  1. You must be from a German farm family! I still drool thinking about some of that food in the Wishek and Napoleon area! Unfortunately, I came from Norskie and Scotch families. Haggis and Lutefisk doesn't cut it!
  2. Woody doesn't know hockey. But he's not much of a homer, and will give the other team credit if they win. Although, he does hate the Oakland Raiders. As well he should.
  3. I can't believe I read that someone thinks that Joe Sakic has a huge ego??? If you follow the Avs you would know that this is totally untrue. He carries a nickname of "Super Joe", yet when sportwriters approach him saying "Hi, Super Joe!" he respectfully asks them not to call him that. He's dead serious. He does not want to be set apart from the rest of the team. Sakic and the rest of the Avs have my respect as true professionals. They may be not be playing the way I'd like to see, but they are a class act. Is Roy cocky and arrogant? you bet. He's a goalie. he needs to have a huge ego and total confidence. enough said. So what if he doesn't take his helmet off during the national anthem(s). He isn't showing disrespect, he's just in his zone...like all the other goalies who do the same thing. The Wild are playing great, the Avs are a great team. This should be a great game. I'll be cheering whoever wins for the rest of their Stanley cup run.
  4. I just checked the ESPN.COM page, 56.1% believe that the Avs will win, 43.9% believe the Wild will win. I say we just go with this poll and forget about playing the game!
  5. Those damn Wild! Don't they know that the Avs have this one in the bag! What's the matter with them, trying to win this game/series. jeez..... Another game 7 for the Avalanche. If they lose the next one, I expect Pierre will be shopping for a new coach.
  6. I was watching the Avalanche news conference. They had a look of shock on their faces. The Avs went into this game talking about how they don't want to play a 6th game and they are taking the Wild seriously. Well, they had better take them seriously now! Gotta give credit to the Wild, they played a tough defensive game (as usual). It's getting interesting now. Damn that Minnesota hockey!
  7. I just checked the box score and didn't see Murphy on the roster or the scratch list. Did he get sent down again?
  8. I don't think their merchandise sales are making the point they want either. Living only 20 miles from the UNC campus, I've had several requests from friends in other states to buy these items and have them shipped to them. However, they aren't exactly the handwringing liberals who worry about politically incorrect nicknames. They just think it's a funny name and want the shirts/hats. (luckily, now I can tell them to order from that website.) I don't really care about the sales of the items. I think they are kind of funny and they seem to try to support some scholarship programs, which is always a good cause. BTW...I looked over the message board and appreciated your posts! Keep up the good work!
  9. I know I am rehashing old stuff, but...From what I understand Lucia's acceptance of the Gopher job was contingent on the ability to recruit out of state/country. When Brooks guided the U of M he was able to get the best talent in Minnesota every year. Only two schools in Minnesota (UMD + the gophers) had D-I hockey. The whole landscape for Brooks allowed him to do that AND be successful. Unfortunately for the Wooger, he either wasn't allowed to go out of state of just flat out didn't. Either way, it just doesnt' appear to be possible to win at the highest level without being able to recruit outside of Minnesota. If you could get the TOP Minnesota players, you might be able to succeed. But with about every college in the country sprawled all over the 10,000 lakes, keeping all the top talent in the maroon and gold is unrealistic. What sucks for UND fans is that the gophers got the right coach and the right conditions to be competitive not only in the WCHA, but also nationally. However, UND is in the hunt for future national titles. I wouldn't be surprised to see UND in the final four next year gunning for #8. UND has the tradition (remember what Herbie said!), the facility (no one comes even close) and the coaching staff (I'll match Blais with any college hockey coach). What is great for UND fans is that the Gophers are back and we not only get to battle to see who is the best in the WCHA, but who is the best in the country. Remember when the WCHA used to ALWAYS win the NCAA tourney? I think we could be coming back to that tradition also.
  10. Well, the Avs are undefeated when leading after three periods.... Just gotta throw some mud. Too bad Murphy got the healthy scratch. Hopefully he'll get some ice time up in St. Paul.
  11. I hate to say, but that was funny! I have a "ND" hat I like to wear which always seems to get the "Go Irish" fist in the air from the "Our Lady" fans out there. Because it is green and white, I will get a "Go Sioux" from a person who knows the difference. I still say they stole the logo from us. Is there any proof of this?
  12. It must be interesting up in Minnesota with the return to the NHL playoffs. I thought it would be fun to throw some smack and see who came out of the woodwork! I agree that the D could be tough for the Avs, the playoffs always bring out great defensive hockey. I think they have too many guns. The "pundits" around here think that if they don't take out the Wild in 5 games, the Avs won't get past Detroit. Outside of college hockey, the NHL playoffs are my favorite time of year.
  13. Apparantly, according to the AP we still need to fear Peter Sejna. Here is what I found in the AP story on todays Blues/Av's game on the ESPN web site. I don't know who this Eric guy is, but Peter could still be with CC! Damn fine reporting.
  14. Although the WCHA would wield more clout that the CHA, the fact is that this athletic director is just not currently interested in ice hockey. He feels that it is not a priority for the school. As far as Utah goes, the costs in Salt Lake City would be even more than out of Fort Collins to start a varsity program. I doubt that the Utes would add it either. Get BYU interested in a varsity hockey program, then that could change! Apparantly internal problems with the club hockey program at Utah have forced their club team to drop the "Ute" nickname. I don't know exactly what happened, but there seems to have been violations with ineligible players on their team. I know it's a side issue, but these internal problems may have created a PR issue that could possibly affect the future of any hockey program with the Utes. Although I don't think CSU varsity ice hockey will happen for a while, I would love to see it. I don't like driving to south Denver from Fort Collins on a snowy friday evening to watch college hockey.
  15. I just watched him score his first NHL goal against MY Avalanche. Jeez...this guy is a thorn in my side!
