  1. Swipe card = horrible idea.

I couldn't make a couple of games so I gave those tickets away. I can't imagine the logistics of giving someone my card to use on Friday and then having to get it back so I can go Saturday. And what about folks that split costs and share seats (Friday/Saturday)?

Swipe cards will lower the number of people in the arena. People in the arena equals concessions revenues. You can figure out the correct answer from here.

    With you 110%.

  2. Yeah... I was wondering how he got tickets before me! ;)

Tim & Swyg this morning were on the issue for a little while, and took some calls. In a nutshell, there was talk about the people who chose their seats in the northwest corner because they didn't want to be by the students. (little kids, language, etc.) Now with the move, they'll be forced to sit by them, bringing another group that's unhappy about the situation. Anyway you slice it, somebody's going to be pissed.

    What will happen, though?

Will the students not show up for the games? Yeah right! :)

Will the season ticket holders not renew? Whatever, there's a waiting list! :)

Everyone's just going to have to crap their pants and sit in it.

On a lighter note, I've had two calls from people who sit near me at the games, asking if I saw the article in the paper this morning. They're giddy as schoolgirls! :)

  3. JWG - you bring up some outstanding points...if I may stretch them out a little...

I understand there's a profit to be made and $$ talks
One of the big problems I see with the "New Ralph" is it's desire to be a competitive entertainment venue. That's where the money-hunger is coming from. At the "Old Ralph", it was just a hockey arena. And it worked great.

And the students...afforded the opportunity to be right in the opposing goaltender's face while they're there.

One of the main problems was in the transition between the arenas. The students were in the perfect spot in the old building, but this was changed around in the transition. Why? As rumor has it, they wanted to give the students the "best seats", and put them at center ice. Well, I call bull$%!#. They were put there for the simple fact that $1000 donation seating was much easier to market than $5000 seating. Even in our hockey-crazy town, people have limits on what they'll spend for entertainment. Anyway, they did their homework in the marketing department, and did it well.

others of us are on a waiting list for tickets and can't go

We have a waiting list too, for the $1000 and lower seats. It backs up what I just mentioned. These aren't the people that go to the games to be seen... they go to watch hockey. Like a previous post said, those seats have the hardcore hockey fans, and they're full every weekend. It was a shame on the Friday night DU game to see all of the empty seats at center ice for the first 10 minutes of the game. These are the corpies. And waiting list or not, if you come to the office with 10000 bones, they'll find some corpie seats for you.

I'll shut up now... I just noticed I'm talking my way out of my seats! Please know that these are only my opinions, and are not to be taken as fact.

  4. No matter what decision is made, a certain group of people are going to be mad. I think moving the students to the south end is the best possible solution. But I realize it won't happen...at least not next season.

You're absolutely right. It won't happen. There are decades of season ticket holders on the south end. If you mess with their seats, you're committing donation suicide.

Some don't realize the fact that many of the people sitting behind the south-end goal are in the Directors/ Emerald/ Diamond giving clubs. When the seats were first picked in Bollingers' office, you weren't required to pick only in your "giving club area." You could choose from your area and anything area below, based on seniority.

Therefore, people who sat behind the net for the last 20 years are still sitting there.

    And they're not moving...

  5. He did not, so his posting privileges have been revoked for now.

It looks temporary to me...I'm sure he'll be back. I got a good chuckle out of him too, but it got old sometimes. Maybe in his time off, he'll take a typing course... :)

  6. I think I can provide an honest opinion of the Section 108 students, as I sit directly across the aisle from them. (107 seats 19-16) I have to say I have mixed feelings about moving them.

Foremost, as a parent of younger kids, I was one of those who ranted about all of the standing at the beginning. It was difficult for my children to see the game even if they also stood. Also, if we tried to stand, we caught hell from the others in our section. It was certainly a no win situation.

The students in 108, however, compromised with us over the past two seasons. For the most part, they stayed seated throughout the game...seemingly to their disadvantage with the students to their left. Although they expressed courtesy to us by staying seated, it was obvious that they weren't able to see either, because of those students who refused to extend common courtesy in return. This is what pisses me off. It's a perfect example of the bad apples spoiling the whole barrel.

