  1. agreed. come on these first three games are a frickin joke for a school that is hyping the move to DI. two divsion 2 schools and a division 3 school come on. you mean to tell me that they could find a bottom feeding DI school to come up here ala valpo like the NDSU when they kicked off their move to DI? wasn't northern colorado available? I can understand scheduling problems but to have your first three games be these three, what a joke. I'm a FSC member and won't be dishing out money for football season tickets anyime soon.

Of course everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but these types of posts make me not want to read this forum. Just flat-out jaded, myopic, pessimistic, uninformed negativity at it's finest.

Did somebody kick your dog recently?

  2. I CANNOT believe our 1st game as a FCS school is almost here. Can't wait to go to the game on Thursday. Bringing my two brothers with me as well. We are pumped!!!

My prediction: UND 37 TAMKU 23

I think Kingsville will do some damage with their athleticism. I just hope not too much damage.

    GO SIOUX!!!!

  3. Reading comprehension must not have been a requirement at UND. No where did I say you wouldn't get into a conference. Reread the post.

    Bison Dan,

You post like you have 7 posts total to your name. Not 710. In other words, you post like a troll. Get a life. Stay over at bisonville and trash UND there where it is encouraged. We don't want that garbage here. Bison fans with actual insightful information and talk are always welcome here. Your crap isn't.

I know, I know, don't feed the trolls........... :silly:

  4. Isn't that what you supose to do market your games? I don't see any hype or excitement for the Javs game.

Was there hype and excitement for ndsu's D2 and NAIA games during the transition? Marketing, yes. Hype and excitement? Not so sure. Certainly as much as there is for our Kingsville game.

I will give you credit thought. You did a great job polishing a turd for the Valpo game. :silly:

  5. This is pure speculation of course, but with Tim Tibesar being the D-coordinator at Kansas State and their 4 game non-conference schedule along with a bye week, I wonder if they would ever be an option in the future. Not sure how much water it would hold with Ron Prince and the AD, but maybe he would put in a good word for scheduling UND? Just thinking out loud.

  6. Well I will give it a shot....What are the chances of Northern Iowa coming up here to play since we went down there two years ago?

IMO, no chance in hell. All because we went down there in 2006 and took them down in their own house. There may have been a verbal agreement on hold until the final whistle blew that day in Cedar Falls. I'm guessing the agreement was off shortly thereafter.

  7. What a stupid and painful argument you guys are having. You have managed to turn a perfectly good thread into complete garbage. I had a hard time trying to find the last post that was actually about the 2009 schedules and beyond. Can we just get back on topic please?

  8. I thought the rule was that a player had to be out of high school for three years to qualify for the NFL draft. If he red-shirted, wouldn't his sophomore year make his third year out of HS? Hopefully he is gone next year. :silly:

For some reason, I tend to think that guys like Michael Crabtree don't redshirt. Maybe I am wrong.

EDIT: I digress, he did indeed redshirt according to this player bio. My bad. If that is the case, then he will indeed be gone, no question. 1st round pick.

  9. Just got my issue of ESPN the magazine in the mail and noticed a very interesting article on Texas Tech's WR, Michael Crabtree. Bruce Feldman seems to think that he may be the best college wideout ever.

I really wish that Maurice Clarett and Mike Williams would have won their lawsuits against the NFL a few years back. This kid sounds like a freak. :silly: Unfortunately, he will still be a junior when we play Texas Tech next season. Thank goodness Graham Harrell won't still be around.

All of this national notoriety for Texas Tech makes it that much more exciting for the game next year though. Should be a fun week.

  10. My best case scenario - no smack intended:

    1. Drive to Fargo to watch and cheer for Dale & SIU to win (already have my tickets).

    2. Drive to Carbondale to watch UND beat Dale & SIU.

May be wishful thinking on my part, but that is what I would like to see.

  11. Looks like the Grand Forks Herald has to cut at least 12 positions, so they are offering buyouts. Herald to offer voluntary buyouts

My vote is for Ryan Baaken. If I have to read one more article about his stupid turqouise car, chaperoning school dances, or church dinners, I think I'll puke. His "articles" should actually be called "lists," that's all it seems he can do. Get rid of him and give Brad S. a raise, at least he does something worthwhile. Sorry for the rant. Just my thoughts.

NO!! Don't get rid of Bakken. Then I won't get to read his once a year post on his blog.

Also, you are right about Schlossman. The guy is a blog-aholic and is just full of interesting info all the time. I wish the the Herald had someone to cover football as religiously as Schlossman covers hockey.

  12. Regardless of the ability of their football team, Valpo is a DI school while UWLax is a DIII school.

UW-Lacrosse? Isn't that the same DIII school that beat ndsu's "rival" 17-3 in Brookings by two touchdowns in 2006? Should be a tough game for UND then, huh?

  13. No need to fret. I just thought it was weird that they needed only had to pass 10 credits to play a year, I wasn't bashing the kid, I just thought that wasn't a very high goal.....

Get real. Do you really think that was his goal? I think his goal was to be eligible, in which case the appropriate credits required would be his objective.

  14. Having to pass 10 credits in a whole year? Hmm....I hope the athletes have a bigger goal than 10 credits in a whole year....

