  1. Look out for Shanley this season. -SHS Alumnus
  2. Point well taken jackrabbit. I have friends in Omaha, and believe me, people there don't care about UNO let alone people elsewhere in the country. Unless it involves the team in Lincoln, Nebraskans don't care.
  3. I would highly recommend this trip. I went up to Maine a couple years ago, and it was a great time. The rink is about the size of the old Engelstad, but is very unique, as it looks like a log cabin inside.
  4. I think Nebraska-Kearney would be an even better addition than Wayne St. Again, it would make for a natural travel partner with UNO, plus they have a great basketball program and decent football program.
  5. Are you so blinded by your hatred of NDSU that you actually believe this? NDSU decided to move UP, and the Sioux decided to stay put (probably a smart decision), but that doesn't mean NDSU tucked tail and ran. All the UND fans that say that simply sound stupid.
  6. Apparently the Fighting Sioux Network will be picking up the Duluth feed.
  7. Good news! Here's the link confirming that the Friday and Saturday games are BOTH on TV. http://www.wdio.com/index.cfm?viewer=\...ID=1667&queid=0
  8. I just got a call from a friend who said that WDAZ just announced Friday's game will be shown.
  9. ESPN is biased towards New England? How do you figure?
  10. Does anyone know whether the games this weekend will be on TV, particularly on Friday? I'm going to the Saturday game, but have to be in Minneapolis on Friday night. If it is on Friday night, I plan on going out to watch it. A friend of mine that lives in Duluth thought both games were being broadcast, but he wasn't 100% sure. Any info on this would be greatly appreciated.
  11. You poor, ill-informed soul. I'm sorry to see that you have such a surplus of free time that you can come here and post this garbage. I'm originally from Fargo (and actually just moved back after three and a half years living in Boston), and am always thankful that I didn't attend NDAC (aka NDSU). You and your fellow Bison fans come here and take shots at UND hockey because it's a successful D-I program, and frequently sing the praises of sports like NDSU wrestling. Now there's a sport no one cares about. By the way, the last time I checked, Grand Forks didn't have an NHL team, so I fail to see the connection between the NHL's woes and UND hockey. Stick to discussing something you may know about, like farm implements.
  12. Does anyone know what time the press conference is tomorrow? I'm going to be travelling for work and want to try to listen to it.
  13. The Fargo Forum is reporting that SDSU has nine games already scheduled for next year (with plans for 11 total), and that five are at home. This makes me wonder why NDSU, which has a much better football program, can't find games. Evidently Gene Taylor dropped the ball and hasn't been too active in his search for 2004 opponents.
  14. Sorry, I'm at work and was reading a little too quickly.
  15. In fairness to NDSU, they've always played a better schedule than UND. I think you should rethink the Crookston jokes, because although (from the sound of things) next year's schedule should be really impressive, that can't be said of the past several years.
  16. I totally agree. I had the opportunity to speak with President Baker several times, and he always seemed genuinely interested in what I had to say and always remembered me by name. On the opposite side, I spoke with President Kupchella once, about a month before I graduated in 2000. Chucky gave off a vibe of "why am I talking to you", and that being a student, I wasn't important enough to bother with. Likewise, when I went through the graduation ceremony, it was painfully clear that Chuck wanted to be anywhere but there. I think the UND community lost a great leader in Kendall Baker, and my early negative attitude towards President K. has only gotten worse.
  17. Any ideas when UND's schedule will be released? I'm anxious to see if/how much the schedule has improved over last year.
  18. Hey, I'm watching the game, but listening to the Sioux broadcast on the radio. Has anyone heard whether Fox Sports is cutting away to the Wild game at 9:30? Unfortunately, I would think contractually they'd have to. If anyone has heard, let me know. Thanks.
