The 501(C)(3) charity is the one that calls the overall shots, like a Board of Directors.  The other two official organizations are executives in charge of handling day to day operations.

Back in 2001 or later when the Betty was proposed, it made sense for UND athletics to go in by granting the REA 52% of basketball and football tickets to the REA.  Hyslop needed a replacement, the Ralph needed an attached area that would serve other purposes, like in did for the U20 World Juniors tournament and the Ralph could issue bonds for constructing the Betty, which UND is not allowed to do.  The Betty was also allowed to serve beer, which is forbidden at other locations on campus.  But the Betty had a very strict construction budget, unlike the Ralph.  Heard back then through a vendor that the Betty really went cheap on things a spectator wouldn’t see, like the quality of electrical devices and presuming roofing materials.   The Ralph on the other hand was built first class in everything.

But after 15 years, the Betty still hasn’t paid off those bonds, although mostly interest payments have been made.  But that agreement really constrains football to upgrade its facilities, and that is where Kennedy is most concerned IMHO.  Football shouldn’t be tied together with the Ralph.  If the 501(C)(3) board made an effort with the HPC or other facilities, there would be no concerns by me.  Maybe they have made efforts, but tha hasn’t been reported.

I agree football should not even be in this equation. That was a poorly negotiatied part. Football doesn’t even touch the Ralph.

A1%raise for all university employees would cost 2.16 million per year according to figures I received from the state office of budget.

What do you think all university employees thought when the hockey coach receives $100,000 per year raise and the rest of the employees can’t even receive a 1% raise.

I am a UND employee and we have not gotten a raise in two years. I am not upset that Berry got a raise it was a new contract and he isn’t getting 100k raise every year. I say good for him. Overall, no raises for UND employees is an absolute morale killer though but that is not Berry’s fault. At this point it is common knowledge that people just want to keep their jobs and will overlook no raises for now.

Trust me. He's far from a bully. If we are going to start a narrative, let's make sure we are darn sure of what we are talking about and not relaying second third hand garbage from the scamps at the Cenex coffee klatch.

You seem to be somewhat in the know so I am guessing you work at UND. Well, I work there too and I work with faculty and students every day. I can tell you this president is viewed very poorly. There will be a vote of no confidence coming down at some point. You just wait. There is a right way to do things and a wrong way and this president just doesn’t get it. He is out of his wheelhouse. He needs to go back to the business world. The UCF debacle hurt him more than you or him know. It has nothing to do with him being wanted by a bigger university. We may not be a desired location for many but if you come here we do expect you to be loyal. When that loyalty is broken you do not get it back.

  4. The people that spearheaded this are Diane Hillebrand, John Bridewell, Landon Bahl and Russ McDonald. I was pretty shocked that Lowell Schweigert went along with this. I thought he had heard the message from his constituents. The ones who should be commended are Karl Goehring, Jazmyn Friesz and Dave St. Peter. They put up a good fight but could not secure enough votes to keep UND/ND on the list. Since Hillebrand and Bridewell both said they were doing only what their constituents told them, they should be emailed and let known what the people really think of their decision.

  5. It's not just the library that is facing budget cuts most departments are getting their budget's cut as well. We are basically being told to do more with less while a specific VP on campus is trying to create their own kingdom and it appears that the person in charge is either asleep at the wheel or just incompetent. I had to post this with my alias account so that it doesn't get back to me. They are becoming so top heavy with Administrators that you have to pay those salaries some how. It seems every month they are hiring a new VP position. I used to think the leadership at this University had the best interest of the students, staff and faculty and that has completely changed. They are making so many decisions behind peoples backs that have huge implications and everyone is in the dark. Zero transparency and I know a lot of people are starting to get fed up with how they are running things. Could be a rude awakening for them when people start leaving en mass exodus.

  6. For TV personalities I am actually ok with Sweeney and Scanlan. I appreciate their local knowledge and knowing how to pronounce our players names year to year. I am sure to some they seem like homers but I feel they do a good job.