Ok, I think this horse has been beaten to death. We all know there is nobody to blame but Ryan himself. I think we can stop beating the kid up on a fan message board. Taking shots at physical talent and physical ability is one thing, and publicly reprimanding on this topic is another. I am sure he already feels horrible about this. Not to mention I am sure his family isn't particularly happy with all that has transpired. Sometimes I think a lot of us (myself included), forget the possibilities about who reads our posts.

The real litmus test in all of this is how Ryan responds to this. First and foremost, does he buckle down and try to make this better so that he can eventually graduate with a college degree and play his senior year of football? Or does he kick the dirt and pick up his things and go home? This is the true test for Ryan at this juncture. I hope this lesson learned in the next two years catapults him to better life down the road, no matter what he does in the future.

Good luck, Ryan. We know you will rebound.

  15. I have a good idea. Maybe the anti-logo and nickname protesters on campus should stop vandalizing school property with this crap. It is so painfully obvious what is going on here. This is their vehicle in getting the spotlight on the campus in order to have the name and logo removed. Despicable.

  16. Looking back at last years stats on UND's rushing defense we are not at the level we are acustom to.

Western Washington 194 yards, Nebraska Omaha 340 yards, South Dakota 260 yards and

Grand Valley 280 yards. Not good. We seem to be lacking the big nose guard we have had for the

past 15 years or so. Rocky Hager could never handle our nose guard. It proably got him fired. What's the word on the D line. How is this Bellmore kid from West Fargo? And of course the competion has just gotten better.

    Any one?

Very good points. Finding a great 2-gapping noseguard to keep the o-line from getting to the second level and off the linebackers is a big key to the success of the 3-4 scheme. It also helps to have all-american ILB's making plays as well(See Mooney, Tibesar, O'neel, and Anderson). When you have studs at both the ILB and noseguard positions, you see the best results. When you have just good, solid, serviceable players at both, you see the drop in rushing defense that UND's defense has seen recently. Tibesar had Callahan at nose, O'neel had Schultz, and Digger had Duchscher, Brennan and Wolff. I think you can see a relationship between the stats and having above-average players at the respective positions. We just haven't had all-american type players at either position the last couple years. It's not a knock against those players, they just aren't at the level that the before-mentioned group was at.

Having said that, finding a great Nose for your 3-4 scheme is not an easy thing to do. Having the physical size, strength and overall talent is one thing. Applying that with technique, natural football IQ, and buying into the system of "taking bullets" for your linebackers is another thing. Not a very "sexy" position based on the lack of stats you accumulate. It does sound as though Broc Bellmore will eventually be a good noseguard. The coaches seem to be high on him. Now we need an All-American inside linebacker to emerge and carry on the strong tradition of UND ILB's. Because of the beating that noseguards tend to take every game, I would like to see us go get a JUCO kid to complement Broc so we can rotate and have fresh legs. Maybe we have another freshman in the mix that will contribute this year.

  17. In a workplace harassment situation (which I believe that some liken this situation to . . . NCAA, some native americans), when someone is offended by a Action, a Joke, a Comment, a picture in the wall, etc, etc . . . you don't bring the entire office into a meeting and ask them to vote if the Action, the Joke, the Picture on the wall is offensive.

If the Action, the Joke, the Picture on the wall, etc . . . is offensive to one person while files a claim to the human resource organization, that's all it takes. If 9 out of 10 people don't think that the situation was harassment, but 1 person does, that's all it takes. In a workplace situation that's how it works, no questions aksed. Decisive action is taken to support the view of the 1 person . . . in a workpalce situation.

I believe that's how the NCAA and the Indian leader view this situation. For Ron His Horse, the logic of putting this situation to a vote does not apply. I believe that this is how the situation is viewed by some. I am not saying that I agree with this logic with regard to the nickname, but I liken their viewpoint to a workplace harassment sitation. To them the logic of . . . "let's see what the majority thinks", does not apply as it is offensive to some.

Unless people understand this viewpoint, right or wrong, I don't think that they understand where these groups are coming from. They do not view this as "Let's see what the majority thinks". Again, these are observations of the position that I believe these groups are coming from.

In any given workplace, a certain employee may harass someone and get away with it for a long time because said harassed person does NOT find it offensive and ultimately doesn't report it. However, that same situation may occur with the same harassing employee and a different employee who might find it offensive and would then report it.

Not saying that you believe in your example, but I can spin like a top as well.

  18. Wait a minute, you forgot about Ryan Schwenzfeier on Defense, like the FS position I'd say, oh whoops I guess Manke has some inside connections, very typical.

Who is Ryan Schwenzfeier? There is a Joel Schwenzfeier. At least get names right before you troll on here. Manke is UND's best DB, that much I have seen.

  19. Wow, do we have our hands full today. I will be cheering hard for the boys in green. I hope that we can overcome everything such as:

    1. Wisconsin home ice advantage - this place will be rockin', and they are playing the rallying underdog role.....a very dangerous combination in my opinion.

    2. Hopefully we don't have the NCAA trying to justify the Wisconsin selection into the tourney behind the scenes. What better way to do it then to have Wisconsin in the Frozen Four. The selection process would be vindicated.

    3. NCAA and the Sioux nickname issue - I have to believe the NCAA does not want UND on a national stage again in the Frozen Four.

Can you tell I really do not trust the NCAA? Call me jaded, but if we can overcome all of this and win, we will have definitely earned it.

    GO SIOUX!!!