Sitting next to the students hasn't been all that bad. The language? Yeah... it's rough some times, but my kids have learned worse from dear old dad. Derek Sheppard is a naughty word now. Standing up for a power play? You bet your ass. That's why we're there, to cheer on the Fighting Sioux.

Anyway, my kids (and I) will get a better view... and I think that's great; I wont BS you. I still think it sucks for those students who tried to make it work. I truly think they gave it an honest effort.

  7. As long as we're on the moderation subject, (which I believe is being done reasonably and logically) is it true that Siouxrock is banned? I noticed that his membership catagory is "banned." Fact or folly?

  8. i jsut play hoceky and i get good grades

yeah... If the Red River hockey players get bad grades, their parents will probably send Joel Arneson after the teachers, too. :D

  9. I am not a senior member of this site by any means... but what the hell is with the new threads about the bulldogs and gophers? I know POI sucks... but please! Must you torment us with your rival school banter? (headshake...headshake):(

  10. It's comforting to know that UND hates someone else as much as the Gophers. :)

My dislike of the gophers is more fun than evil... With the co-workers and all that... (not that I'll cheer for them in any way, shape, or form...)

My hatred for Moo-U runs deep. My wife was raised in a Bison alum/contributer/fan household. ;) Now she lives in a Sioux alum/contributer/fan household. :p Football season gets very, very, ugly. :(

Regardless.... I think the "comic book guy" has been snorting too much powdered bison horn again...

  11. I started this off as a poll, but there were so many possible answers. What do you all think happened to our beloved Sioux around the middle of the season? Around the "water cooler", I've heard everything from "too young" and "started too hot", to "no leader on the ice" and "someone was screwing around with the other guy's chick." (IMHO, all possible reasons)

    What are your thoughts?

  12. Yes, it was. But two wrongs never made anything right. Why lower ourselves to that level?

I see your stance, Dave K, but I don't consider my lack of cheering for the gophers "lowering to another level." In fact, my gopher loving associates would accuse me of "bandwagoning" if I made the attempt. I refuse to lower myself to that level.

Is U of M a great hockey team? yes

Will they represent the WCHA well? yes

Are they going to be the first team in about 30 years to repeat? yes

Do I hate the gophers? hell yes!

  13. Placing any blame whatsoever on Siembida is wrong.

Bottom line, they didn't score enough goals to win and that has nothing to do with goaltending.

You have excellent points, and I agree that no blame should be on goalies' shoulders. I think I made that clear in my ealier post. The point of the thread, however, is that Siembida shouldn't have been in there in the first place. As of this post nobody has voted "pull Jake."

The reason this team lost is a lack of motivation and teamwork. You can't win a game by playing hard only the 3rd period. Well at least not this time of the year.

  14. I have to admit that I was shocked when Blais pulled Jake and put Josh in. Jake looked pi$$ed! I wasn't happy with Josh when he let in a goal on five shots.

Thanks for starting this thread! I've been wanting to vent on this... and please, This is all only my "humble non-hockey coaching" opinion.......

I did a double take also. The whole BS about stirring up the bench by replacing the golie is a bunch of crap. I'm sure that the team was really fired up and confident and gung-ho when a cold Josh S. got thrown in the crease. Give me a friggin' break. It's the mind game crap that turned the team south through the second half of the year. All we've heard on the goalie situation is "we need Jake to give us a chance to win." Well, he did. It was the rest of the flat footed INDIVIDUALS (capitalized purposely) that didn't live up to their part of the deal. You're damn right Jake looked pissed. He should be. Complete bull$%!#.

Thanks, I'm better now....... (I apologize for taking profanity liberties, it's the only way I could truly express my thoughts)

  15. Who do you want to win the Frozen Four

I don't give a damn anymore. Even my wife says "those gophers are playing some DAMN SHARP HOCKEY." She's right... the rodents will probably pull off another one. I still don't have to like it. :p

Who will I cheer for? Read below... :(

  16. I can take shots at him now because according to him he is in his Ford truck right now bringing his good times to Minneapolis.

Yeah... making the "chicks" ride in the back... :D