  19. Lawkota, I apologize if I missed earlier posts and subsequently misunderstood your point. I will say however, that the loss of Northern Colorado, NDSU and SDSU (and Morningside as far as basketball is concerned) tremendously weakens the NCC. After years of being one of the top Division II football conferences in the country, the new-look NCC pales in comparison. I for one commend NDSU for making the move it did, and hope UND will do the same in the very near future. It's bad enough that the Sioux play the likes of UM-Crookston and Newberry College in non-conference games already, and with only six conference opponents they'll need to schedule at least 4 non-conference per year in the future, while playing a mediocre conference schedule. Frankly, I don't think any of the potential new additions to the conference stack up to what has already left. I think UND fans need to get over this "NDSU is running away" garbage, and the school needs to seriously look at a similar move itself. Incidently, does anyone know when next year's football schedule is coming out? I'm anxious to see if UND upgrades it's schedule per the statements from the athletic department this season, although I can't imagine it could get much worse.
  20. Let's face it, the fact that you would even mention (with a straight face) the University of Mary as a potential new member for the NCC tells you just how far the conference is going down hill.
  21. While I enjoy your hockey observations PCM, you're way off base about NDSU being at fault for ending the Sioux-Bison rivalry. I'm a UND alum, but unlike so many Sioux fans (and Bison fans), I am not under the mistaken impression that everything the other school does is wrong. I for one give NDSU all the credit in the world for having the guts and vision to move up to Division I-AA. In 2001, NDSU scheduled Maine, who was at the time a Top 10 ranked team in DI-AA. Unfortunately, because of the tragedy on September 11, the game was cancelled, but nevertheless the Bison had scheduled a legitimate I-AA power. This year, NDSU beat Montana and gave I-AA Cal-Davis a great game. Meanwhile, the Sioux were content to beat up on local whipping boy UM-Crookston, a team that couldn't beat some of the better high school teams in ND and MN. NDSU consistently plays a non-conference schedule FAR superior to UND's. Granted, the Sioux went through the NCC undefeated, and totally deserve a top seed in the playoffs, while NDSU lost two conference games in addition to the loss to Cal Davis, and didn't deserve to be in the playoffs. Judging by the differences in scheduling and NDSU's move up, it seems to me that the Bison aspire to move onto bigger and better things. The NCC has long been the premier football conference in D-II, but is in serious danger of turning into a laughing stock considering some of the schools that may soon fill in for NDSU, Northern Colorado, South Dakota State and Morningside (who I realize was terrible itself). In conclusion, it seems clear that while UND is perfectly happy to be on the upside of such "rivalries" as UND-Crookston, it has no interest in being the underdog. NDSU doesn't immediately gain all of the scholarships for moving up to I-AA, and the Sioux should keep playing them until the day comes that NDSU has a clear-cut advantage, and UND simply can't compete. I for one would be thrilled to keep tuning into Bison-Sioux games, but have had it with Potato Bowl foes like Crookston. Here's hoping UND makes cancelling the rivalry a moot point by going I-AA themselves, before we see NDSCS on the schedule.
  22. I think that's Minnesota-Duluth. It should be UMD.
  23. I am listening to the Gopher-CC game, and have been listening to the Minnesota broadcast. Since I'm listening to it on the internet, when the broadcast breaks away to local commercials, the feed stays on the broadcasters while they're not on the air. During the second intermission one of the Hobey Baker voters was on discussing the final ten selections for the award, pointing out that the WCHA was well-represented with two CC players and Zach Parise as finalists. After he left, and the station went to commercials, one of the Gopher announcers (I don't know their names), started shooting his mouth off, saying, "I wanted to ask him how in the hell Parise is a finalist." This is a typical low-class move by the Minneapolis media, and I think a quick review of Parise's numbers provides the answer. He was fourth in the nation in scoring this year, with 61 points in 38 games, and did this as an 18 year-old freshman in the best conference in college hockey. In contrast, the Gophers' top scorer was Thomas Vanek, who had 53 points in 40 games. There's your answer guys. Being the fourth leading scorer in the country, with 1.61 points per game easily qualifies him as one of the top ten players in the game. I think it's safe to say that if the Gophers could have kept Parise in-state, the press there would fall all over themselves singing his praises.
