  1. Demler kid sounds like a great signing. #2 QB in the state of Wisconsin? Someone on the staff did a great job landing this kid. Hopefully we can hang on to him until signing day. Sounds like he will have quite a few offers out there by the end, maybe even from some smaller FBS schools.

    Great news!

  2. My thoughts in a nut shell:

    - DB's, O-line and QB hold the key to this season.

    - Secondary looked awful.

    - O-line needs to mature in a hurry.

    - Landry needs to be more assertive and take charge as a leader. I know it's only his 3rd start, but now is when we should see strides in that department.

    - We cannot afford any big injuries.

    - Our most talented kids are very young.

    - Defense overall needs to be better.

    - Offense overall needs to be more aggressive.

    Whew, that's quite a list. :D

We'll be fine. I see 6-5 right now. If this were 2011, I'd be REALLY concerned.

Can't wait to be at the Alerus on Saturday to watch us beat USD!

  3. I hate to pull the what if card but it pains me to think of how much better the team would be if you add in Chappell and Murray to the offense god those guys could fly.

Please don't do that to us. That's not very nice. :D

  4. This week's game against SFA will be even more tough than last week. Offense HAS to step up and be a little more aggressive this week. I understand easing the offense into things with Jake and the o-line being so young and new. This is week 3 now. Time to open the playbook and be a little more aggressive and diverse with play calling. No doubt, we can win this one, but we will have to play better all-around. Our defense will really be challenged this week with the passing game. The secondary will see plenty of passes.

Looking forward to it again this weekend.

  5. Slippery Slope Alert!

Please note the author admits this is dangerous use of associative logic.

TT beat UND by 25 in Lubbock.

UT beat TT by 10 in Austin.

Allowing for 3 point home field advantage (pretty standard) ...

TT beats UND by 22 on a neutral site.

UT beats TT by 7 on a neutral site.

    ...

UT beats UND by 29 on a neutral site?

This ends your Slippery Slope Alert.

Please return to normal speculations.

Ok.....ok.....I got one........but what if we played them at HOME?........huh?.......huh?....... ;)

  6. She blames UND for people calling her a Prairie N. well if the name goes so does the name calling, and joblessness, alcoholism and all the other problems on reservations?? Why is the Sioux nickname an excuse for everything. Whats next they are going to blame the Washington Redskins, Cleveland Indians, how about the Mandan Braves, Four Winds Warriors, Warroad Warriors blame their Indian nicknames for your problems.

Yes darell, exactly. Once the name is removed, the quality of life on the North Dakota reservations will see a dramatic increase. Name calling, unemployment and alcoholism, which exist because of things such as our nickname and logo, will be amazingly just go away.

    Doesn't that sound nice?

  7. Wow, reading bisonville.com reaction is hilarious right now.....Mertens cost them the game, season is over, etc. Jeez, relax. ndsu played admirably last night in a tough environment. Everyone is talking about how the game would have been different had Mertens not fumbled on the goalline. They also seem to forget that it would have been a different score had the ISU WR caught the wide open flea-flicker TD pass that he dropped.

I understand expectations are high and that they expect to win every game, but I think they are already going overboard over there. They have played one game so far and not one conference game. Lots of season left. Relax. You'll be fine.

  8. I will worship the pigskin when it is a frozen rubber disk. Until then. football is 2nd to hockey. Heck. Beat TT and you have moved up on my list!

Maybe to you, but not to me and others around here. Another hockey elitist attitude at UND, which unfortunately is too many. Football is my #1.....yes, even over hockey! I know, I'm crazy and ill. :) However, I also like to cheer on the rest of the athletic department (basketball, volleyball, baseball, etc) at UND as well.

Why even make a comment like that in a football thread?

  9. Here's my shot at it. That is a TOUGH list to compile. I left a lot of great players off the list. So many good players, and that's just from 1990-present! We have been very spoiled for the last 20 years.

  10. Bowenkamp had better physical abilities, but I just really liked the intangibles that Manke brought to the table. When he was healthy, he was extremely effective. Bowenkamp wasn't as consistent IMO, and didn't move around in the pocket and avoid the rush as well as Manke did. I don't believe Bowenkamp could have lead the Sioux to a win at UNI.

I agree. I would take Manke over Bowenkamp any day.

  11. I respectfully disagree. If Binns can show in pre-fall that he's one of the top three backs, let him play. We desperately need playmakers right now, and as we've seen the past two years, keeping our top backs in the program and eligible for more a couple of years is far from a guarantee, so using one of those years on a red-shirt season may turn out to be a waste (see Chappell as Exhibit A).

    Fair enough. I respect that.

But why go get a JUCO running back AND pull the redshirt on Binns? Seems like a waste of talent if you ask me. You can't give all 6 RB's carries. If you are gonna go spend a scholarship on a JUCO RB in July, he better be playing for you right away. Otherwise it's kind of a waste of a scholarship for a year or two. I'd rather redshirt Binns now, even if he could contribute some right away. I guess I will be the optimist and say that Chappell and Murray will be the exceptions in terms of grades. We will be loving it down the road when Binns is a 5th year senior and we are playoff eligible. :glare:

That's assuming, of course, he stays academically eligible.

By the way, this isn't just a RB specific problem. We have been very unlucky as fans that the last two times it has been our star RB's. It could happen at QB, OL, or DB too. Under your assumption, we shouldn't redshirt anyone because all of them potentially could have academic problems.

  12. I haven't heard anything good regarding Murray either. Sounds like we need to prepare for the worst with him this fall.

I believe that pursuing the JUCO tailback was a reaction to the Murray situation. Why would we go get another JUCO RB if we had Murray ready to go for the fall? We would have had plenty of depth with Murray, Solum, Battle, Sutton and Magstadt.

All signs point to Murray not playing this fall. :glare:

EDIT: By the way, it makes absolutely ZERO sense now to pull the redshirt on Binns. Put him on the scout team, let him mature physically for a year with the strength program, and concentrate on academics for this first year.

  13. It could have been a great post if only he'd left out the part where he said hockey doesn't matter because people in Montana don't follow it. We don't live in Montana, we live in North Dakota. D1 hockey and I-AA football are about equal in terms of publicity here in North Dakota. The fact that a particular sport's popularity is mostly confined to certain regions does not make that sport irrelevant, and to think that it does shows ignorance. Why can't Bison fans ever make a point without taking a potshot at the sport of hockey?

I would like to amend my post by saying "great post. EXCEPT for the part about hockey not meaning anything".

He made some good points about the other stuff though.

  14. We can both sit here and argue about who dominated the 80's (bison), who dominated the 90's (sioux), who has the premiere hockey (sioux), who has broken some ground with mens basketball (bison). BUT, truth is, neither one of us mean sh*t to the rest of the schools out there as far as schools from north dakota in DI. You guys can sit here and blow all you want about hockey, but it doesn't mean anything. Just talk to some montana fans about DI hockey, you will get laughed at. Truth is, both schools need to step up and prove themselves in what counts, FOOTBALL. Atleast at our level. Retire the Nickel if that is what it takes, make a new trophy, but we need to renew the rivalry, and 1 of us needs to do something. We sucked last year, probably will this year, but so do you. We got dominated by SDSU 2 years in a row, and you guys got your *ss handed to you by GVSU how many years in a row, maybe they kicked you out of DII? I'm sick of the arguing.

    great post.
