kid's game. The "sea of green" makes them want to try harder than they ever have...

  5. One of the reasons for our situation(IMHO) is fan pressure. These young men are exposed to a ton of pressure with all the social media that fans utilize. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't missing an open net considered a result of gripping the stick too hard as they say. The fancy rink, all the NHL connections, press conferences, social media may be too much for the average or slightly above average college player. Elite player (Toews, Oshie, Parise) relish that spotlight and pressure. The CHL has basically took our high end players that we needed to hit the net and forced the role players into that role. Just my thoughts on this sickening morning.

  6. A junior gold parent from Watford City told me that they had to really watch the rosters on the Fargo teams as there would be players on the list that were not at the game or added after the game. These players were on the high school team and played junior gold after the HS state tournament. The Fargo teams would be beatable all year and untouchable in the tournaments until the league caught on to their shenanigans. I guess they elevated their game.

I suspect the Devils Lake team in Bantam A-2 did the same thing this weekend. 2-18 on the season and come in and kick butt.

They are going to have to require photo IDs pretty soon.

  7. Everyone needs a sheppard? They just have cattle not sheep. :)

You are choosing a closed instance, if one in particular at all. And if they are, it's high school sports. The reason they were introduced in the first place is the life lessons they instill. The teamwork, selfless and selfishness of the world. What they have spun into is not perfect, but in the genuine spirit, they are still great. As a way to teach kids life lessons in a harmless manner.

This never ending recruiting spiel, is a pouting of haves and have nots. (Again, another life lesson) It's parents who want every kid to get a trophy. That applies to both sides of the argument.

:tinfoilhat: and when it's forty year old men bringing it up on the interweb it's usually sour grapes