  7. Based on what I know its amazing this team won the amount of games this past year. Jones keeps talking about how they are family and the great chemistry they have. This is so far from the truth. The coaches do not treat hardly any of the players as so called family. When a player is down or needs help the coaches do nothing and basically ignore them. They communicate basically by text, thats right text. Players this year that did not travel where notified the day of travel by text and no explanations as to why. Basically dont pack you are not travelling. There is much more but I will jump to the chemistry issue. This team is divided big time amongst the players. You have Webb, Huff, Anderson, Antwi and Gentry on one side and the rest on the other side. These 5 call themselves the "five live" and was told after they won the championship these 5 formed a circle and celebrated among themselves while the others watched. If you closely watch games you can see they look for each other and not others. Many of you have mentioned how Jones has no discipline, that is true. He is so scared that huff is going to leave that he sais or does nothing to control him but yells at others all the time for the same mistakes that Huff makes but nothing is said to Huff. This causes alot of problems cause these players are not stupid. During one game a player asked Huff while on the bench why he doesnt cheer for the players on the court, Huff said F*ck you. Then this player asked again are you too good to cheer and he again said f*ck you. This is how it is. No chemistry at all. Dont know if these and other issues can be resolved but its going to take alot more from these coaches than they are showing. They must communicate and grow some balls. This is D1 basketball not elementary rec ball. so they need to start treating these players with respect and not just ignore them like they are nothing, ask Haugen how this goes. I hope these coaches grow, if not this team with its talent will be swallowed up in the Big Sky.

I wouldn't be surprised if Mr. Jones is shown the door soon. Maybe not this year but next year very luckily if things don't change and fast.

  8. If he does committ to UND we would only have him for a year or two correct? In this article he says He wants to play in the NHL the first year he gets drafted.

He probably would only be here one year maybe two tops. I still think he is going to go the Everett route but I sure hope I am wrong.

  9. No, they are a team of undrafted players.

Surely Bob Daniels recruited most of them to play in his system. (Walk-on means not recruited and has nothing to do with draft status.)

PS - Anyone else notice how much Bob Daniels looks like the FSU logo on their jerseys? :D

Ok. I will concede that point. I fixed my post, bad analogy.

  10. In late July/early August we expected …

Rodwell, O’Donnell, Grimaldi, St. Clair, and JT Miller to play a total of 200+ games.

We expected Panzarella, Senkbeil, and Pattyn to maybe see 30 total.

    And Gaarder? Who’s that?

    Instead,

Rodwell, O’Donnell, Grimaldi, St. Clair, and JT Miller play a total of 40 games in a UND jersey.

Panzarella, Senkbeil, Pattyn, and Gaarder play 145 games combined.

And we're still talking about a loss in a regional final.

    Devils Advocate

However IF Ferris State goes on to win the NC this argument will have failed. They have a grand total of 0 that's right 0 NHL draft picks on their team. You could say they are a team of Walkons Undrafted players.

  11. I have a feeling the only real flight risk at this point is Kristo. Brock is awesome but one more year in college and he will be really awesome and the same goes for Forbort. I guess time will only tell but in my opinion Kristo is probably gone, he can sign with the team that drafted him in 2008 (Montreal) now, refuse to sign and become a free agent this summer, or return to school for his senior season as a free agent. So you can guess which option Sioux fans would want him to take.

  12. Does anyone have a lead on finding the game on the internet? Justintv? Espn? ncaa? etc?

If you have internet through Midco you can go to http://www.espn360.com and view the live stream.

Very good quality, just like watching it on a TV.

Boy am I nervous for this one. Goofs are going to want some revenge. It will be hard to beat them twice in two weeks.

  13. Nice to have fellow college hockey fans stop by and especially new conference mates. Good luck to your team and ours this weekend. I am sure it will set the stage for some good battles in the future. We don't have much in these parts but good, honest people and we love our Sioux Hockey and we travel to the dark side of the moon for them.

    I agree. Welcome WMU fans.

  14. For anyone that hasn't seen it, here is Chris Dilk's latest attempt at humor if UND beats WMU and BU beats the Gophers. Wow, that's really not very funny. So now we are making light of sexual assaults I am sure the victims will be amused. .

Plus, North Dakota and Boston University could potentially meet in the second round of the tournament, setting up the 'Racists vs. Rapists' headline I've had locked and loaded for weeks now.

That's pretty over the top and I assume most who read that are offended. That really has no place in that article.

  15. Just listened to INCH podcast and their analyzes of the Regionals. So they pretty much think BC has got this locked up. They also didn't have much love for the sIoux and seem to think WMU will take us down. That is fine with me as they can predict all they want. That is what we have been hearing all year long from these so called pundents. I know WMU is a good team and we will have to be on our game just like it would be playing anyone else.
