  1. There's a difference between a goalie making a mistake in a game that leads to a goal and a goalie choosing to deliberately disobey his coaches' orders about playing the puck too much.
  2. No, the result of Parise's mistake gave MSU a 3-2 lead. Without that, the Sioux might have been playing for the win instead of a tie. And Backes' goal would have tied the game rather than won it. What Parise did last season is irrelevant this season to this season. Nobody is blaming him for the game-winning goal by Backes. It wasn't Jordan's fault. There wasn't anything he could have done about it. However, we do know that Blais was on Parise last season for playing the puck too much. Hakstol has mentioned it being a problem this season. At what point should Jordan be held accountable for refusing to listen to his coaches?
  3. Rock 'n roll died with Elvis. You can quote me on that.

    MSUM vs. SIOUX

My recap of tonight's game has been posted on US College Hockey Online. I have to commend Troy Jutting for the approach he used after the Mavericks lost Friday.
  5. I heard that it was backchecking forwards.
  6. HEY! I THINK YOUR CAPS LOCK KEY IS STUCK!
  7. Well, LandCow fans should be illegal, but good luck getting that bill through the legislature.

You're right. McMahon was quite deep in the Sioux zone when he cleared the puck. I don't think he was intending to score. The only reason the puck came close to going in was because it was skittering and bouncing around.
  9. There's been so much new development around the Ralph, and with plans for more to come, I'd think that adding additional parking would be a logical step in the area's development. A parking ramp just south of the arena and connected to the Ralph would make the most sense to me. It could be used by UND students, faculty and staff during the week and by fans for weekend athletic events.

I wonder how many of those crazy Canadians blowing the roof off the Ralph during the World Juniors were students? I agree. I'm all for standing up to cheer when it's appropriate to do so. I'm all for organized, non-profane cheering. The louder it is in the Ralph, the more intimidating it becomes for the opposition. That's the way it should be. And who knows? Maybe if you get loud without worrying about who cares, others in your section will follow your lead. Pretty soon, the gas bags will be so outnumbered they'll look silly if they protest. That's the way it seems to work at football games. I've been to games at the Alerus where many people around me initially don't stand up to cheer when it's appropriate. But if I keep doing it, pretty soon, nearly everyone in the section begins to follow suit. Lead by example. It works.
  12. David Wisthoff gets my vote, too.
  13. I believe he was talking about the dark throwback jerseys that Team USA wore for at least two games. I wouldn't call them ugly, but I do think that they were very plain. They were also a different shade of blue than the breezers and socks, which made the uniforms look mismatched. Maybe that's what bothered Tim. Actually, in comparison to most other teams' uniforms, I thought Team USA's dark jerseys were rather plain. I really grew to like the Finns' dark jerseys. The Czech and German white jerseys were also among my favorites. The blue Swedish and red Belarus jerseys were also very nice.
  14. This article is also being discussed on USCHO. I'll post here what I posted there. Having watched 21 World Juniors games in 17 days and every team that played in the tournament at least once, I can say that without question, the Canadians were in a class by themselves. No other team in the tournament was anywhere close to their level of skill and talent. It would have taken an act of the hockey gods to deny Canada the title this year. The greatest difference between Russia, the Czech Republic and the USA was goaltending. USA beat Russia once and was in both games with the Czechs. Czech goalie Marek Schwarz was the difference. He simply outplayed Montoya in both games. Using 20/20 hindsight, it's easy to second-guess the decisions made by USA Hockey. Who would have guessed that the same goalie who played a large part in the US winning the gold last year would prove so unreliable this year? Yes, it would have been nice to have won the bronze. The truth is, Team USA wasn't that far away from the silver. And I'm sure there is room for improvement in coaching and the team selection process. But to say that the same people and system that brought the USA the gold last year are now fatally flawed and must be scrapped is rather ridiculous. It's a hysterical overreaction, in my opinion.
  15. From Suite 49 sports grill near beautiful Ralph Engelstad Arena, Tim Hennessy and Scott Swygman are the hosts with Sioux hockey coach Dave Hakstol. TH: The Team USA throwback jerseys for the World Junior Championships were the ugliest darn things I
  16. I didn't mean to specifically single you out for criticism, although it probably came off that way. I apologize for that. I was merely trying to point out that nobody has to look north of the border to find examples of classless fan behavior at the REA. We have our own home-grown variety right here in River City. My intent was to highlight the double standard that exists, not to accuse specific individuals here of doing something classless.
  17. Pre-historic is more like it.
  18. How does this differ from the mass chanting of "f__ the Gophers" done at Sioux games? I'm not excusing either type of behavior. I just find it interesting that Sioux fans recognize and condemn classless behavior by other teams' fans, but not their own.
  19. Jeff Panzer had a knee injury similar to Brady Murray's and was out for three weeks or so.
  20. As well you should. Someone got the Hockey Hall of Fame representative to bring the Stanley Cup up to the press box. The stats crew for the USA-Sweden game posed for pictures with it. My fingerprints are on that baby! I thought we should pour some Diet Coke in the top of the cup and drink out of it to celebrate tonight's victory. While we were gathered around the Stanley Cup, one of the media sportscasters came breezing by and did a double-take. He said it fell under the category of "things you don't expect to see." Using my sports binoculars, I could see Gretzky's silhouette in the suite diagonally from the press box. Now we need to get The Great One up to the press box to pose with us. Dean Blais passed through, too, although I didn't get a chance to chat with him. It was nice to see him back in Grand Forks.
  21. I've seen Gretzky hanging out with K-Dog. I don't know what all the fuss is about.
  22. Where are your priorities?
  23. The IIHF stats pages don't work with Mozilla, either.
  24. Really? Which one of the Festrunk brothers does she like best?
